Big goofy bastard! |
That comes from wanting SOOOO BADLY to get your knee on the ground so your friend with the camera will suck you off...:idk:
|
Uggggh....mohawk on a icon helmet, trying hard to drag on a public road with sparkie shit on your knee...I'm surprised you're not on a gixxer.
Take it to the track! |
Nah, its perfectly non squidly! He's on a buell DUDE! Those things Rock! Fuck Ya!
You can do what ever you want where ever you want if your of the right crowd. :idk: |
HAHA I was just busting balls and messing around about the bike not being a GIXXER. All I'm saying is, if your looking to improve and ride the bike the way its meant to be ridden (wait, it's a buell...Nevermind..........HAHA J/K again!) there's no better place than a track.
"You can do what ever you want where ever you want if your of the right crowd. :idk:" Not sure what you meant by that. :idk: |
I mean its a Biker gang! They do what the fuck they want right? No holds barred kinda biker gang. like they are on T.V.
|
Speaking of motorcycle gangs.
I encountered crazy traffic on my way to work this morning, come to find out it was because of a shooting. They think it "might" be gang related. Quote:

Barker is actually a VERY good rider. On track or off.

This is the kinda shit we need on this forum. More Buell pictures. Nice job.

Love the Buell pics.

I know you don't have to hang off. The amount of pressure that guy has on his suspension by staying directly on the center line of his bike is too much for me. Sometimes just riding into work, I won't hang off and I just feel so vulnerable in a corner because I stayed directly on top of it. Maybe it's because I'm use to hanging off a bit and it feels 10x better than not.

I hang off a lot... that way as I get faster and faster I won't need to change my positioning at all... it will just be correct already. For example: http://www.owenssportsphotos.com/Pho...81001d142l.jpg |
Yep, I don't feel comfortable at all unless I shift my weight. Now on the street that usually means just my upper body, with my ass moving a couple inches at most.
|
Ive reached the point where if I dont move, I feel like Im going to wreck...i cant take even a slight turn without at least shifting my weight, but for more agressive rides I tend to move my lower half more, and slide my body round the tank versus a full hang off with upper too.
|

I have yet to ever drag a knee on a public road despite alot of hi rpm highway miles over the last 13-14 years. I really dont feel its necessary. |

Well, i have been accused of having ADD fairly often...actually, ask Ebbs, he can confirm. I may be just a LITTLE hyper active, what can I say, I'm easily bored. While I keep a line on the interstate (unlike tripage) I am all over the bike, moving and shifting, etc even in a straight line. I also find the more I play around on and with my bike, the more comfortable I am and the better my confidence, both on and off the track. When it comes to agressive street riding, I'm with you, I dont hang off nearly as much and have never drug on the street. I could have at the gap, but no kneepucks and I dont see the need either. :idk: |

I rode the same red Firebolt in the pictures for about 150 miles on Saturday. Because of my height and leg length, I found that I couldn't hang off of it as well as the Uly. I was too bunched up. It didn't really matter, though, because I am able to shift just upper body weight and obtain 90% of the same effect. Part of the advantage of a 49" chest. |
49 inch chest? Do you bench press the Uly when your bored?!?!?
|

My kids call me "The Nogre". That's the problem with sport bikes. They don't make them for galoots. Unless you are 5'8" and built like a woman, you can't get wadded up enough to get comfortable. |

I know the feeling, I'm 6'3" 225 with a '38 waist and a '48 chest. I look a 'little' odd when I'm on my GSXR! |
shit I thought I was on the larger side... 6'3 190... then I met Piz in Indy... yeah dude blocks out the sun
|
Well, lessee. At 6 ft 160 lbs I would be the giant of the MotoGP circuit...apparently at a Buell get together I would be known as "slim"...
|

I don't ride a buell! |

At 6' 235lbs 49" Chest 37" waist, I look like a monkey humping a foot ball on most sport bikes. I looked down right hilarious on the Firebolt. It looked like a red wheeled suppository. The problem is that nearly ALL sportbikes are built with the same rider model in mind. It makes it really difficult to find a "true" sportbike that fits. I actually rode a bike over the weekend that was TOO big. Anyone ridden the KTM 950 Super Enduro R? Holy Crap! It was like riding a bus. |
I suppose it is lucky most bikes come stock with springs for my weight...It is also lucky I am not a big lug cause I know at least 3 guys who wouldnt still be breathing and I most likley would be in one of the capitol punishment threads...
And I do hope to own a Firebolt XB12R before the end of th eyear... |

I want one before they are no more. My bike is paid off in January. I have no way possible to afford a BMWK1300S...Ok call it an impulse buy.

