hello. is there anybody in there?

What's up? What'd happened to this forum? Anyone around remember me?:rockwoot:

Trip 05-24-2014 03:14 AM

What's up smiley, some people are still around. Most people just stop by every now and then.

smileyman 05-24-2014 02:36 PM

I been away a while. Wasn't sure anyone would be left to member me. I have had 4 jobs the past 3 years. Had two more kids. Am currently bikeless but working towards another. It's been a wild ride...
What's up with the crew?

Rangerscott 05-24-2014 10:53 PM

Condoms! What are those?

smileyman 05-25-2014 12:04 AM

Yeah. Had Alex in '05. Thought she was unable...then in '11 we got suprised. and before I could get fixed we had a '13. Pretty much started life over. My daughter will be graduating about the time I turn 62.

Crickets is right, this place has been REALLY quiet for the past few months. Almost seems like some of us actually have decent weather to ride.

Papa_Complex 05-26-2014 11:18 AM

Still hanging around. It's one of the tabs I set up to open automatically when I open Firefox.

It's been quiet for quite a while now. Most forums go in cycles. Some are popular for a while, then fall out of favour. Cycleforums doesn't seem any more active since the Verticalscope take-over and mass exodus.

racedoll 05-26-2014 11:48 AM

I'm usually busy with traveling or if I am home, doing housework.

Archren 05-27-2014 11:31 AM

Yeah, I have it bookmarked and check at least once a day while I'm at work (I don't much get on the computer at home).

About the same here...

Particle Man 05-27-2014 03:13 PM

I get on when I can. Just been busy.

marko138 05-27-2014 04:22 PM

I swing though from time to time.

Gas Man 05-27-2014 09:52 PM

Yeah... sad... all too sad...

one day trip will close the doors forever and we will redirect to my site...

Nah, all I pay on this site is for the url and I am never getting rid of that. I host everything for nothing because I have other profitable websites that this site piggybacks on the hosting plan. I may eventually get rid of the hosting plan and run everything off a home server if I ever get that second gigabit fiber line run into my basement and set up a server for running some dedicated gaming servers and make a bit more money and run my websites off another box on it as well.

smileyman 05-28-2014 10:40 PM

I have to admit I don't have any time at all anymore. Something or someone to do for from alarm at 6 am to 9pm. Not much energy for anything else. No time for riding, shooting, camping, swimming, or anything fun. It's a mid life nightmare...

Turbo Ghost 05-29-2014 08:06 AM

Same here. At work is the best time for me to get on here but, lately the jobs I've been running have been little bitches and require heavy babysitting so, I don't get to sit down and relax.
At home I'm either prepping for my trip or on the weekends I'm filming so, my interwebs time is highly limited!

Papa_Complex 05-29-2014 09:19 AM

End of semester here, so I'm at my desk more often than usual. No profs around and staff are starting to take time off.

Particle Man 05-30-2014 11:36 AM

I've been cleared to ride finally - now to get the bike inspected and registered. Time....

dReWpY 05-30-2014 01:23 PM

In the fuel or oil? If it's in the fuel, just run it. You'll be down on power but, it won't hurt anything. If it starts knocking or pinging then add some premium fuel to bring up the octane until it's all out.

Checking in - I swing through once every week or so.

Work, family (2.5 year old twins) and endurance racing are taking up most of my time these days. :willy:

Congrats! I didn't know you guys popped out another one!

I'm a lurker these days. I think FB pretty much redirected traffic from the forums. Plus the majority of us have been riding for a while and don't really have any bike questions.

Papa_Complex 06-13-2014 11:05 AM

It isn't really about bike related questions though. The least active sub-forums on motorcycle forums seem to be the ones related to motorcycles

HokieDNA01 06-13-2014 08:29 PM

Haven't been on in a good while but keep up with many on FB. Got a new bike so it's like I'm a noob again (for the 4th) time. Got 3 bikes in the garage so according to most, that also makes me certifiably insane. LOL

I don't! I don't commute on the bike bc it would be a PITA and the days I am off I don't make the time. But Rae is coming to visit, so I am going to get my bikes ready!

I miss the banter on the forums! Our banter on CF was such a big time waster but so much fun. I met a lot of great people on the site and quite a few have stayed with me in the past.

Tmall 06-14-2014 10:41 AM

I left because a lot of you are pretty fucking annoying.

