1973 yamaha RD250 for sale/trade $2500 obo

doing this to help a buddy find a newer bike.

he's got a 73 RD250 2 stroke bike, which is road legal, currenty registered and insured, and actually riding around. starts with 1-2 kicks cold right now.

He's put a lot of work into this recently, anything that has color to it is powdercoated, including the fuel tank, rims(chrome powdercoat) both fenders, chain guard, rear sprocket, rear hub, part of the front rotor, and some other parts I dont recall right off.

The rear turn signals were moved much closer to the center and fastened into the tail light bracket, all turn signals are LED, you'll need an electronic flasher relay for them to work right.

DG performance expansion chambers and carbs rejetted for the pipes and pod filters. stock pipes are available if you so desire.

Tires are brand new rubber as well.

needs a new chain/sprocket set and some minor cleaning in the petcock. If I get over there before someone buys/trades, I'll fix the petcock issue.

Not sure of the milage on it, as he's got a tach only setup on it, but the bottom end was rebuilt recently, with 3000 miles at most on the top end. clear title also. Dont know if he has stock gauge cluster for the bike.

Overall, this bike is very much a register and ride machine right now.

Bike is located in New Port Richey FL, about an hour north of tampa.

he is looking for $2500 OBO, or trade for a newer sportbike with clear title in FL. presently registered in Maine, but a trip to the DMV and the title and registration is in your name.

and no the good lookin girl on the bike isnt included, nor even legal for most of you.

fuel tank, rims(chrome powdercoat) both fenders, chain guard, rear sprocket, rear hub, part of the front rotor, head light bucket, both levers, upper and lower tripple tree, handlebar mounts, Heads and cylinders, engine covers, one of the 2 side plates (one is plastic and would melt) , most nuts and bolts, battery box, swing arm, dg pipes also powder coated, kick stand, foot break lever, passanger pegs along with driver pegs, headlight bucket ears,

engine is glass beaded and coated

ZUKIMON 04-10-2009 08:20 PM

I'd love to have an RD350. Don't know why, maybe cause dad had one. I know it'd be fun to screw around on. :D :D Good luck bro!

Our yamaha dealership has a kenny roberts race bike autographed on the front cowl. It sits right beside the R1 LE they have on permanent display as well.

funny thing. the RD 250 can be upgraded to a 350 by simply swapping the cylinders and pistons, plus heads. I know sniper knows all about this shit, there are all kinds of weird things you could do. and even funnier, he's got an RZ project goin on right now.

sniper 04-11-2009 01:41 AM

LOL to make a 350... just need a set of heads and 65mm bored cylinder

i have 2 brand new never used (just installed then removed) set of wiseco racing pistons for a 350 im giveing with the bike also...

and i bet it isnt a real auto graph... u can buy the auto graph sticker on ebay for the rz all dam day... i can bet almost anything its a sticker

and i may sell the rz frame and shit soon also..idk yet

btw im willing to take almost any 4 stroke...

and rd has gained a problem.. once engine heats upp idk why but the left cylinder doesnt wanna fire properly...

sniper 04-13-2009 12:01 AM

price lowered to $2000 or a cbr600

sniper 04-18-2009 11:48 AM

Been working on it... wicked fast now.. well for a 250

sniper 04-19-2009 07:21 PM

Rd is running great.. im not gonna touch it untill it leaves in fear i may fuck it up more.. or the RD gods will screw me over where i cannot trade it...

iv come to accept the fact... 2 strokes are MUCH fun... just not ment for me..

You said you don't want to touch it, but the firing problem may be the timing has slipped a little on that cylinder, if it is not a coil/wiring problem.

The only things needed to convert to a 350 is pistons, cylinders, heads and bigger carbs. RD tip for the day... Use RZ350 pistons in the RD350/400, They have larger port windows, work perfectly and they are worth about 5 additional ponys...

sniper 04-19-2009 11:09 PM

the carb part is compleatly untrue... im usein same carbs on my 250 that i had on the 350 and my 400..

I stand corrected, I was thinking of the DS7 (26mm). The RD250 used the same VM28 as the 350.

askin $500 starting offer

Gas Man 05-10-2009 10:11 PM

You should have just replaced the piston and sold it as is. You'd make your money back on it.

BobTheBiker 05-10-2009 11:37 PM

he would, but right now, unless someone is buying it, he's not willing to even TOUCH the damn thing. and I cant blame him. if one thing dont break, its another, or something else, or even something more random than that somewhere.

shmike 05-11-2009 10:36 AM

The honesty of Bob and sniper is commendable.

That said, if any perspective buyer sees this thread they might just think twice about the purchase.
