R1 Clutch Slider

The main purpose of the clutch slider is to protect the clutch linkage. Not to protect the engine cases. They actually make case savers for the R1 and they are totally different.

If you look at the pic, you can see how the clutch saver works. See where the clutch cable goes into the case. If you notice, there is a small cover from the factory to protect the clutch linkage. In the R1, that oem cover isn't actually that strong. A few people have had problems in low speed tip overs with the clutch linkage breaking off due to the cover snapping. So Graves and a few other companies came up with the clutch slider to help protect the clutch linkage. It's cheap insurance. I've never heard of any issues on the R1 forum with anyone having problems using the rear brakes due to the slider being in the way.
