So what's it going to take?

For you to get out there on your first ride this season?

I was waiting for a rain and finally did take my first run.

You finishing up some mods or repairs?
Waiting on rain?
Testicals haven't dropped yet?
Higher temps?
Snow melt?
Muddy trail to bike storage location?

Provide pics as evidence in stating your case.

Rangerscott 03-13-2010 01:55 PM

What are these "first ride" and "season" you speak of?

Ill be going for a ride sometime today. Mid 60's and the wind is some what calm.

tommymac 03-13-2010 01:57 PM

dReWpY 03-13-2010 02:00 PM

Particle Man 03-13-2010 02:05 PM

I've already started riding.

Gas Man 03-13-2010 02:19 PM

Those that never had down time need not apply!!!

karl_1052 03-13-2010 02:26 PM

If the Canadians have started riding there is no excuse for anybody to not be riding.

CrazyKell 03-13-2010 02:39 PM

It'll be another month before my bike's out (at least). :(

We got more snow than you did this year.

'73 H1 Triple 03-13-2010 02:51 PM

It got into the 50s last sunday and I was ready to ride the ZR1100. I took my wife's jeep to the gas station to fill it and noticed the roads were full of all kinds of winter debris. I settled for just starting it.

It raining pretty good right now so that should clean all the shit off the roads. Probably wednesday for my first ride to work this year. :dthumb:

( I probably could ride tuesday but I shoot small bore rifle right after work and I think a gun case on the bike would draw attention to me  )

Cutty72 03-13-2010 02:52 PM

Waitin for Uncle Sam to let me come home to my bike...

RedRider2k2 03-13-2010 03:03 PM

Normally I would be just aching to get the bikes out but this year I've been trying to occupy myself with some Basement renovations. I'm trying to sell one so if I can let it sit in there for a while, I wont be too worried about it. I still might get them running today though.

KSGregman 03-13-2010 06:35 PM

I was out the first Sunday of March for the Cassoday rally...it's rained a lot since then..the roads should be in much better shape now than they were then. It won't be long.

smileyman 03-13-2010 06:44 PM

I am awaiting surgery in April to remove this titanium plate on my clavicle. See 'Smileyman's House of Pain' Thread for pics.

My rehab should take me into May when I hope my recently repaired Buell will take me cruising to Bikes, Babes, and Hot Rods, then Bikes, Blues, and BBQ. After which I will try and take in a couple track days...

Sixxxxer 03-13-2010 06:47 PM

I need an Oil change and a Rear Tire.

Other than that I also need Time...I've been busy as fuck as of late...Between Work/ And Wedding Stuff/ As well as just busy with other things.

Once it gets nice consistently though, I always seem to have enough time to ride :)

Yeah I should have listed medical issue as a possible excuse... but its not like I listed everything.

We do it being very irritated and cranky.

I need an oil change, tire change, low beam, and sticker for my plate/vehicle permit, but I've done close to 100 miles so far.

Gonna get out again today, supposed to hit the 40's.

Heck yeah. It's been nearly 18 months since I've ridden on the street.

marko138 03-14-2010 01:02 PM

I'm thinking either next weekend or anytime there after. Was waiting for rain...we got it. Needs an inspection when I get it out.

JoJoYZF 03-14-2010 01:11 PM

Waiting for the rain to stop and this sinus infection to go away. I dont want my first ride of the season to be when my head feels like its floating away. Should be this week though. Theyre saying 40s and 50s with sun so very soon.

dReWpY 03-14-2010 01:34 PM

im starting to get picky, its 40 degrees and damp, im not going out today

Mr Lefty 03-14-2010 02:47 PM

Captain Morgan 03-14-2010 03:40 PM

Let's see...all I need is for someone to loan me a bike. Or to win some money (or simply a bike).

Cass 03-14-2010 03:48 PM

I've already been riding ... about to head out for some two-wheeled therapy in a few minutes, actually.

racedoll 03-14-2010 04:11 PM

After I remove my forks and have them re-sealed.
After that, whenever the rains clear the roads of salt and cinders.
After that, whenever hubby says "let's ride"!

