Center Stand lovers

Do you love them? Why?

I do love them, forget the weight issue, they are handy. Better stability, awesome for loading passengers (being you can drive off).

I haven't had a center stand since my ole Ninja EX500 and even that one came off when you fitted it with an aftermarket exhaust.

In 2009 the first year I had my Ultra, I wanted to get a center stand and almost got one in Carlisle. But didn't due to heat, money, and time.

I knew of 3 brands... Rivco but man does that look like cheap junk.

2 years ago at a MC Rally, I saw the Wheel Dock EZ Up stand, but didn't have the cash that day.

But then I saw HD had their own.

I figured the HD version would be the one to get. They USUALLY don't let me down, theirs featured a wheel on the ground option or rear wheel off the ground via adjustable feet.

I bought it from St Paul HD with a discount and a coupon. Well I was wrong!! The whole unit was held up with three 1/4" bolts... I wasn't liking that but I continued installation. Once completed, I found out the foot lever was DIRECTLY below the rear passenger floor board mount. WTF!! They want you to turn your foot sideways and use the knarling to push it down till you can actually put your foot on it. PLUS they won't allow you to drive off it! I immediately called St Paul (installed for 4 mins) and asked if I could return it, after checking with his manager he wanted a $40 restock fee and I would ship it to them. BS vortex. Sold it on ebay at a $20 loss. That is bad biz by St. Paul IMO.

I ordered the Wheel Dock EZ UP from their website, they have a 30 day full money back satisfaction guarantee. I have seen this in action before and should have just went with it in the first place. The HD failure is the 3rd time their product sucked compared to the aftermarket alternative. Live and learn...

Here's the Wheel Dock EZ UP

You can see this one has a BEEFY top plate that goes over the frame and is held on by a nice 3/4" bolt.

OH MY it works so well. You can lift the bike onto the center stand from the side of the bike or while still saddled on the bike!

The black bottom and chrome lever blends in GREAT!

Here's the bike standing up right. It's SUPER solid too!

Looks good, Gas!

You never did those before and after shots we had talked about a few months ago.

tommymac 09-19-2011 01:34 AM

for a touring/commuter type bike a centerstand is a mist IMO. That was one of the dealbreakers with me for the ninja 1k. no centerstand and apparently no way to install one.

Sorry man. Explain again, I don't remember. I'll do it up.

I've thought about installing one on the V-strom. However, I'm not making any more mods to it until I'm out of debt, regardless of how small the price is...

Find a few shots of the bike when you first got her (the whole bike).

Retake those same shots today.

So many of your pics are focused on your latest mod, it'd be really cool to see a comparison of the whole bike then & now.

That's a good plan.

I'd like to get the front fork legs powdered black.

Does that work?

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like the one you got and love has the same issue as the one you hated?

Gas Man 09-19-2011 11:34 PM

Nope. The ez up lever is sticking out well past the floor board mount. The hd one was under it. Plus different angles. Trust me way way different.

Plus the ez up allows me to put on center stand while still on the bike. And as I said. Drive off is real nice.

On of my buddies picked up a Zuma recently. Another one of the guys on the department took it for a ride, it was on the center stand and he was confused as to how to get it off. I told him to pin the throttle and then rock it onto the back tire :didntdo: Sadly, the guys stopped him before he could try it. :lol
That would have been interesting.

Gas Man 09-19-2011 11:40 PM

And you weren't rolling vid of any of this? Tisk tisk

I did... but nothing happened, the owner showed him how to get it off correctly, so no fun. :(

shmike 09-19-2011 11:56 PM

Yeah, that helps.

I was hoping for the exact same shot before and after (we all know you have a shot from every angle every step of the way ;)) but this good.

Fuck wheels, you only need a center stand a leveling device.

No Worries 09-20-2011 12:56 AM

That's a great idea, but shouldn't the centerstand be a little longer? I always use my centerstand, but I've never had a bike without one. I use it to check the oil level, fill the gas to the top, spin the wheels to get the tire valve where I can reach it, and the bike takes up less room in the garage. Plus, it looks cool to put it on the stand in front of other bikers (some can't lift their bike onto the stand). Decades ago, the point of a centerstand was to get the rear wheel off the ground for oiling the chain.http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/5...nterstand3.jpg

I know your Harley uses a belt, so what do you plan on doing with the bike upright?

Sorry. I will have to work on it more later but that was what I had in pb.

Thanks I have done a fair amount to it. Other than blacking out the front forks and doing a gas charge progressive suspension swap I'm done with it. Lol. I know that is almost funny.

Gas Man 09-20-2011 09:07 PM

NW: as said I don't need to oil. So I will use it mostly for parking, loading the bike with gear & passengers. But if I place a small piece of plywood (say 1/2") under the center stand it will lift the rear wheel, then push tt down to do the front. They don't make it longer all the time because with the wheels on the ground it gives it more stability.

Porkchop 09-27-2011 04:56 PM

I love my center stand on the 500. It made getting to the engine and carbs soooo much easier.

Gas Man 09-28-2011 10:54 PM

Well I also found out I have a love/hate with it on un-even ground. I love that when in such a place I can do a burnout without trying. I hate it when it does that, cause all I want to do is drive off it and away, but now have to get off and push it off the stand instead to leave. LOL

Rangerscott 09-29-2011 01:36 AM

Center stands are the cats meow, but I have to ask why have one on a harley? Its not like thy break down or anything.

Gas Man 09-30-2011 11:40 AM

LOL You're right but it's great for in place burnouts!
