Adventure Camp

Puget Sound Safety offers weekend training courses (http://www.pssor.com/info.php?type=adv) that focus on the skills needed to ride larger dual sport bikes off-road but this was the first time they held a female only class. 18 women from Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho and even 1 from Alaska meet in Roy, WA for a weekend filled with riding, seminars, and camping.

Riding skills learned included body position, riding over, on and around obstacles, riding in sand or gravel, stopping and starting while going up and down hills, and physically turning your bike if you find yourself stuck on a hill.

The seminars went over how to pack your bike light, cooking on the trail, rope recovery of a bike, picking up your bike, satellite trackers, and necessary accessories such as engines guards and skid plates.

Overall it was a great weekend. I learned a ton, dropped my bike several times, meet some great people and had a lot of fun.

My GS covered in frost. It was a little early for camping!

This class was awesome! The first weekend after I made it to the snowline with not too much difficulty.

The second weekend we spent three days in the hills of Cle Elum / Ellensburg.

I did not drop my bike the whole weekend, which is a miracle since I did manage to do destroy the spacers on my engine guard on one particular rocky section.

sweet!

Safety class for dualsports? I think I learned anything they could possibly teach on a dirtbike in my backyard. Just got to have more respect for the weight. I need to setup one of these classes and make some money.

lauralynne 05-31-2010 12:34 AM

I want to do the next one - when is it?! :)

They have a coed one in October but it sounds like they will do an all female one again next year. If I hear anything I will let you know. The class was full so Kris did not get to go and I would do it again. The three of us can go make a weekend out of it! :rockwoot:

The class I took was $395. For me dirt riding is all new and having a soft field to repeatedly drop my bike while learning with little damage to me or the bike was worth the cost. Not to mention the pointers I got for how to tackle certain obstacles and exercises.

racedoll 05-31-2010 06:16 PM

Looks like the class boosted your confidence even more. Way to go!

Let's get some landscaping timbers and go find a field.

I think it's ALL absolutely fantastic. I mean, the experience itself sounds like a blast. And, getting taught along the way in that environment... AWESOME.

LOL, I am going to do the BMW class. It's near me.

I didn't realize she paid to do this one. Just thought it was a bunch of locals that got together.
