All season leather jacket. Recomendations?

After 8 years of service, my AlpineStars jacket has reached its limit of
bugs
dirt
rain
neglect
100+ degree temperature
30 temps
garage floor
layers of clothing stuffed under neath
etc etc

Whats the short list of leather jackets?
No preforated leather.
nice heavy grain
With ventilation (zippers)
and removable liner
and all the little spots to slip in additional protection
and isn't some overly styled "Whats up brah" doosh-mo-jacket?

Local shops don't have much of a selection (tons of textile, tonnes of summer\track preforated jackets) and browsing online has revealed a much bigger market than I could remember from last time I went shopping for a new jacket.

thanks in advance...

Rev'It and RS Taichi are "the shiznit" when it comes to quality, if you're willing to pay for it.

Cuz the ones with the most protection, have the most "power ranger" styling. :td:

Get a really good deal and buy two jackets is my advice... Seriously, you will never find a jacket that's going to cover all of the conditions listed well. If you have $500 to spend, get two jackets and be happy.

I got my jacket from these guys.. this shit is heavy and has all of what you want. Xelement brand.

I ditched all my Astar gear when I outgrew it in favor of Fieldsheer. I have a full suit and a longer riding jacket that has been awesome. The sizing is accurate and they all broke in very nicely. I forget the jacket model but the suit is a Revo. A little less money than the Astars and the stitching is better IMO...

pauldun170 10-27-2010 10:06 PM

Cool...thanks guys.
especially for the links

fnfalman 10-28-2010 12:07 AM

I'm not too keen on Field Sheer. The stitching doesn't look all that hot and it felt clumsy with the designs. Too Superman-y or something with the muscle paddings and such. I gave my Field Sheer jacket to my nephew and he loved that silly look.

You must return here with a shrubbery or else you will never pass through this wood alive!

What's ur current ride? Can't see on phone.

honestly, check hd if ur not into pure super sport aggressive riding stance. Almost everything they have will be under $500. They offer protective additives u can put in. Also, cooling pieces as well. Its this special material that u wet then add to places on the jacket. The water evaporates and keeps u cool without being wet either.

I know I know. Stfu u hd whiners. The one constant I found about hd stuff. Its designed by real riders. If they say it will do "X" then it will do it and do it well. Period. And generally all their gear is top top notch.

When I'm on a pc I'll post some ideas depending on what you are looking for. With their xr1200 bike becoming popular they have increased their line up to include more protection and agressive cuts.

CBR1000 arg arg
typical sportbike position

My current Alpine Stars worked out great, heavy duty leather, removable liners, zip up venting in a bunch of places. Unfortunately they dont make it any more.
I haven't been able to find something comparable. Its either perforated or it has minimal venting or its textile.

old jacket

Some of the color combos are a little extreme. Mine actually look less flashy than most Astar gear though.

Ok so this is pricey but look at what it has
http://www.harley-davidson.com/mcm/m...bmLocale=en_US

For christ sake it has a glasses pocket with a built in lens wipe. Completely waterproof, mesh cool liner, and body armor.

Gas Man 10-28-2010 08:51 PM

Textile is a bit cheaper
http://www.harley-davidson.com/mcm/m...bmLocale=en_US

And here's the hydration packs I was talking about... they go in some of their jackets
http://www.harley-davidson.com/mcm/m...bmLocale=en_US

Another example
http://www.harley-davidson.com/mcm/m...bmLocale=en_US

But i know i know, it's also got HD all over it. But they have quality stuff.

all either wrong color or wrong size available.

Thanks though...

pauldun170 11-01-2010 09:12 PM

Ok...couldn't justify the HD jacket (fit and price).

RS Taichi - http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=5524

Any thoughts on Icon and specifically the Accelerant (not the preforated one)?
http://www.newenough.com/browse/view...ct_images/1145

Homeslice 11-01-2010 09:21 PM

RS Taichi is one of the only brands I know with an athletic fit. Everyone else seems like they're trying to be all urban/loose fit.

Gas Man 11-01-2010 09:49 PM

Those are still $400 each

I have the Accelerant both perf and non-perf. It's a great jacket and very tough. My non-perf has seen 3 crashes and still looks great.

I can deal with $400 if its a solid jacket. Its around what I I paid for my Alpine Stars years back.

That $600+ FXGR was pushing it.

Gas Man 11-02-2010 02:28 AM

Oh. Tts the one u ended up looking at. Yeah. Tt is pricey.

wildchild 11-02-2010 12:47 PM

i have this in black naked.
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...In-Jacket.aspx

it's been good so far, nice liner. extra protection in elbow and shoulder and a back pad.
looks a little weird in the pic. the stitching is not that noticeable once you're wearing it.

I've keep revisting that one...good price...decent enough features. Not big on the look but not really against it. Its on the short list.

What temperature range has that jacket done well in?

Homeslice 11-02-2010 01:15 PM

It says "non-tapered design".........i.e. it's not gonna fit you dude. You work out too much. By the time you find the size big enough to fit your shoulders, it's going to be too baggy in the waist. I.e. not holding any warmth in.

Get the RS Taichi.

good point.

The only problem with the RS Taichi I found is that it has perforated panels.
(the issue is rain...)

it also should be noted that the FXRG line up carries a LIFETIME limited warranty.

with the liner in i've ridden in the thirties pretty comfortably with nothing more then a t shirt under it. liner out it has venting that you can open. i use it almost all summer.
the look is really better in person then in those pictures.

I hear ya... most hd guys don't. I have a Brooks leather jacket. 25yr warranty and I hope to have it longer than that. It's nothing awesome, but it's just a good honest, old school leather jacket. Made in USA!

pauldun170 11-04-2010 04:29 PM

Nabbed this ugly bastard in yellow. (Black Yellow Silver....good thing I only ride in wee mornings )
Couldn't pass up on the price and it will at least hold me over while a I make a decision. (I'm still looking)

Gas Man 11-05-2010 09:45 AM

:lol I understand why.

pauldun170 11-05-2010 04:21 PM

Didn't find an accelerant to try on but did find an Accelerant stealth (same "chassis" but a little different)
It was selling for 300 and overall a nice jacket. The problem with the Stealth is that its not really a leather jacket. Just a nice textile jacket with leather on the sleeves. I could have nabbed the standard Accelerant for 350 but they didn't have any lying around. Tried on Alpinestars Stunt and it definitely had a nice quality to it but I wanted a better liner for the price and some parts of the jacket kinda had me going meh.

Guy pulls out a Joe Rocket and its my size (46). Huge mixed bag this thing is.
Dated design, meh leather, shitty collar and weak removable liner but it had lots of zipper vents. Started thinking about the Accelerant and reconsidered spending 350+ on an Icon jacket.

Do I go with the original plan and drop a decent chunk or do I go the tigger route?

Doh...got another jacket.

Joe Rocket Blaster 4.0 in black. $170 impulse buy.
This is definitely going to be my hot weather beater jacket.

Now I have a high quality ugly jacket on the way and a low quality beater.
Maybe I'll get the zipper fixed on my Dyno and this way I'll have a high quality beater to go along with the rest.
