Congrats, man - nice looking ride

Looks good

Leave off the skid plates unless you are going to Mongolia or the Yukon, otherwise they will just increase heat

I just wanted to point out the need for a skid plate, granted this bike was just really abused and ridden well beyond what it was designed for, he was trying to keep up with a group of trail bikes on a rock packed trail when we hit some whoops. The bike survived the first few jumps but started bellowing smoke. Nobody could actually get up to him to let him know, he only stopped once his oil/check engine light came on. The bike was empty at that point. JB Weld and borrowed oil and he was able to ride it out.

Isn't that a skid plate though? Doesn't look like it helped much. The squarish one you posted earlier probably would have done better.

That looks like the OEM Yamaha plate, which is a piece of shit from what I understand.

Yes, but its attachment points are pretty crappy and all folded over when he hit, really the whole thing bent up about 1/2 inch in the rear and just knocked in the oil pan.

Its the upgraded OEM skid plate, and really it did pretty good considering the hit that it took. He was moving at 40+ mph and got at least 3 foot of air vertical and and over 10 foot of distance, and landed on a 6 inch tall rock. I'm surprised that the skid plate held up nearly as well as it did. The guy is lucky that it didnt pierce the skid plate.

I decided against the SWMotech and think I'm going with the AltRider, since it's connected to the frame.

here is another monster

That one looks good, but I don't understand the filter door. Why even have a door, when most normal people would take the whole thing off to change the filter. Otherwise oil is going to drip down inside that skidplate and stay there.

I think you could drop some paper towels down under the filter to prevent too much spillage. Or you could leave it and have it look like my skid plate, with a light coat of oil covered in dirt keeping the aluminum pan rust free

I like this one
