Both 07's.

My take:

FZ1
Rather anemic off the bottom, power turns on around 6K (must be a Yamaha thing?) and the power REALLY comes on. Ergos not as good, I just couldn't get comfortable on it. Wind protection was marginal, not as good as the bandit IMO. Also cruise comfortably, but required more shifting due to lack of low end. He's averaging high 30's to low 40's for mileage with a similar riding style.
With that i got into the high 11's on the track, never really nailed the take off though.

FYI I was running 11 flats on my buell.

Hope that helps.

THe stock gearing on the FZ1 is the culprit here. As simple as dropping the front sproket -1 to a 16 tooth makes a big difference in the bottom and mid-range. Adding a PCIII, slipon and a few other mods wakes up the motor a lot. I average around 35mpg back and forth to work but have a lot of lights once I get in town. I can get 40mpg riding a spirited pace on the back roads where I not in traffic.
With the 16 tooth sprocket I can putt around in traffic at 40 mph in 6th gear if I want.

I'm sure a few aftermarket goodies would really help both of these bikes, but I compared them both stock to stock.
