The Tale of Four Tail Bags! HELP!
4 Attachment(s)
Okay, I'm looking for some honest input here. I am stuck between 4 bags and would like some forum input to help me make my decision. The camo bag is fugly but an exceptional deal and the Fieldsheer is also priced to move. What do you all think?

ive got number 3, myself. I honestly like it, it holds plenty of cargo, and is expandable, but most importantly it is CHEAP. plus its got a rain cover and works great with a bungie or two on the back for extra gear.
The cons, though, are that i had some stictching come out due to over packing, and the straps that came with it left something to be desired. Fixed the stitching easily, and If you dont mind using your own tiedowns though i'd definately suggest it. oh it also has straps to wear as a backpack if your into that sort of thing. |

Thanks Bro! So you have the EXL bag correct? That bag ships for about $60. Actually, I picked four bags that are about the same price shipped but I'm not sure about any of them. Thanks again for your input tho'! |
yeap. exl. for something i only use a few times a year, it was a good deal.
|
None of the above?
Are those bags even big enough to pack for more than a day? Just to throw a kink in the mix, here's the bag I use. I have the large one. Aerostich Motofizz Bag |
I've got the Oxford version of that one in the first link. holds quite a bit. the Oxford version is pretty well constructed. heavy duty everything.
of course mine is green and says Ninja on it though. ;) I got mine at Daytona Bike Week a few years ago. here's their link http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3...id=47&pid=7&p= http://www.oxprod.com/photo.php?id=1055 |

Yea... I'm not YOU! If I use this bag even one more time this year, I'll be surprised! |
Damnit. I need to put Tigger on ignore. He keeps throwing up some kick ass deals and I can't buy! :tt:

I'm leaning towards the Fieldsheer or Cargo... both have really good reviews. I don't know about the cargo and how high it goes but it does seem to have a greater capacity at 45 liters. :idk: |
anyone ever think to recommend our vendor? Tigger check out eclipse luggage.

Oh, I have honestly never even seen that page! It looks like they have a "monster" bag a lot like the cargo one...
They want $139 for it though...:sorry: |
I like my Gears Navigator one...Derf has it to...I fit like a weeks worth of clothes in it with room to spare.
|
I really like how zedx's has the protectors so the straps don't rub on your paint.
|
I've got Cortech bags... but the fieldshear bag looks very similar... actually looks a bit bigger. I like it alot... I don't notice it at speed... and that would be my concern with some of those larger one... especially the urban camo one... be hard to strap it down and not have it slide side to side or what ever... ya know?

That's what I was thinking too... I'm gonna go with the Fieldsheer. |
Just got my feldsheer bags, the whole kit n kaboodle. Compared to the Dowco set I ad last year, these are super bags. Very well constructed and I think I will like them much better. Expandable as well. Ebbs Cortech bags were very nice too, good quality...the set I just got tho I think are larger than his, I went for best bang for my buck and size. All 3, saddle, tail and tank bags are expandable as needed.
|
Something ya'll might do until you're sure how waterproof your soft bags are, is to wrap everything inside in a trash bag liner or something similar. I'd hate to see any electronics get ruined.
That's *part* of why I went to hard bags. Positive sealing with rubber gaskets, *and* I can lock them. I know most of you though can't even get hardbags unfortunately. Just makin' a suggestion from when I ran soft bags too! :D |

Outstanding advice!! I do this as well, Ebbs should remember, I had bags everywhere! |

Yep I went with Fieldsheer also! I only got the tailbag, although I was tempted to get the saddlebags which were only $79! I don't plan on going on too many long distance trips on my torture rack, I mean motorcycle so... Besides, no offense, but I'm not a girl! I only plan on bringing a couple pairs of jeans, a bunch of socks/underware, a pair of shoes, and some t-shirts. I'll get the bag Tues and do a "trial load". We'll see from there. Oh, I also have a tank bag for loose junk and I still may bring my back pack, since I just paid $50 for it! |

Yea, I bought 2.5 gallon zip lock bags for that purpose. Between the bag already being water resistant, the included rain cover and these bags, I should be okay. |

here's my input: NO matter what bag you end up with - use clips and NOT BUNGEES to attach it. Bungees will fail and getting a tail bag between your swingarm and rear tire at 120mph is a life changing experience.

Ha been there, done that! Back in '97, I had a tail bag on my '97 YZF1000 and it slipped off and into my rear tire with my camcorder in it! The maker of the bag covered all of my repairs and my camcorder! This is the first one I've bought since! I'm thinking about strapping it to my seat cowl somehow. In fact, I have a couple old ones that I've considered bolting the pack to. |

I may have to do that to my rear seat... I don't take passangers!

I thought you'd know a little something about the nets since you seem to be Mr. Know It All with gear and most other bike accessories! redflip |

BTW, I found some cargo nets that I can use. :D http://www.jafrum.com/Accessories/Ti...ngee-Cargo-Net |

Please don't use bungee nets! That's 'not' secure! Use a tie-down strap or similar first.
|
Ya know, I just gotta say for those that tend toward bungee cables...
It CAN be done, and it can be done properly, with everything secure and no wear and tear on the bike and without the extra expenditure of unnecessary nets, etc... BUT, you gotta be able to tie down as if your life depends on it and it takes some elbow grease. I wish I had pictures of my first few trips. Backpack, large garbage bag, 5 varying length bungees, and some soft rags. Use the rags to wrap around the bungees where they may contact the bike. Use only secure, preferably frame parts or rear pegs to attach cables to, and go not only left to right, but side to side, intertwining and essentially making your own net. YOu can also hook bungees under the rear cowl or seat and put it back on for addtl security. Just a thought for those who dont have the cash to buy fancy stuff or bags, etc...you an also just take the seat or cowl off for a flatter more stable bag position. |

However, now I don't have to worry about it. I have a bag coming. It's an early birthday present. :rockwoot: |
I will occasionally use a bungee net over a dufflebag for small weekend trips. Never had a problem with it, but i'm not the guy who goes 115 down the highway either.

Cargo nets are awesome for strapping down cases of beer too! :rockwoot: Hmmm.....even though my old net is worn out, it'll still hold beer. Maybe I need to take it for the rally. :D |
