Passenger Comfort on Sportbikes

We know the comfort level on a HD or cruiser, for the most part is nice. But what about a sport bike.

TN Stud got me wondering what is the most comfortable sportbike you have been on as a passenger? Or for a rider?

For me as a passenger, it would be 2000 ZX9, then my bike 04ZX6RR... after that I don't really know as I've not been on the back of many bikes. I will say that the WORST is an 04 ZX10R...again not having been on the back of many.

Honda F4I, can't speak for passenger seats...

Dave 10-11-2009 10:54 PM

the hurricane had a helluva pass seat

Trip 10-11-2009 10:57 PM

Katana is like a rolling couch. I haven't found it's equal in absolute comfort. I haven't ridden a F4i though. Probably along the same lines with the banana seat.

Forgot the Katana and you are correct comfy!

When did a Katana become a sport bike?

Isn't it pretty much mostly a gixxer from long ago?

My bro has a pretty good shot of him dragging everything at the gap that made killboy's highlights on his Kan o tuna.

Yeah it is.

My stock seat for the Ex500 was really comfortable. My SV seat after I had it redone by sargent was really good too.

As far as riding bitch? The sportiest comfortable bike? A VFR. Though i dont know if that counts as a sportbike? With the degeneration of my back, the worse by far, is a Monster. Followed by a ZX7.

Tmall 10-12-2009 05:57 AM

The worst would have to be an rc51 due to its postage stamp. Or mine due to its shortness.

Fleck750 10-12-2009 05:58 AM

1993 ZX-11 was so comfortable I fell asleep on the back of it.

I would say my KTM RC8 has an irrelevant passenger seat. It just snaps on and is a thick as a piece of 1/4 plywood. It also has about the same amount of padding. Looks terrible.

The 1098 looks equally crappy for comfort but the seat did replace the rear cowl so a bit more of an integrated look. Look terribly uncomfortable as well. Just less of an after thought.

I never mounted the rear pegs on either bike. The rear seat and pegs for both bikes get delivered in a bag.

Hydrant 10-12-2009 07:41 AM

The seat on a TLR is pretty nice, the passenger seat on the TL is better than the regular seat on most bikes now.

RACER X 10-12-2009 08:08 AM

Rue rode many hrs on the back of the VFR 1x
Z went for a quick ride on th busa and said it wasn't bad.

the rsv4's pillion seat is so small you could only put italian supermodel midgets on the back. And even they wont like it

My wife is always complaining of the Firebolt seat. I been looking for the touring seat for her.

CrazyKell 10-12-2009 10:40 AM

I was a passenger on an F3 once or twice and it was pretty comfortable due to the banana seat.

LittleTaz 10-12-2009 01:09 PM

F4i is fine for about 30 minutes as long as you don't mind all of your weight being on your hands/ wrists and don't care about seeing any of the scenery other than what is right beside you for a split second...:lol

Duc 900ss is surprisingly comfortable! Much better passenger position, more upright.

Of the SPORT bikes I had, the wife liked the Katana seat best followed by the K1200S

The TLR and Busa share about the same passenger seat and she thought those were OK

The R1 was stupid and she wouldn't ride it..but less because of the seat and more because she felt like she had to break herself in half to get ON the R1

As for the "other" bikes:

The motard she's scared of and won't ride

The RT she almost falls alseep riding because of the back bag with the cushion

HokieDNA01 10-12-2009 03:49 PM

I agree that VFRs are really comfy. Upright, low rear pegs and comfy seat especially a corbin. The GSXr 06+ has a pretty comfy position in that you aren' jacked up like a money with your ass way up in the air.

racedoll 10-12-2009 07:31 PM

Seems like most of the bikes with a banana seat are the most comfy. Doesn't really surprise me though.
