I'm just "over" her... the fun to frustration ratio is outta whack, and we spend more time working on her (or being frustrated about working on her) than I actually get to spend riding her. So I think soon I'll let her find a new home, and we'll replace her with something newer, prettier and (more of all) more reliable....

600rr, it's a yamaha R1 killer

It's just not a comfy bike to me. The ergos on the R1 (esp the '04 to '06) are much comfier to me. :shrug:

And the R6 is still on the short list... and strangely, so is the Busa (though I'm still not sure if I'm comfortable with the attention that comes with riding one of those).

i have no great love for busas neebs but if you like it then fuck everyone else. :dthumb:

Oh I know... it's not that I'm worried about "what people will think," it's more the unwanted attention (mainly from obnoxious guys) on the road.

I did finally ride Chris' R1 Saturday.... Holy cow...... it lived up to every expectation I ever had of it. Just a fan-freakin-tastic bike and a joy to ride (in SPITE of the blinding, torrential rain I encountered on my way home)....

It's weird but I definitely see you as more of a 'busa person than an R1, and definitely more than an R6. I don't think you'd like the peaky (compared to a busa) nature of the R6. Good luck with the decision! It's a fun one! And like I said, you need anything (barrow my trailer?) let me know.

As long as you arent planning to do alot of track days and such, the busa is a great bike for fun and as a commuter, I think you'll love it if you go that route...I wouldnt mind having one for a long distance ride come to think of it...

Check insurance on all of them too. I know that was a factor when I got my new ride as well.

The long-distance comfort of the Busa is a nice point in its favor, but then the insurance thing is a going point (our ins co does look at the cc's of the bike).... hmmm... so many things to weigh....

I've literally never even sat on one actually... :lol: I know everyone's raving about ALL the new GSXR's, but I hadn't even considered them, actually (not that I have anything against them, just hadn't looked at em :shrug:)

I def want the busa but the insurance would kill me so I'm gonna wait and see what happens. I might just settle for an older model gsxr1000 they are just as comfy. I do want a newer model bike though it offers such a different and smoother ride.:twfix:

Insurance won't be a big factor with us. We're with USAA and have been for many, many years. When I got rid of my 97 900RR and added my 05 R1, my semi annual premium went up a whole $20.

Right, I agree. Going from a 600 to a 1000 is going to be a big enough jump, so before I decide definitively on one bike over another, I want to see what that next leap from 1000 to 1300 cc's will be.

The insurance on my blast was 156 a year for liability with Shelter ins, but all of my family's vehicles were on that plan. When I got the R1, only a few different companies in town would insure it at all, with one 26 in a 25 ticket on my record. The lowest price I could find was for 550 dollars a year for liability.

Yup, I was looking at $4k/year for the busa
$2800/year for a liter bike
$2K/year for a 750
and $295/year for my buell...

All the same coverage, full coverage, $500 deduct

I never did get to ride them at Bike Week, but I have to say I wasn't wild about the Buell I DID ride.... :panic: (mind you, I'm aware the 1125 is a completely different animal though).

Oh I know there will be a jump. But i'm not worried about it. It won't be anything major. I'm sure it will be more then $20 a year, but not horrible by any stretch.

I'm with USAA old school, where all my coverage is through USAA direct. Not farmed out to Progressive or whoever they are using now.

I have full coverage on my truck, my R1, Nee's 6R, a $75k renters policy, and a seperate $5k policy on Nee's engagement ring. We pay alittle over $2100 per year for everything, for both of us. So we have room to work with if rates go up some :dthumb:

I'm still through state farm at the moment... but I think I'll end up swaping over to USAA... cause my insurance is through Oregon... and since i'll be buying a house in Mississippi... it'd probably save me money to put the house, my trucks, and my bike all on one plan through USAA.

I hate to switch though... the office i use for State Farm has been fucking awesome! I may stay with them just because of how well they've taken care of me.

