Helmet cameras...

Guys,
I am thinking about getting a camera (specifically this one: GoPro HD2 http://www.championcameras.com/en/go...torsports.html)

Does anyone have experience with helmet cams? Which helmet camera would you recommend? GoPro, Replay XD, Contour, Drift, ION Air? Has anyone tried more than one of them?

thnx for sharing your thoughts...

IMO GoPro 2 still has the best image quality of them all but Sony is coming out with a new camera this month that costs less than the GoPro and might have better image quality.

GoPro Hero2.

That is, if you're actually going to put it on your helmet.

go pro is in a class of its own, all the other cameras of this class are decent, but the go pro line has always down itself to new superior in quality and price

see my other thread for the 129$ hero naked. it might be today only.

the hero 2 is a better quality picture, but for the price, I bought it.

I really like the contour camera I have but I'd go wit the GoPro.

The GoPro is kind of the Apple MP3 of the helmet camera world. Such as, you can get other MP3 players that are as good or better than the Apple one but everything extra you want to get is geared towards Apple. The GoPro is the same way. Most accesories, more programs for it, and when shit does break just about every store now carries gopro stuff. I broke my Contour waterproof case (my fault, not equipments) in Turks and Caicos the first day down there. If I had a GoPro I cold have gotten another case.

Basically I like Contour much better than GoPro but until Contour gets a stronger foothold in the helmet camera market, I'd get a GoPro.

Not to change the subject, but what is better, helmet-mounted or bike-mounted?

I've done both and helmet mounted seems to give smoother vids. That is if your helmet isn't bouncing around your head.

I want to try chest mounted once I get a harness made.

I like my Contour. Easy to operate, great quality, and it's the right shape. It's so dumb looking riding around with a giant box sticking up over your head, and can't be good for aero.

I just plain don't like the GoPro camera format, so I went for the Replay XD1080. Since I've found that my head is rarely facing the same way for more than a few seconds while I ride, which tends to make viewers seasick, I've mounted the cameras on my bike instead.

I would certainly recommend the Replay, with one warning; battery life. They seem to get about an hour and 20 minutes to a charge and, since the battery is integrated, you can't swap it out. They do make cigarette lighter power adapters for them though.

I also like that they have billet aluminum mounts available, and have a couple of them, but they're quite pricey.

Here's an example of what I do with them:

GPS is a very cool feature.... that is why I am starting to like the Contour+ 2 more and more.

You can do this with a GPS cam (such as the new contour+) using this dashboard software or this one for example. You can choose all kinds of data overlay designs. If you want to display throttle and brake info as well on your screen, you'll need to have an extra datacable connected to your bike (or install a device such as the Starlane Athon on your bike)

I gathered this info so far... I never connected it myself but to have a result like the movies above I am thinking about ordering a Contour+2 at Champion Cameras (these guys have almost all cams for good prices) When I receive it I will connect it to my bike, I will keep you posted...
