Old ladies

that don't see over the dashboard also don't see you.

I did a quicker then expected lane change maneuver on the way back from launch, the lady moved right over into my lane. Luckily no one was to my right.

CasterTroy 10-16-2009 03:41 PM

you are invisible....so you must RIDE like that ALL the time

RACER X 10-16-2009 03:45 PM

and it ain't only gonna be old ladies.............it's EVERYBODY.

tached1000rr 10-16-2009 03:56 PM

Keep your head on a swivel and anticipate what each car will/could do....

the chi 10-16-2009 05:47 PM

Yep, welcome to everyday street riding. Always try and remember where the cars ahead and behind you are and always keep them in sight! Its the surprises that get us!

I've only been riding for about a year, and this has happened to me more times then I care to mention. Try not to ride side by side anyone if you can, and if you have to pass someone do it quickly. If someone is tentative about making a move GTFO.

It sucks to have to expect everyone to fuck up, but it's the only way to ride on the street. :bash:

This is what I tell everyone that considers riding because you ARE!

Particle Man 10-20-2009 06:17 PM

I had a lady in her 20's who could certainly see over the dashboard pull almost into my left side until I hit the horn and yelled (I figured she was going to do something stupid and widended my turn down her street already to compensate so I could throttle out of the situation if need be)... she then proceeded to yell at ME because apparently it was my fault for her being an idiot.

ALWAYS ASSUME PEOPLE DON'T SEE YOU because people are dumb. Period.

.

Would this also apply to Black men age 16-30? Because that is how a lot of them sit in their car.

By the way, who is that in your avatar? More pics please?

I always assume they can't see you and even if they do, they don't care that you are there. They see you are in their way and they are bigger than you so you will have to figure it out. I hate people.

OTB 11-11-2009 03:24 PM

When I'm not riding, I drive This about 25000 miles per year:
(9' tall, 8' wide, 18' long......BRIGHT WHITE WITH LIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME)
and I nearly get run down by clueless, blind, lazy cellphone texting asshats weekly, why the hell would they see YOU on a itty-bitty bike......ride
like you are invisible.....you are!!!!

My husband had that happen to him several times this summer, one time he reached out and kicked the cage. That's why I am still not comfortable driving in the city and am so happy to see the ring road open up, then I can go around the city out to the mountains!!!

I have a really bad habit of pounding on roofs, kicking in doors, and punching off mirrors. It's definitely an attention-getter, but it's also a great way to inspire road rage, which is a bad idea when tangling with something 10+ times your size.

Motorcyclist hit, killed in parking lot

Posted: Nov. 10, 2009

Raleigh, N.C. — A motorcyclist died Monday afternoon after he was knocked off his bike and run over in a west Raleigh shopping center parking lot, police said.

William Thomas McKay, 41, of Wake Forest, was driving his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle through the Ridgewood Shopping Center parking lot when he slowed to go over a speed bump and was hit from behind, according to a police report. McKay lost control of the motorcycle, and he fell off as the bike skidded on its side across the parking lot, the report states.

McKay was then run over by a 2000 BMW, which ran into a median in the parking lot before stopping, the report states. He was taken to WakeMed, where he died of his injuries.

Nancy McCall Bashford, 82, of 6321 Johnsdale Road in Raleigh, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Well, I was always afraid of unmarked vans. Especially the ones with the single porthole-style window on the sides. We called them child molester specials.

I don't know. I couldn't believe it myself. It was here in NC but not in my town so it hasn't been in the local news and this is all I've seen on it.

Woman gets 9 years for vehicular homicide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Nashville woman was sentenced to nine years in prison Friday for a crash in June 2008 that left a local Sunday school teacher dead.

Kimberly Kelton, 41, faced a maximum nine-year sentence for the crash that killed 62-year-old Perry Hamm.

Police said Kelton's Lexus struck Hamm's motorcycle on Nolensville Pike on the night of June 3, 2008.

Hamm, who worked at the Concord Grandview Baptist Church, was thrown from the bike and run over by another vehicle.

Kelton fled the scene and later crashed into a ditch.

When police arrived on the scene, she told officers the man trying to help her get her car out of the ditch was driving.

It was later learned that Kelton was drinking at her home and at Jonny's Sports Bar prior to the crash.

Kelton took the stand Friday and apologized.

Kelton's mom and Hamm’s wife and daughters also testified.