I was out already. Waiting for the weather to break to go out again. Probably Wednesday.

tached1000rr 03-14-2010 04:42 PM

For me to be legal, inspection and registration are due, have not had a chance to take care of either due to work but should this week hopefully/finally.

I went out a couple of weeks ago on Saturday and Sunday and ran into a license check point each day, luckily managed to narrowly avoid both without incident and decided it's not worth going back out until I'm legal.

We have them here from time to time before it would be like a few times a year and they would pretty much announce it as a booze it and lose it campaign, but these days they are on our backroads stopping traffic both ways:td:

There is one town about an hour south of me that the mayor has told cops to ticket everyone going even 1MPH over the limit. The town is having issues because property taxes have been capped and they're losing money. They decided to make up for the lost revenue by issuing speeding tickets.

We ran into a "checkpoint" back in November on our way from Lake Lure to Asheville. It was a couple state troopers. I think they just asked me for my drivers license.

they've been stopping people for 47 in a 45 down the road here.

this state is really laying it on thick.

Why?
Is there even a fine for this?

In ND you have to be 10 over before there is a monetary fine IIRC.

In NY there's a fine just for gettng a fine. I wish I were kiding.
As anyone who has ever gotten a ticket here can attest, the "court fee" they tack on to every infraction is off the freakin' charts.

Even for something like 2 over, and even if there is no fine for the offense itself, the court fee will be anywhere from 80 to 100 bucks.

marko138 03-15-2010 08:29 AM

Yep same in Pa. The extra fees are what make the ticke expensivee. The court fee, the EMS fee, etc. The list is extensive. Everyone gets a piece of the pie.

She is a little skeptical. We have agreed that that bike will be more for weekend and group rides rather than commuting back and forth to work everyday. She is more comfortable with me riding with other people than riding alone. I'm sure I;ll get on the bike now and then just to ride it to work though.

Luckily I don't have any tickets from PA. All MD. And after my incident in Indy, I never saw a bill from the cops/EMS- just the hospital for the X-Ray. I even got my copay back two weeks ago- a $30 check 6 months later. :gofurslf:

Thanks for the offer Avery. I might not make it that far on the first day, probably going to stop in Kentucky since that is about the half way point. I still have your number so if I do make it that far I'll call you.

Finally got to ride today. It was nice ( over 40* ) this morning so I rode in to work.

Nice easy cruise in ( until a comcast van ran a stop sign causing me to slam on the brakes. I kept my high beams on and the fucker flicked his cigarette UP in an attempt to hit me )

Nice being on two wheels again

Jeff

Supposed to be 60 tomorrow!! Going to ride as much as I can.

tached1000rr 03-19-2010 09:33 PM

Phenix_Rider 03-19-2010 09:40 PM

Another 45-ish miles today. About 30 on my bike, and 15 or so on dad's dinosaur H1. Strangest thing I've ever ridden- tall skinny tires, long skinny tank, long seat, weak brakes, weird footpegs, kick start, carbs... I thank the motorcycle gods for electric start, FI, real brakes, grippy tires. real suspension, and a tank you can hold with your knees. That said, I'd have fun on a modern two-stroke street bike.

There is a easy front brake upgrade, it uses a EX caliper , a simple mounting plate and a ex master cylinder ( if you want to upgrade that too )

That's definitely something I'd do- at least, mount up a second front brake. Doubt he'll go for it though. And I really hate that sissy bar  It's just in the way all the time.

I did the brake upgrade on my '73 H1. I got a '07 Ninja 250 master cylinder and caliper off Ebay for about $50.

It even came with the original rubber brake line that fit :dthumb:

I was implying that yours MUST be fitted with the 50% odo. It only shows half of your true milage.

I'm just busting your balls obviously, I was looking at pics of yours and thinking, "Why doesn't mine look that good?" it's all corroded, paint is flaking off of parts.
