I use it, and it works great. When I see a gap in the thread, it is no big deal because I know they have nothing useful to contribute.

I don't use the ignore feature....I read it all...the good, the bad...and often the just plain ridiculous.

I personally don't put much stock into what anybody types on the internets. But, if you are constantly being berated by the same individual (s), I could see it being useful. Shit would get old quick, methinks.
