The first link has $50 helmets meeting the highest standard. The more expensive helmets are usually more expensive because of, sponsorships, aerodynamics, graphics, bells and whistles, comfort, quietness, and people who believe "$100 dollar head, $100 helmet".

There's nothing wrong with spending good money on whatever you like. Everybody does it. But, paying more doesn't always mean you're getting the safest product.
I totally agree I don't want to pay for graphics or any of that other bs, always said that. And I have, until now, used the plastic helmets. That is some interesting information though. Until someone explained the material of the helmet to me - plastic vs. fiberglass, there had never been any reason I didn't buy the inexpensive over the way more expensive helmet. But I will definitely keep that in mind, literally, when I buy my next helmet. Another fine debate - how often to replace, I say every 2 years other people think a helmet is a one time investment.
