So who's racing AMA this year? Hopefully you!

I'm stealing this topic from a thread on a more local board that CEO and I are both on... here's a copy/paste of how it started, just wondering what kinda feedback I'd get on here:

Quote:

Like the title says. Which of you current 600cc MW guys are going to line-up at a AMA race this year?

In case you missed it, the AMA changed Supersport for 2010. Last year Supersport was only for 16-21 year olds and was the series development class. Well it's still the development class, but now it's open to all riders with a Expert club license. The class will now score points for Young Guns (16-21) and Top Guns (22+). It will be one wave but again, scored separate.

So yup. Who's going to go for it at VIR or NJ? If I had a 600cc bike that fit the AMA Supersport rules I'd do it.

I'm waiting for my 2010 sponsorship details to be finalized to see what I can afford to do... If I can, I may end up "stealing" my teammates R6 & whisk it away to NJMP or VIR for a weekend :D

Apparently the Qualifying cut-off percentage is pretty generous...
107% for ASB (was 108% last year)
110% for DSB and SS, which should be cake for a decent amount of experts if you know the track well.

Last year at NJMP, P.J. Jacobsen won the pole with a 1:24.391
110% of that is a 1:32.830... I bet I could pull that off. I did a 36.6 at a track day on my LWSS SV650 with Loudon gearing.

And Josh Day took pole at VIR with a 1:29.398
110% of that is a 1:38.34... Hm... It's been years since I was at VIR... but think I did a 1:55 on an EX500 that was topping out at 105mph by Pit In! :skep:

field should be wide open with the garbage payouts they have this year. Dmg keeps going they way they are and it'll be an all privateer series in a few years

Good luck OreoGaborio! That's great!

I feel anyone with talent and equipment could make better money with less initial costs running a club event. Some of the CMRA Racers take down 5-7000 a weekend. I am not sure about other big clubs like WERA.

If you want to do it to say your an AMA racer thats fine, but it wont make you a professional.

OreoGaborio 02-05-2010 01:23 PM

Agreed. The goal is just to get experience and the team name out there. Around the North East, LRRS, which I already compete in, is pretty much the only game in town. The only other possible options with a couple rounds that are even remotely in the area are are AMA & USCRA... I think all of which are pretty damn competitive & have low financial rewards for anyone not on the podium. I haven't looked into the NJMP series much yet but there's 4 rounds of that as well.

"Going pro" and making money is far from a reality for me now. But the possibility of racing on the same track at the same time as some of the top riders in the country is!

not to mention maybe tv time

OreoGaborio 02-05-2010 01:59 PM

Yeah, as I'm getting lapped by the leaders ;)

Maybe they'll call me "Johnny Rock Pete"! :D

The AMA can stick it up their collective asses. NONE of our local fast guys are doing AMA. Our home club, plus some WERA and AFM stuff

smileyman 02-05-2010 03:05 PM

If your club is good you've been beaten by guys like that before. My knee pucks have scuffs from the likes of Danny Eslick, Ben Spies, Ty Howard, Danny Dominguez, Chase Vivion. I wont pay travel expenses and AmA entry fees and license to get passed by them again. And with noTV time or real coverage, very little general public turn out I would rather support my home club and home tracks...

OreoGaborio 02-05-2010 03:13 PM

I don't think you need to pay for an AMA license for Supersport, it's open to all Expert licensed club racers. At least that's the impression that I got.