I don't know if everywhere gets a great deal. I was with Dairyland/Sentry insurance already with the SV... they happen to be the "cheap" ones with the Buell as well.

You may want to check before you swap. From what i've been told, USAA doesn't write motorcycle insurance direct anymore. They will write everything else for you, but they farm out motorcycle insurance to someone else. It may even be State Farm now. I know it was Progressive at one point in time.

Thats what I meant, i'm with USAA old school. I'm covered by them directly for everything. They don't cover everything "in house" anymore. I've been with USAA since around 1991.

I've heard good things about Dairlyland and Farmers insurance as well.

ahh ok... well as long as it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg... I'll be keeping my trucks and bikes under state farm... the only thing is I have to do extra leg work to register them and do the annual inspections paperwork for Oregon.

The XB9RCX I believe it was (the citycross edition of the XB9R). That thing jiggle the shit outta me!!!! My friend rode a regular XB9R on that same demo ride, and he hated it, too. :panic:

Dairyland wouldn't insure me on the R1. Must be because I'm 19.

I get challenged all the time on my old GS, so the GSX-R 1300 would just be worse. I'm looking at two 98's. The ZX-9 is fast, comfortable, and can sport-tour with it's big fairing. The R1 is also fast, and can be made comfortable. Of course, the 98 R1 is more desirable than a new R1 because it is carbed and has the long-stroke engine for low-rpm power. Most of the old R1's I see were thrashed. But I've seen some nice low-mileage ZX-9's (post 97's are best) for $3500. They need suspension work and the jet needle has to be shimmed, but what a great bike.

USAA quoted me about the same and they did send me to progressive. Older models and newer bikes have drastic price differences.

The only way you'll have USAA for your bike is if you're grandfathered in like me. They don't do that shit anymore.

I got my 2000 R1 with most performance mods you can do for $3800. Only downfall is 42000 miles, but it still runs like a champ.

Since carbs are a large part of the problems I've had with my current bike, I'm kinda leery of going carbed again (at least for a daily rider).

We've talked it over a bit more (and some more and some MORE) and the R1 really looks like the way I'm gonna go. If I come across a SCREAMIN good deal on a Busa that I just can't pass up, then I might still go that route, but there's fewer mods I'd need to do to a stock R1 as opposed to a stock Busa to be happy with it right off the bat (I'd have to "anti bling" any Busa).

you rode the 08 ten neebs? how did you like it? i think its the sexiest of the current litres (after pipe) still curious what yami and zuk are gonna do in 09'. arent they both due for new models? might be worth waiting it out a few more months. even if you dont like what they come out with the dealer is gonna be semi desperate to move out the old ones. plus winter is always the best time to find a deal

Yup I rode it at Bike Week this year. I actually really liked it; surprisingly comfy (even moreso than the '08 ZX6R, which I also rode). But I'm not wild about the way it looks. :shrug: Right now, I hate to say it, but for '08, Zuk is really the best looking lineup out there, followed closely by Yammy. But yeah I think '09 means a redesign for Yamaha.

If I thought my bike would make it till March without major headaches, I'd hold out, have Chris get an '09 R1 and then I'd inherit HIS. But I don't think I'll be holding out that long.

Huh, really? I had heard the pics of the new R1 will be out sometime next month, but that it would be March before it's available. I could be wrong though. :shrug:

Thats what I thought also. Normally "most" manafactures show the pics of the 09 models in Sept. From then the cruisers and smaller bikes will start to "trickle" in and they usually release the new model liter bikes around Feb/March.

yeah i think they are holding the new design till some show in sept. and nee, if thats the case then if you go with an older one you can flip it without loosing much if anything if you guys like the new ones. eh, my opinion. love the hawk nose on the new ten, and kawi's integrated dash clusters kick all kinds of ass

If it's a complete redesign or similar, they usually don't release them until that actual year, but if everything's pretty much the same, you may be able to see 'em in '08. The '09 R6S will be out this month for example.
