that could work, leave at midnight an dhopefully get there around noonish. We would just have to figure out where to meet up along 81. I think its faster for me taking 78 to 81 vs taking 95 south, any I bypass a shitload of tolls

Sixxxxer 02-09-2011 02:08 PM

That's easy, I get on 81 damn near at the Beginning of VA...Mile marker 300 IIRC.

Next exit after that would work...we could Fuel up together so we get on the same schedule and continue or trek :)

I hope to have a GPS mount by that time to...I find that to be a much nicer luxury on a bike trip that fumbling with maps and google direcions.

That works, the gps is def nice to have. I just followed fred in 09 and last year had hand written directions to tripps house off the interstate then followed them LOL

Its 7 hrs from my place in nj, how did you get 9 hrs from your place?

Mr Lefty 02-09-2011 04:14 PM

I may just ride TO the rally rather than make it the end of a journey like the last two... but damn it's been a blast to ride in with you fools... I may just make a run up to Michigan to do a quick oil change in Gas's garage and ride down with him and Capt again.

Maybe we all try and meet up somewhere and ride in together... like all meet in BFE WV or some shit... be a hell of a ride IMO.

dReWpY 02-09-2011 04:15 PM

5 hours from my place, i love being in TN

I used Google Maps, and From my Address to Link Gas Provided in the First page it actually says like 10 Hours and change...Im saying i can make it in 9 bc we will be going faster than the speed limit and thats how they factor the length of trips when you google them.

And Ebbs, I totally would ride out of my way to meet up with more people if that means we all rode in together...I think that would make the ride a bit more enjoyable for everyone.

I am still working on lodging. I emailed that place and called with no response yet.

Grandfather Mountain and some exploration of the BRP is a must. Damnit Ebbs, buy a GS already so we can go hit the gravel roads off the BRP.

Just fired a teller yesterday. Want a job in a bank?

the chi 02-24-2011 09:09 AM

If the commute wasnt such a bitch, I'd be all for it. I have teller experience, Teller Sup, CSM, and new accounts. You know you want me.

I frigging hate this job. Not because of the job, but because of my boss.

z06boy 02-24-2011 09:22 AM

http://www.diamondbacknc.com/db_loop_route.html

Some good roads around that area besides what's in that link.

The back way out of Old Fort over to Hwy 9 is fun. Hwy 9 itself has decent parts as well. There is plenty of other decent roads as well. The Chimney Rock/Lake Lure area is a nice. Main street is a tourist trap linking the two though...cool to see but the traffic can suck.

Not really, I still haven't had any contact from the people and I have submitted a request to rent the place out twice.

Sucks TWO went out of business or I would say lets just go there again. That was fun.

Isnt there a cabin or something in teh area we can use for a few days

dReWpY 03-26-2011 02:31 PM

My vote is to change it to tapocoa and have fun like the old days

the chi 03-31-2011 09:11 AM

So what are we doing with this now? I went ahead and requested the 22-25 off from work, probably head up the 21st, but where we going? Are we going to hit Tapoco? Or do we want to look for some other place since Lil Switz isnt being responsive?

Trip 03-31-2011 09:20 AM

I would like to go to Little Switzerland to see something new, but I am having issues with contact them and don't really have time to look. If anyone can take the lead on this, that would be great. I will be tied up with work til the middle of may.

the chi 03-31-2011 10:07 AM

Have we figured out how many folks are planning on going?

the chi 03-31-2011 10:15 AM

Mmmmk, just called, talked to a lady there, she's going to call me back. Currently they have a wedding booked for that weekend and the lodge/other rooms may not be available.

If thats the case, then we need to look elsewhere obviously. The Diamondback lodge has 8 rooms with a single full size bed in each, but depending on how many folks we have, that may not be enough room. I told her anywhere from 10-30 ppl.

the chi 03-31-2011 11:14 AM

Okay, scratch this place. They are booked that weekend. If we want to move it up a weekend they are wide open, but otherwise we need to find a new place to stay.

Thoughts?

Trip 03-31-2011 11:22 AM

weekend before is warrior race for me drewpy and ebbs

I am fine with Tapoco again and then people have other options as far as if they want to stay at the gap or fontana or in robbinsville.

