The Ugly Bikeling rides again

Some of you may recall my ugly GSX-R got even uglier a couple of months ago when a control rider knocked me off the track. It looked like this before the wreck (yes, this is the BEFORE shot, lol):

The wreck broke off the left side controls and the rear subframe, dented the tank, broke my front fairing stay, and knocked a chunk out of the upper fairing.

I performed a radical tailectomy on it, replaced the controls, and put the stock seat back on.

I only had a Vortex fairing stay for an 05 GSX-R 1000. It bolts up to the 06 GSX-R 750, but the ears are in the wrong place, so I had to drill even more holes in the upper fairing and muscle it around a bit.

There's a big chunk missing out of the side of the upper fairing, but zip ties and the belly pan held it on with no trouble.

Here she is in all her glory at Jennings last weekend:

A couple of action shots:

And onboard video from the Oregon Scientific ATC 2K I mounted on the right side:

I thought the missing tail section would bug me, but I really didn't notice it at all. So I'll just keep riding it like this till the wheels fall off. :D

Thats AWESOME Sanchez!! Glad to see you got right back into!! I'm dying to get back out to the track...*sigh*

In other news, I never forgot the vids you wanted, my friend didnt have a chance to edit them before an unfortunate event involving fire...we dont think they were damaged, but they were confiscated with everything else, 1.5 months ago and for the foreseeable future!

Ahhh, and another bike lives to be ridden another day :)

I'm ALMOST a little surprised it passed tech, but I'm also not... usually we like to have the fairing stays/subframes covered up by bodywork... but it doesn't look like there's any real risk of serious injury if someone were to get hit by it.

Though if it were the same TD organization as the one that "employed" the CR that hit you.... maybe they just kinda turned a blind eye to it ;)

That's pretty ridiculous that a CR would hit you.... As someone that's "in the business", that's a TD organizer's PR NIGHTMARE and the LAST thing that should ever happen. I'm really glad to hear you weren't seriously injured.

awesome as long as it runs. It's almost as ugly as the awesome's bike use to be.

PhiSig1071 01-21-2009 01:41 PM

I think it's beautiful!

I like it, less money in parts more money for trackdays!

the chi 01-21-2009 02:07 PM

You know, Oreo's right, and I remember that it was a CR that hit you, but I have been to a track day or 2 that had CR's that should NOT have been CR's.

I put it down to the buddy buddy system, but I'm thinking regardless of what class a rider may be in, a CR's responsibilities to other riders shouldn't really change...and a few of the ones I've seen have gone after some riders like they were Hayden and Rossi...to their detriment, but they did it nonetheless!

*in one instance, they decided to sandwich an older, more experienced ex racer, repeatedly, trying to stand him up in a turn as if they were competing, till he had enough and stood them both up and carried along on his merry way! Guess it goes to show that you dont always know what your messing with!!!

Sanchez, did anything ever come out of this? Like assistance from the responsible party or an apology?

I like it. Keep ridin dude
