Restraining orders aren't worth the paper they're written on. Chances are good that if you're afraid enough of someone that you need one, they aren't going to let a court order stop them from getting at you. Law enforcement also drags their feet enforcing them. If they want to do you harm, the damage is going to be done before the cops show up.

Get yourself a gun, get trained how to use it, get a license to carry it if your state allows it and protect yourself when it is necessary.
