AUSTIN — A Central Texas man got a 30-day jail sentence for contempt of court after criticizing a judge in a Caldwell County Courthouse men’s room.
State District Judge Jack Robison ordered 69-year-old Don Bandelman released after two days in jail after a state appeals court in Austin made inquiries into the matter.
The episode began June 23 when Robison granted temporary custody of Bandelman’s 13-year-old granddaughter to his son’s ex-wife, instead of his son. Court records reviewed by the Austin American-Statesman show Bandelman followed Robison into the men’s room and berated him as “a fool.” Robison then ordered Bandelman’s arrest.
Bandelman says he’ll complain to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. In 1991, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that insults aren’t sufficient for a contempt citation. (See Bandelman's photo, more on this story here.)
Robison hadn’t returned a Tuesday call from The Associated Press.

Is it even considered unethical for a judge to do that? Isn't that kind of expected of a judge?

Court was adjourned...
If you see a police officer taze an old women for calling him "kiddo" despite the officers demand that she call him "Officer", then later on you see him in the donut shop....don't you know that you are allowed to call him an asshole to his face?
You do realize what type of society this is supposed to be right? We do not live in some society where your rights are defined by your caste or profession.
Everyone has to follow the same set of laws and standards.

Really? I think you meant everyone is supposed to follow the same set of laws and stanards. But its never been that way in this country or any other. Some are just less blatant about it.

So the guy calls the judge a fool and he gets 30 days for "contempt? Are you kidding me?
This is why I NEVER give government more power over me. They will ultimately use it against me. I'd rather deal with the society abuse over governmental abuse.

Judges can go fuck themselves. I've never understood this ghey tradition this country has, to make people stand up when the judge enters the room. This isn't the military, they're not someone's commanding officer.

Blame the Brits :idk:
I'd be surprised if he doesn't get sanctioned for that... The judge may be king of his courtroom, but that doesn't make him royalty outside of it.

I was going to make a joke about whether or not said judge was wearing a white powdered wig. :D
If I were the judge, I'd be pissed too but that's just a blatant misuse of power.