Or we can look out in Stecoah where that campground is and maybe get a big cabin for a couple of or something.

the chi 03-31-2011 11:27 AM

And so? You can stay there at least Monday thru Wednesday, but when I told her mostly dates 22-25 for the group of us its booked...

Check this place out:

http://biglynnlodge.com/

I will call for rates if ya'll are interested. Non group rates are $105 and up, $27 per extra person over 2 I assume, but they have multiple beds in rooms so folks could share to reduce cost, breakfast and dinner are free at the lodge for those staying.

Rate Page: http://biglynnlodge.com/rates.html

ETA, this place is right near Swiss Lodge, so will the next one I post be as well...nm, the next closest one is a fancy B&B.

Trip 03-31-2011 11:35 AM

Nice, I like that one.

the chi 03-31-2011 11:39 AM

 This is hilarious. There are no other places in the area. The other 2 places arent worth posting, as one is the fancy expensive one and the other is too tiny to accomodate us. They only had 12 rooms, 2 of which are currently booked. Nice folks tho.

I'm thinking the Big Lynn might be the place to go, as they are the only ones who have the room to acomodate, plus, while it is a lil pricier, we do get free food for you hooligans. I'll call'em now.

Trip 03-31-2011 11:42 AM

See if they will block off some rooms for a few months so people can reserve. Thanks for doing this Rae.

the chi 03-31-2011 12:12 PM

There is this place too, tho its much further away from the original place (Lil Swiss).

http://www.the-skyline.com/rates.htm

Some reviews are good, some not so good.

Okay, talked to Vicki and Big Lynn Lodge, super nice, very accomodating. She will keep one section for us, if we fill that up she'll put them where she can find space. Told her she probably wanted to keep us together and away from general pop.

The rates on the rate sheet are negotiable, if we book at least 6-7 rooms we can expect a discount. Until we book at least that many rooms, she isn't certain what the exact cost would be, so go with what is on the link sheet I linked, and expect a reduction of that. Make sure you pay attention to how many beds are in a room, most of them have 2 full size beds in each, so you can share space with someone, but a few only have one, so if you plan on sharing dont pick that one.

The meals are definitely free, even when I told her about all you hosses,, she said they could handle it.

It's in a good location, an hour from Boone and Ashville, and less than 20 minutes to Grandfather Mountain, the caverns, the Lynnville Falls, and several other fun things to do.

Finally, she recommended we book no later than the month of July as they will start filling up for September reservations by then.

This place gets my vote. ETA: If you call, let them know you are with Twowheelfix, she'll take care of us.

Trip 03-31-2011 12:20 PM

Mine too, let's make it happen and just go with that one, voting not needed lol. You can start another thread about reservations and have contact info on the top if you want or I can do it later.

That price, $127 for 2 beds plus food is a good deal because that is what we paid last year without food.

the chi 03-31-2011 12:34 PM

And if you share a room with someone you're looking at 63.50 a night, so avg at 4 nights total would be $254 (not including tax I assume) and the only food you gotta pay for is lunches while we're out.

I'll take care of it Trip. Derf, dont forget to vote on how many you bringing.

Was talking to the Father in Law, was telling me Grandfather mountain is super cool, but the parking lot is a huuuuuuuuge bitch. As in crazy angles and if you miss the sharp turn in or out, you fall, and fall, and fall till you hit the bottom. Apparently it's difficult in cars as well. Just a heads up.

I'm still attending, gonna be at the warrior dash on the 17th, then I might shoot down to gulfport for work for a few days and head back up wedensday for the rally and home sunday or monday. I took off from the 16th thru the 26th

Wasn't their discussion about having it in Georgia instead? Maybe I dreamed that....

We will see about me, I might not be here

Gas Man 07-01-2011 04:16 AM

I'm still planning on this. Should be able to get away from work by then... HOPEFULLY! I think by the time september rolls around I'll need the break. These back to back 70+ hr work weeks are going to gray me out fast. 2 days off, twelve 24 hr shifts, repeat.

Gas Man 07-17-2011 08:07 PM

Planning the trip. Get to Front Royal, VA; ensuring I go thru WV. Should make it there in 1 day.

Then BRP all the way to Little Switzerland and at 13hrs (440 miles) I will plan on 2 days to make the trek via the BRP. Does this sound ok boys & girls?

Here's my plot
Google Map

Anybody want to join me? Capt? Derf? NE boys? Could meet me in VA.
