Default Internet Explorer users have lower IQs: study

http://news.yahoo.com/internet-explo...140027121.html

Using Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) to browse the web? Your IQ score is likely to be lower than someone using Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera.

A new study published by online psychometric testing company AptiQuant Psychometric Consulting Co. has found that a user's choice of web browser is related to their cognitive ability.

"There was a clear indication...that the subjects using any version of Internet Explorer ranked significantly lower on an average than others," said Aptiquant. Out of all the IE versions, "subjects using IE 8 [fared] a little better."

People using Opera, Camino and IE with Chrome Frame scored slightly higher than their not-so-bright Internet Explorer-using friends, suggesting that people with a lower IQ "tend to resist a change/upgrade of their browsers."

"There was no significant difference in the IQ scores between individuals using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Apple's Safari; however, it was on an average higher than IE users," said Apitiquant.

More than 100,000 people in USA, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand took the online Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (IV) test in the space of four weeks and their IQ scores were correlated with their browser choice for the study.

Same here.

This argument is so stale. If someone doesn't spend a lot of time online, there's no need to seek out the most advanced stuff. Same with phones or TVs or any other device.

I use IE9. I switched to it after using Chrome and Firefox for a while. Guess I'm retarded.

IE9 is actually pretty decent.

The higher the IQ, the more people automatically assume that popular stuff is crap (be it music, books, cars, or internet browsers). So they seek out non-mainstream stuff, and automatically assume it's better. Even when it isn't.

I'm digging it. I was using Chrome as my default, but there are just a few too many sites that I visit (this one included) where it just bogs down and lags out. Firefox is alright here and there, and I use it every now and then for some other sites, but IE9 is actually pretty smooth, presents the fewest problems, and actually works. I don't know what the hell got into Microsoft lately, but between IE9, Windows Phone 7, Zune Pass, and their move to give better ties between all of their services, they're doing quite a bit to get me more interested in their products again.

Right now a Droid X. My cousin got the HTC Trophy. The build quality is excellent, the OS flies along, and I'm pretty impressed with the UI and how everything is integrated and has a consistent look to it. There are some small things that really stick out. Hitting the camera button gets you right into a camera and ready to snap a picture right away, no bullshit waiting. The live tiles are quick and simple ways to get the information I like. It just seems like it has taken the positives from iOS and Android and made a solid, cohesive, and consistent OS that feels more polished than the Android OS. I think the Mango update coming in the fall is really going to really make that whole platform shine. If Ice Cream Sandwich is as big a clunker as Gingerbread has been for me, and Verizon gets a few more WP7 options, I have no problem ditching Android for a WP7 phone.

IE9 is dog slow and I've reverted at least a dozen users, who regretted doing the update. More than half of them thought that the issue was a slow network connection.

Slow compared to what? I haven't noticed any speed decline vs. IE8.
