Face shields, smoked or mirrored?
I'm gonna order my EXO 700 this day of days, and i'm getting a sunny day visor with it, but torn between a silver mirrored lens or smoked lens...

got a pic for me neebles?
|
I prefer the mirrored above anything else, but Nee's right, they are more prone to scratching. I still get them, I just have to be a lil more careful with it.
|
I love the mirrored look, but i'm also prone to scratching the lens... maybe i'll just have to actually take care of this lid...

My iridium was great for a while, but over time it just started to lose the mirrored coating and got kinda splotchy looking (which was more obvious from the inside looking out). |
I like smoked myself.
I have never had good luck with the mirrored ones, they seem to bother my eyes. (I have weird eyes) I see my own reflection inside the helmet.:td: Oh, and I tried it for my Arai and Shoei! |

I have dark smoke and love it.

Dark smoked for me...I just like them better and I worry less about scratches.

tirdy five bucks....
I used to play tournament paintball a while back and never had problems w/ my mirrored lenses, but a PB lens and a SB lens are 2 different things. I think i'll get the mirrored and if i end up hating it, lesson learned. I've spent much more than 35 bucks eating crow on several occasions. although seeing it on z06 and his wife make me lean back towards the smoke... fuck |
Which EXO 700 ?
|
I have a Scorpion EXO 700 with a dark smoke shield and I love it. :dthumb:
Never have been a fan of the mirrored ones personally. :idk: :beers: |
|
Look at this.... http://shopping.scorpionusa.com/C55D...D88F5D83D9D58C ....retractable smoked visor inside the clear visor....air adjustable fit. Friend of mine on another board just bought one and loves it.

Ok that's probably one more reason for you to go with the mirrored. Seriously I liked that helmet the first time I saw it...just didn't realize that's the one you were getting...sharp. :rockout: |

I agree.
Dark smoke gives more shading and is easier to care for/not scratch. I flip back and forth between clear and dark smoke once a day usually... |
Dark smoke. The mirrored scratches to easy and shows them to well.
|
just bought the dark smoke sheild with the helmet. i'll have pics monday for sure.

Glad you got the smoked shield with that lid. I had a "shieldsak" ( http://www.shieldsak.com/ )for carrying my extra visor with me. Basically a sling that held the extra shields. Strapped on the shoulder and never really knew it was there when riding. Only made the mistake once of going out without the clear shield. Stayed out later than I intended and had fun trying to ride home in the dark with that dark smoked visor. Had to have the shield up most of the time. Never made that mistake again.

Not that it matters now...but Scorpions mirrored shield isn't anti-fog like the rest of their shields.
|
Good choice NTS. Fog free clear and DK Smoke are all I've ever needed. And screw using a ball sack to carry it around, or whatever its called, just stuff the one you aren't using into a n old sock, keeps it scratch free and clean, whether you carry it in a tank bag or something, or stick it around your side inside your jacket.

Looks like I'm late posting but I now prefer clear shields. I owned a mirrores back when I kart raced and it was cool at first but as soon as things (debris/bugs/grease) started bouncing off of it it deteriorated quickly and almost became clear. So then I switched to dark smoke. That was great until I got caught out late one night and couldn't see a tihng on the way home. So... whie I still have some smoke shields I typically use the clear and wear my sunglasses. I won't be caught with a dark shield at night, and the polarized sunglasses are better than any smoked shield anyway. Now if they come out with a polarized shield I might be in trouble :).
|
My jacket has a pocket designed for carrying an extra shield...works great. Fits under the right arm from chest to back. I've actually carried an extra shield nearly in the same location without a pocket in the past before I had this jacket...never any issues...can't really fall out with a zipped up snug at the waist jacket.
The jacket is the Joe Rocket Reactor 2.0...other colors available but mine is red to match my bike... http://www.psndealer.com/dealersite/...r%20red400.jpg |
shit i should go check my jacket out, i've got a rocket 2-piece.

I prefer both...sunglasses and a smoked shield during the day.

The only reason I dont wear sunglasses when I ride is that I dont like how they fit under my helmet. Thats why I just go with the smoked sheild. |
I definitely prefer a smoked shiled over sunglasses. Nothing blocking any of your vision, nothing sitting on your face... its just a hell of a lot more effective and more comfortable. I usually always have my dk smoke and my clear on me. The new helmet with the drop down shades seem like a pretty sweet idea too though.

I had a problem with my Arai shield fog'n up in the cold up in AK... so I got a Fog city insert... it's one of those photochromatic ones... goes from a light green (like a car window) to a dark blue in about 3-5sec... works great! can't fog the fuck'n thing up no matter how hard I try... and it's dark enough to ride in even the brightest of light... but clear enough to ride at night with.
you can see it on my helmet here http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/IMG_0250.jpg |

Happened upon this
and thought it was interesting. A two-tone shield like a car windshield. |
I only wear a tinted shield. I prefer mirrored...but they scratch. So I have a dark smoke back up...which is on now. I don't even bother carrying the clear shield. Fuck it....I'll stumble home with the dark tint.
|
I just ordered a dark smoke. Haven't been able to find one locally, and sometimes my light smoke just isn't enough. Also ordered a shield carrier for my clear. Ordered a pair of the Cortech Mod Denim pants too.
|
I just ordered a ShieldSak; looks pretty nifty!
|
A dark smoke will look better on that lid.
In general, the mirrored visor finishes can get scratched by harder bugs at high speeds and pebbles and such, and do better with a little more maintenance. I liked the mirror enough to accept those things though and that's what I ride with. |
Do you think smoke or mirrored would look better on this exact helmet?
http://www.genuineaccessories.com/im...lver_small.jpg |
Dk Smoke looks better on any helmet, IMO!

I have one for my HJC, Also Icon and I think Scorpion and KBC both offer the same thing. |

I liked the mirror on my matte black helmet, but it did get all fucked up pretty quickly... That being said, I'm going to get another one anyway. |
helmet comes tomorrow... i'm already brainstorming some errotic photos to take with it.

yeah i got the 'spensive one.

what about just plain Smoke? I'm probably going to get that for my HJC. Want something with a little shade in the day and to shade car lights somewhat at night. But to still be able to see at night. Too many deer jumping around this area to restrict your vision.
I also didn't like glasses until I found this $5 pair of glasses which are the absolute perfect motorcycle glasses. They had skinny ear things and they stuck kind of far from your eyes. So they woudn't fog up ever because they were well ventilated. Of course if you really want Dark Smoke and don't want to carry another visor you could always find some Clear glasses to wear. So at night time you can put the clear glasses on and ride with the visor up. |
