I do this with baby shampoo.

Put a towel in the sink, flip the helmet onto it's top on the towel, fill with water (make sure you have closed the vents). Put in a wee bit of baby shampoo. Ever so slightly work into the pads.

Rinse.

Squeeze out as much water as possible.

Put on top of box fan to dry.

I don't soak it... but I do submerge it. I know of people that will put it in their dishwasher with the visor off - just have it on a no heat cycle. The water won't hurt it, but the heat might.

I now no longer ever have a funky helmet.
