Open Dirt Riding Areas In Texas
Does anyone know if there are any open dirt riding areas in Texas? We're looking for someplace that we can take the trailer and our Quad, park and just go out and ride in the wilderness.
As a kid, we used to do that all the time in So. California but that was long before the Green Stickie thing and the desert tortoise concerns. It can be a primative without showers, toilets and water etc. We're just looking for some open land with hills or woods and relaxation. |
i may be wrong, but i've heard a rumor going around that texas is approximately as big as a medium sized country... and you're having trouble finding places to go?

Mike, the closest to Austin is http://www.hiddenfallsadventurepark.com/ It's Boulder Creek - renamed. Located on 1431 close to Marble Falls.

Thanks Moira and Lucky. Hidden Ranch looks like a good spot to try. As many times as I've ridden out that way I don't recall seeing a sign or posting for that RV Park.

There's the sand dunes near midland/odessa.

The courses are marked for difficulty as well. They have about 19 full trailer hook ups and the prices are reasonable, not much more than a regular camp ground. We took the truck on the trails and, at one point, got a little lost and got onto one of the ATV trails by accident. I thought I was in an extreme 4x4 event for a minute but the jake brake setup on the new Dodges works great going down the hills. It was fun and the first time Beth had ever been 4 wheeling in anthing besides the Chicago snow. There was a pretty big fire on the next hill as we were leaving. The house was in danger and the Fire Dept had not arrived yet as we were leaving. We'll be heading out there with the quad in the near future http://lh5.ggpht.com/_l6p2MfMG5BU/Sd...0/PICT1061.JPG |
Hey Mike,
How extreme is the 4X4 stuff...do you think it might be suitable for m/c observed trials? |

Thanks...might have to look into that.

Stefan,
There's stuff there as hairy as you'd want to do. It's not all laid out compactly like CP or Wes' place, but there's plenty of good terrain to work w/. |
Yeah Chris, I found out that some of the guys have been out there scouting for a place for the Austin round of the Texas Series when it was called Boulder Creek. Consensus seems to be that it's similar to CP with some bigger stuff, has potential, but not easily accessible or requires clearing.
