The kawi 250 is and always will be a POS bike until they really redo the frame. over 20 years, and they've still got the same cruiser frame in that bike.

IMO, not worth doing anything to that. even the EX500 frame is crap really. go with a GS500 setup, much easier and more sturdy.

I think that it's suppose to be fuel injected. But hold your horses. Supposedly DOT is giving Aprilia a fit right now.

Wow, Do you still have the Kawi? I have heard bad things about there weak bottom end but what the hell who cares! I bet that thing sounds Great! I believe the pipes wont be a large issue with the 250. There are a number of ways to run them. Airbox, Not a problem either. Look at that Kawi and you get the idea...

Frame? POS? news to me. If bracing is needed so be it. That bridge will be crossed with the TIG welder in hand. I'm not going to pay $14,000 for a bike untill it can run with my 1000 on the E-way and twistys not one or the other.

I think if a guy could get it down there would be plenty of people like us looking to buy a spare track bike that doesnt cost you a second note on the house.

the EX250 and 500's use steel frames that are heavy, but not very strong compared to the competition. the problem is pure and simple, the EX250 frame is simply a cheap frame. add to that its a royal bitch to work on em. I've done motor swaps in an EX250, and frankly, changing a motor is easier than changing the plugs to me. no amound of welding is gonna improve the 250 frame like a whole different frame will.

the EX500 isnt any better, until you spend lots of money on frame gusseting and some kind of better subframe to lighten it.

Take a look at the GS500's frames. this is the frame you'll want to go with for a rock solid base.

I wouldnt know about the bottom ends on them.

I love the Aprilia and it would be a cool street play bike, fun for track days, but for the money I would buy 2 Ninja 250's and race a buddy. If you have to be slow might as well have company and it would make for some tight racing fun!

With an unlimited budget ($15000) i want one of those 450 four stroke motocross to roadracer conversions that Roland Sands is building!

Hum... looks like a guy could cut off the rear sub on that gs500 and maybe find a removable bolt on replacement. I like it! Thanks for the info. Now to find bodywork that will fit. But race plastics could be a good way to go.

You know after taking a long look at the GS it could work! And I'm inclined to lean over to the Suzuki side anyway! That rear would have to go and the seat of course... Do you think the rake is a little out there? Maybe a different front and trees would help that. The bars would have to go but the tank looks pretty good!