You can pick up a new one in the mid 8 range. Try both the 9R as well as the 12R. If you are coming from a 600, the power band on the 9 will be much more familiar. The 12 has some REALLY nice grunt though. If they were more comfortable, I would have bought one. |

He actually wears it to increase visibility. He's not really even the mohawk "type". He smacked his new helmet at the Nashville track day. |
ya know... I had actually looked at getting one of those... it draws attention... and on a motorcycle... attention is NEVER a bad thing... if it is... your doing something you shouldn't be
|
I'm 6'5 175...I can Sit on my Rear seat and still hold the Handlebars when I'm full tuck.
They Call me the Giraffe...I almost have to duck when we ride under overpasses...LMAO |

Rae actually has normal lenght legs... and a midget body... (a very nice body though ) and she can get her whole ass off... much to the enjoyment of those of us riding behind her  |
I surely wouldnt Complain.
|
Being 6'3" is all the more reason to hang off less, not more. Getting your ass off that much isn't the worst thing in the world and I'm not ragging on anybody. I did it when I wanted to drag knee for the first time and did it for a while after I started dragging (that's why I asked if he just started). Then I realized I had way more lean angle left and stopped hanging off so much and started leaning the bike more. Plus, it makes for much easier switch-back...ing. Hanging way off like that at full lean and then trying to get the bike leaning to the other side is way too much work than you have to do. Lining up your as crack on the outer edge of the seat is a solid base to work with.
|
naw I was just saying that with his long legs for him... it's hang'n off that much to get his ass off... cause his legs are normal length...
but i'm out of my element... i know jack shit about hang'n off and drag'n a knee... as I haven't done it... Tried at the gap... hung way the fuck of... or I felt like I was... had my ass completely off the seat... tried to kiss the mirror... but never got even a scrape... probably cause the bike was at 80* |
I use to be scared I was gonna drag a knee in jeans. I bought a 1-piece and tried dragging. I quickly realized I was no way fucking close to dragging my jeans. I dragged my first day with some tips from a buddy, but I was hanging off like mad.
|
I think I'd have an easier time on a track... I was really focused on the next corner... and only really tried at the GAP and fuck... corners are so fucking close
|

The pegs are too low for me to get off any more than that. |
The more you hang off, the more contact patch you have in reserve. If you need to tap into that little bit more lean angle, you just lean more. If you are already at maximum contact patch, it's too hard to hang off more mid turn.
I tend to reserve deep hang-offs to sweepers and tight hairpins where flicking back and forth isn't required. |

:idk: I've seen some ugly crash result from getting too far off the bike when street riding. IMHO it's harder to react to emergency situations when you are that far off the bike. Of course,I don't try to do track days on public roads myself... |

Careful. Wouldn't want you to tarnish your halo. |

As for the hanging off I have a 34 in inseam so my knee hits pretty easily with just a half cheek. Like everyone else i leaned off too much at first, then as my speed on track improved there was little time to lean off that much in between chicanes and some corners. Perhaps i just got lazy... |
Quote:
Ah,ah,ah now,I listen to "squid this and squid that" over lack of proscribed gear and stunting. I've always considered knee dragging on public roads to be similar behavior... |
Quote:
Draggin' a knee at "hero's corner" isn't necessarily track behavior. I only drug a couple of other places during the day. It's hard not to in North Georgia. I ALWAYS wore the proper gear and never once did a stoppie or a wheelie. |

Nothing to see here folks, move along, move along! I know "heroes corner", that turn NEVER ends! I love coming up from Dahlonega to TWO on 19. Hauling the bikes up there in my truck I see every point on the digital compass! |
Quote:
The locals named it "Gixxer Corner" in honor of one of their friends who blew the turn completely and disintegrated. They were pulling Gixxer parts out of the trees for weeks. |

I am also an advocate for gear self determination. In addition, I work diligently to convince riders that they should wear the maximum amount of protective clothing all the time. Stunting in a closed course environment doesn't require the same degree of protective gear that a track day or spirited day ride would. Not to mention race leathers and hard armor would restrict movement. |

Last weekend, one of my buddies who rides an old "tuber" Buell had a really weird front brake failure coming hot into a turn. He blew the turn and smacked the mountain.
He was wearing full leathers. He suffered a broken collar bone and 8 broken ribs. No road rash. Although it was painful, it could have been much worse. I have no doubt that the gear made all the difference. |
