Shark Review!!!

I went for a 100 miles today wearing the RSF helmet today and I must say that it is very quiet, light and comfortable. I've owned all of the major brands of helmets and the shield mechanism is the best hands down! Even Scorpion's set-up can't compete! Because the ratchet is "spring loaded" when you push the button the shield pops off on it's own. The load also causes the shield to "suck in" when the shield is closed for an almost perfect seal. Aerodynamics are outstanding! At 150 mph,I could turn my head any direction I chose without lift or buffeting. The coolest aero-trait was it didn't matter what angle my head was at,the helmet always felt "neutral"

The negatives are as follows; venting could be better (but noise would suffer) and there are NO provisions for speakers which made installing my radar detector system a fucking pain! A weird complaint I have is the placement of the chin strap retaining snap. It's right on my Adam's apple and sucks to snap.

Exterior paint and interior padding is what you would expect from a premium helmet. Excellent! I anticipate the arrival of my S800 and RSX models on Thursday!

Trip 09-07-2008 11:49 PM

I been really considering my next lid of a RSX. This just cements my reasons for considering Shark. I have heard great things about these lids.

Yea,the only other thing I forgot to mention is that the chin and neck curtain are tight! Putting this helmet on is like being born again! I suppose this is one of the reasons why they are so quiet... Oh and I tried it out last night and fogging is non-existent,zero,nada....

fatburg 09-08-2008 06:54 AM

thanks for the review. I'm going to look at the Sharks tomorrow night

Rider 09-08-2008 08:23 AM

RSF? I haven't heard of that model. Where does that fall in their model line? Got a pic of the graphics?

From a few minutes looking around it looks like the RSF is an older model maybe. I found them on google but not on shark's site, unless they were mis-labeled.

Yep! The RSF is the old top of the line Shark helmet. That's why I got it for under $100 shipped!

Nice, whatd they originally retail for? If I hadnt just bought my x11 a few months ago Id be searching for one right now.

BobTheBiker 09-09-2008 12:48 AM

not a bad lid honestly. I"ll gladly rock one of those for the sake of silence on the rides.

I believe about $400-500...about the same as the RFR does now. I think the new models address the venting issue and possibly make it easier to install speakers,I hope. We'll see when I get my RSX,I'll let you know.

fnfalman 09-09-2008 08:19 AM

I tried out a Shark RSR before and I was highly impressed with the features and quality. Alas, it's built for people with long oval head instead of round head.

Gas Man 09-09-2008 02:08 PM

I have been telling you guys this for like 3 years now!! Shark helmets rock!

Rider 09-18-2008 10:14 AM

So Fatburg, How is that Foggy Legend working out for you? Comfortable and quiet? I love that helmet in the red and blue.

Psst..... shark ftw! Damn! Cliff's Bmw had a large RSR2 in silver for $210 bnib! Let me know,I have Shark deals on lock down!!! I got my Shark older model for $60 with the the clear and the blue shields. No bs either!

Mr Lefty 09-20-2008 07:13 PM

I REALLY like the RSR2's... not sure what size I need though... I had a L Arai Profile... but got M cheek pads...

I'd like the black legend...

i just got the red foggy legend, it's waayy cheaper then the black. I love it, got to ride today, venting is awesome. didn't need to have my shield up the whole time. It's a little louder then my old HJC but it had no venting at all, no need for earplugs for sure.

It is ridiculously light. Fog free shield held up great on the cool night this evening.

let's see the red was $460, the black was like $585. I originally ordered the black one and they shipped the wrong one, i actually like the red better.

my camera is in KC right now. i'll try to take a picture with my phone and send it to my flickr

Mr Lefty 09-20-2008 09:46 PM

it's cool... I REALLY like that helmet... think that's gonna be my next one...

this one fits me like a glove. I had a guy tell me which shark to get between the rsr2 and the rsx, slightly different shape.

Mr Lefty 09-20-2008 09:55 PM

well I think I'll get it anyways... maybe try to find a shark dealer in Miss or something

My guy has either color for $450 shipped. I'm trying for a black legend in large for $350 from a guy I've dealt with a couple times and actually met in Daytona. Cross fingers!!!

Amber Lamps 09-20-2008 10:03 PM

Helmet Harbor shows both colors $566... it's funny but they put a premium on the DuHammel but I see that lid for $350-400 all over the place.

I thought the same thing, the place I went had both, tried on the Scorpion right after the Shark, wouldn't even consider the Scorpion after having the Shark on

Totally :iagree:! It's like driving a Cobalt after a Corvette. Shit, you'd be better off with a HJC Symax2 if you have to have the flip down shield plus it's a modular.

Shark Review!!!

Shark Review!!!

I went for a 100 miles today wearing a great white shark strapped to my back today and I must say that it is very mean, heavy and viscious. I've owned all of the major species of sharks and the teeth mechanism is the sharpest hands down! Even a mako's can't compete! Because it has two sets of teeth when it bites you your arm pops off on it's own. The load also causes the flesh to "suck in" when the jaws are closed for an almost perfect seal, ripping your arm directly out of socket. Hydrodynamics are outstanding! At 150 mph,I could turn my head any direction I chose and it would attempt to decapitate me and swallow my skull. The coolest aero-trait was it didn't matter what angle it's fins were at,the shark still felt "heavy as fuck."

The negatives are as follows; smell could be better (but intimidating effect would suffer) and there are NO provisions for being out of water which made having to stop to pour bottled water on it every 10 miles or so a fucking pain! A weird complaint I have is the placement of the eyes . They're always looking right at my Adam's apple and they haunt my dreams.

Exterior color and interior flesh is what you would expect from a king of the ocean. Excellent! I anticipate the arrival of my blood transfusions and prosthetic limbs on thursday!

hahaha. I've picked up a baby horse before and I can easily pick up fatass friends in the 300 pound neighborhood but a shark might take some serious roidage.

I may buy this lid...$200 shipped.

PiZdETS 09-21-2008 06:35 PM

That actually looks pretty baller. I can't find shark helmets at my local Honda/kawasaki/suzuki dealer or the vulcan/yamaha/ktm dealer. All I need to do is try a couple on to see if they fit my head and find the right size but no dice.:panic:

Mr Lefty 09-21-2008 07:28 PM

I think I may try to contact my friends at Alaska Leather... if they can order the helmet.. the can have it shipped to me... if I don't like the fit... I ship it back to them and I'm only out the cost of shipping...

might be worth it.... then again... Tigger's prices are pretty bad ass...

Crappy base model HJC XL. Don't even know the model name it's like 4 years old, I seriously need to upgrade.
I've always wanted this simpson outlaw helmet but it's too damned expensive and no way to try it on before buying.

I've also wanted this convertible Givi lid for a while but it's hard to get in the states. Probably the most innovative helmet on the market today.

Obviously, there's some "bling factor" but when I'm looking for something in the trunk/elsewhere,reading a map, etc. They are very bright and run on a CR2032 battery forever. I built the first set but I got this set from a buddy I met at a Cycle World show a few years ago. It's got a switch to turn it on/off.

Actually not too bad in this helmet and they have a surround that causes them to "tunnel". I only run them riding when I'm cruising the strip....

Anyone held a Shark in one hand with a Suomy in the other? I hear the sharks are pretty light weight which is what I'm looking for.
