Motorcycle Test Riders Needed
About the Job
Have you dreamed of working in a Proving Ground environment? Modern Solutions is looking for Motorcycle Test Riders to support testing for a major motorcycle manufacturer at a proving ground facility located in Yucca, AZ (about 350 miles North West of Phoenix on the way to Las Vegas, NV). The successful candidate will test ride proto-type vehicles, keeping riding logs and reporting unusual performance, feelings and/or sounds.
Requirements
Candidates must have a valid driver license with motorcycle endorsement.
3+ years experience riding - including in heat, with leathers and for long distances/time periods - is required.
This position requires the physical ability to lift motorcycles up to 900-lb from a fallen or parked position and the ability to ride an average of 1,500 miles per week, including wearing full leathers for certain exercises.
We need road warriors, not weekend warriors.
Must also be able to adapt to changing between sportster, cruiser and sport style bikes.

Further requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a good 39-mo driving record, no serious criminal history, and the ability to pass a background, physical, and drug screen.

You know, until you've done the job...

I won't ever complain about my job, but there are some aspects of riding with BMW that don't make it the perfect job on the planet. But, I don't do it back-to-back day after day. I'm quite sure I wouldn't want to do it THAT often.

karl_1052 11-18-2009 09:23 AM

whats it pay? you are looking for work.;)

RACER X 11-18-2009 09:32 AM

oh yeah, i plan to give them a call. but chances are they aren't going to pay for my living expenses in AZ. so unless they are paying ALOT of $, it isn't worthwhile for me to go out there to earn a few more $ then unemployment + daycare. let alone the whole missing family stuff.

if it were in Houston i'd be all over it.......

wildchild 11-18-2009 09:40 AM

i know a couple guys who have done it. they loved it for the most part. said it had it's drawbacks but would do it again in a heartbeat.

i don't remember them mentioning the money, but I would assume anytime your talking about a job that lots of people would love to have it won't pay much. I could be wrong though, HD does pay very well in general.

funny this job is not listed on their career site.

Unless you've been to Yuma in the summer. I worked in the Chocolate Mountains, Chuckwalla Mountains, Palen Mountains, Big Maria Mountains, and Orocopia Mountains. It's desert, but it's a beautiful area. And I'm sure the cost of living is quite low. Go for it.

RACER X 11-18-2009 01:13 PM

did you read the part about $11.69/hr?

BobTheBiker 11-18-2009 01:15 PM

I'd be all the hell over it if it were in FL without any question in the world. hell $11.69 an hour is plenty for me to live on.

marko138 11-18-2009 01:28 PM

Sounds cool, but what the F do I know? And not for 11 bucks an hour. But, there are worse jobs.

No Worries 11-18-2009 06:21 PM

Nobody? There's not many twisties around there, but they have a billion acres of places to ride a dirt bike. Plus you can ride year-round, and hardly ever worry about rain. Housing is cheap, so you can buy a nice ranch. You can ride down to Mexico for Tequila, up to Laughlin for gambling, and to eastern Arizona for incredible roads and scenery. If I were only 40 years younger.

Tsunami 11-18-2009 06:30 PM

I would apply for it but I can't lift a fallen 900lb motorcycle...and I make about the same on unemployment.

Homeslice 11-18-2009 06:43 PM

Good luck in that horrible heat during the day, and freezing cold at night.

HokieDNA01 11-19-2009 01:22 PM

That little sportster is no where near 900lbs. More like 550lb. and yes under perfect conditions it can be done but how often does your bike fall over on a non-skid rubber mat on a flat surface?

RACER X 11-19-2009 01:23 PM

YouTube- How To Pick Up a Dropped Motorcycle

marko138 11-19-2009 01:25 PM

You fuckin girls need to hulk up.

HokieDNA01 11-19-2009 01:25 PM

And I was going to mention "Skert". the lady that lifts the big BMW. Those bike always seem to have side bags and Boxer engines so the bike is never really horizontal. Also your video above Racer X is on a Perfect surface again. Not the gravel on the side of a road. Plus that woman is HUGE.

And I'm not saying it can't EVER be done but weighing close to 100lbs and picking up a 900lb bike on a road/gravel surface sure isn't easy.

Yeah no kidding, that woman is 3x bigger than I am. I can't even lift my little dual sport when it falls. Actually aside from picking up 900lb bikes, I probably can't get some of those bikes upright from the kickstand

RACER X 11-19-2009 05:14 PM

well i haven't even seen that vid. somebody else posted it up

but there is a chic who goes around to womens riding groups and rallys and such and is like 100lbs and and demostrates to them and picks up her goldwing..........it's about technique.

 That thing hardly "falls" farther than it leans on the sidestand. Anyway- it's much easier if you put the bike in gear or hold the brake.

Gas Man 11-22-2009 01:19 PM

Sounds like a cool job.

I could handle everything about it but the pay.

900# is not a big deal... just need to know how to do it.

HokieDNA01 11-22-2009 01:25 PM

Well I proved yesterday that I could pick up my dualsport (240lb) about 20+ times per day so that is like picking up a 5000lb bike once right? Holy crap am I sore.

No Worries 11-22-2009 01:35 PM

Mea Culpa. I thought the job was in Yuma, AZ, but I see that it is in Yucca, AZ. That's even better. That area is the Basin and Range, but right next to the Colorado Plateau. Every road that comes off the Colorado Plateau is like coming down a steep Dragon. Route 89 from Flagstaff down to Congress has to be one of the best motorcycle roads in the U.S. And there's still a billion acres to dirt ride in. Plus, you can go prospecting for gold on the weekends.

Can you teach me when you come to Vegas?

I definitely can...if I still end up going. I will message you on facebook about the situation with Southwest.
