HELP!!!...... bike not runnin' right

ok guys here's the story...........

after my accident in Aug. of last year, i rode the bike one day in October to make sure it was running right, wheels not bent, forks straight etc.....
and also got the inspection done. everything felt and sounded fine.

winter came around, then FF to about 3 weeks ago.
i adjusted the slack on the chain for the first time went for a ride around the neighborhood everything was good.

now this is where the frustration starts.....
the very next day, it was a beautiful day and wanted to go for a ride.
get about 2 blocks away from the house and eng. dies. starts right back up,
get another block and eng. dies again. i figure maybe i need gas.
starts up again, go to the gas station and fill up.
pull out of the station dies again. starts back up now it surges back an forth with power, exhaust backfires, lose power and dies again. (WTF!!

)
starts up again ride down the block, into 2nd gear and same thing.
start it up once again then dies on me just in time for me to coast into my driveway.

OK,
last Sun. buddy of mine told me to "let the bike run for while, and crack the throttle a few good times".
did that, went around the block and same thing.

it starts and idles fine, but when i ride it loses power and dies.
also while it's idling in neutral and i roll it forward it cuts off.

any help or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

How long was the bike sitting gas can go bad if it sits to long with out fuel treatment.

at first i was thinking loose kickstand sensor, vibrations = engine cut off while moving. But that doesnt explain it dieing in N. Bad gass sounds plausible, but if the bike is starting and idleing fine then it shouldnt pose a problem (didyou put stabil in the tank this winter?) Then i'd think about your carbs, maybe they arent tunned properly and your bowls are flooded or fuel is being blocked from getting in (again cause of bad gas, whatever) but then your bike wouldnt just start right up.

in other words wtf.

from Oct. to about amonth ago with about 1/4 tank of gas.
but i did start it up a few times in between.

metal tank? coulda got some surface rust goin on, made its way to the filter, thru the filter, into the carbs. my bike did the same thing when i first got it, had been sittin around. gotta clean the tank, change the fuel lines and filter, clean the carbs. about two hours and 15-20bucks

or the fuel could just have gummed up the carbs. gotta clean em. bout a hour and 5 bucks

I would start with the fuel filter,it's an easy fix and inexpensive. The only other thing I can think of is a fault tip sensor or fuel pump.

Dump the gas. Even with new gas on top, the stuff has a lot of precip. Try running a few ounces of Yamaha carb clearer into them, let them sit an hour or so, then drain and fill the tank with fresh gas. Oftime the bike will run with old gas until you put a load on it (sounds like what is happening) This MAY cure the problem, but chances are the carbs are munged up.

You didn't say how many miles are on the bike, and how many miles are on the plugs. If you only ran the bike at high idle and no load in the garage since OCTOBER, pretty good chance the plugs are all sooted up, too.

If new gas, some Yamaha carb cleaner and new plugs fix most of the issues but it's still a little balky, try a few tankfuls of Chevron, or buy some Techron from your local auto parts store. This stuff works, as long as the carb orifaces and channels aren't COMPLETELY plugged. Couple tankfuls of gas with Techron really does make stored bikes run better.
