A* Problems???

Anybody have problems with A* zippers?

The reason I ask is recently my nice summer A* jacket started separating or splaying from the bottom if I did not zip the jacket just right. I always thought that they used an awful small gauge zipper for a supposed motorcycle jacket. And it kind of troubled me that if I ever went down, this sob might come apart. It usually took a time or two to get it to zip right.

Fast forward to yesterday, I was going to show my bike to my old roommate and then hit up our local D.O.C clubhouse for the F1 race and a quick evening ride. I had trouble getting my jacket to zip up leaving my storage unit, but it eventually went. Well, when I went to zip it up leaving my bud's house I knew something was wrong. It just plain wouldn't go up, or if it did, the zipper would run up the jacket without zipping anything. Seems like the bottom tab had come away from the rest of the zipper and won't allow the two sides to bind at the bottom. So I had to make the unfortunate decision to ride 15 minutes with an open jacket, or no jacket at all to Iron Pony, in the cold. I decided "some" protection was better than no protection and rode the highway with a completely open jacket flapping in the wind. I felt like a fucking idiot... and cold. :panic:

I found a Tourmaster Saber Series 3 fall/winter jacket that fit well for a good price and jumped on it. Boy what a difference a good lined jacket makes over a summer jacket!!!

My question is... do you think I have a case for workmanship problems for the old jacket, or would you call it wear and tear??? I mean the jacket is only 1.5 years old, and I didn't even have a bike most of that time. I may email A* and ask anyway...

1.5 years is just starting to break in. I'd be pissed

I've heard lots of people having issues with the zippers on their boots. I have a pair of pants I've been wearing for years and they're perfect, other than the fact that I'm getting too fat to wear them.

My only problems with A*s is that their gloves suck.

I still own them, I just don't expect them to last.

Can you post up when you hear about the annual parking lot sale? I always miss it.

A decent leather shop should be able to sew in a nice YKK zipper. Might find such a shop in the cruiser world.

Same here, had a pair of Octane gloves for the last 4 or 5 years with no problems.

My GP Plus gloves broke a seam near the end of the middle finger within a few weeks of me buying them... it's not that bad so I never did anything about it and they've otherwise held up great.

WHAT THE FUCK....

I just went to ride today and pulled out my full size A* MX-Plus boots since its colder. And the seam on the zipper on the right boot is busted half way up the zipper. Bad luck. I may move away from A* for awhile...

I just finished my 3rd season with my octanes and they're still in great shape. I have a pair of gp plus gloves too but haven't worn them enough to judge.

You haven't worn them enough.

I've worn through a set of GP Plus' and busted seams in the fingers in two sets of GP Pros.

Of course, my cheapie A*s mesh gloves have lasted forever.

Same, my A* street gloves last forever. But I can go through 2 sets of GP Pro's in a track season fairly easily.

And as both of you mentioned, the seams on the fingers are always the Achilles' heel.
