2nd Oil Change for the Bus

I know how oil threads can get, but this one may not be too bad..

When I changed the oil around 600 miles I used Suzuki Dino oil and a Suzuki filter from the dealer and spent some retarded amount like 50$.. I'd like to use Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 as soon as possible.. Just wondering after 1k miles if that would be a problem.. If the rings are seated by now, I really don't see why it would, but I hear a lot of people not switching to synthetic until a few thousand miles.. What's your take on this?

i waited a few thousand miles before changing it out

If you don't have a reason to change the oil right now why should you? Wait until its time for an oil change do the switch then.

Agree with both above

I waited until my 3rd change (initial change and then 2 regular changes) before switching over. Just my tradition.

Gas Man 06-11-2011 01:52 PM

I did about the same. I did my first at 1k, another at 4k, then I think at 7k I switched. I did another full syn change at 10k just for cause of ensuring a proper flush of the dino oil.

This year I plan on just doing 5k changes of motor and primary. Not the trans, that I will do once a year.

Run Rotella Triple Protection 15w-40 for awhile then switch to the T6.

Switch it. Fuck it. Seriously. It won't hurt anything.

My bike came with the HD synth in it from the factory. That's what I put back in it.
Now it's running AMSOIL synth...

Notice an improvement with the switch?

Haven't put many miles on yet... one trip to town and back. I had 3 qts of HD stuff left this spring so started with that.

Well let us know... I always enjoy hearing about the switch.

I'll stick with my suggestion.

Walmart: Rotella TP 15w-40 @ $14
Advanceauto: Purolator gold filter @ $7.

You can't lose.

You'll have to shop around on the T6. I've seen it range from $20 (walmart) to $27 (auto parts stores). I got real luckly and got a shit load for $15 a pop.

Find your cross reference. *edit* Suzuki pulls a dick move on their filter threads so no cross reference for you.

Honesty i cant tell tye difference between dino and syn. People that say they feel a difference are usually full of it or its a mental thing. I doubt my vfr gained more than 1hp switching.

Our engines arent that tight if theyre using 40 oil.

The only place I noticed was in shifting.