:)

Flexin 06-14-2014 11:28 PM

I stop in and look around every now and then. I have been busy with work, wife/kids, my site and looking for one of my dream vehicles. Spent two months looking for my Jeep. I was getting tired of the search and was almost to the point of looking for a bike but I didn't do it. My wife and kids can enjoy the Jeep with me. The bike is a solo thing.

I still want to get back on two wheels. It just doesn't look like it will happen this year.

fasternyou929 06-15-2014 02:11 PM

It's quiet here because when there was a flux of new members, some existing members went out of their way to make it clear some of the newbs weren't welcome. To make a few of the "originals" happy, this site sacrificed a large number of new members. Repeat that cycle a few times and when the originals slow their posting, the site content goes with them.

Both CF and TWF are pretty clear indicators that once people are turned-off to a site, they don't go back.

It doesn't help that trip is a nozzle, either. :)

Love the Jeep James!

Phenix_Rider 06-20-2014 07:59 AM

I got married, and you wouldn't believe how much time I spend traveling for work. My bike has needed a chain since the middle of last season. Finally got the chain in and my wife is telling me to go for a ride - do anything except work myself into the ground.

So - I just got an email saying that the Indy GP is August 10 and my bike needs a good long run. Search reveals no recent Indy threads. Any interest?

There is a shop that sells them about 25 minutes from my house. I don't see that bringing me the excitement of my R6 or that of my Jeep.

I miss my bike but I'm loving the Jeep. Feeling the wind through my eyebrows is an amazing thing.

I put some new rubber on it last weekend. I put on some Goodyear Duratrac's.

I was running Hankook Dyna Pro ATMs on my last Grand Cherokee. I loved them. I'll put them on my new grand when the current tires wear out.

How many miles do you have on them so far?

That's what I had on my pickup before the duratracks, loved them, but wanted something a bit more aggressive.
I got 49k out of them and they weren't completely gone, but hunting season started so I needed better rubber.

I have almost 8k on them. Went about 7k before rotating them and they measured out at 60% on the rears and 80% on the fronts. So if I rotated more regularly, figure 70% across the board.
That's looking like 30k on the high end. I was hoping for 40k, but we'll see.

Most of those miles are either hunting/off road/winter driving, or pulling my 10k+ 5th wheel, so not easy miles.

Love the traction, and I'll run them again, but I'm looking for a second set of wheels and tires to run in the summer pulling the camper.

I loved it. I put 100k miles on it in the 6.5 years I owned it. Replaced a water pump at 70k and tires/brakes. She treated well.

By the way Jeep grand Cherokees rock, my 2001 limited 4X4 4.7 bought new has 185,000 miles. Sort of hoping some thing major will fail, so I can purchase a new one.

Hell, I'd be happy as a clam if I never leave... seriously, I'm loving this job. Yes, it's fast-paced, and I may change my tune after 3 years of two or more TDY's per month, but it beats the hell out of being just a desk jockey (I'm still a desk jockey when we're in the rear, but on mission at least I get to do decon).

That said, if you go the survey to ops to 1SG route, you can make it all the way to E8 in the unit. But you have to be a 74D to do it. Which technically attending CSSC and the NCOES is enough to reclass now, but if you're not looking to reclass, then yeah, the highest you can go is E7, and that's only if you get hired as the Ops NCOIC or Logistics NCO (I'm considering going the Ops route myself, but I gotta fulfill my initial 3 years first).

All that said, the level of training and experience you get in a CST is fucking unrivaled. You get to actually do real-world missions that make a difference in the community. You get to build connections with the civilian emergency responders, and, should you choose to do emergency management or HAZMAT response once you get out, you're top of the list of the hiring pool for state emergency management agencies or HAZMAT teams.

Papa_Complex 11-03-2014 01:57 PM

Finally did a studio shoot but it was as the "armourer", rather than as the photographer. I found out that models and photographers don't know spit about how weapons are actually used and, despite being told the proper method of holding and using a bladed weapon or bow, they will default to improbably dramatic contortions to make the shot more interesting (hint: a rapier is a stabbing sword, so holding it with two hands in an overhead cutting grip isn't the way that it would be used).

Hopefully I'll have a few shots to share in my "Zombie Apocalypse Store" thread later this week.
