THe stock gearing on the FZ1 is the culprit here. As simple as dropping the front sproket -1 to a 16 tooth makes a big difference in the bottom and mid-range. Adding a PCIII, slipon and a few other mods wakes up the motor a lot. I average around 35mpg back and forth to work but have a lot of lights once I get in town. With the 16 tooth sprocket I can putt around in traffic at 40 mph in 6th gear if I want.

I'm sure a few aftermarket goodies would really help both of these bikes, but I compared them both stock to stock.
