the main compartment expands not just the side, and the tank bag works fine, the nice thing is its comfy to lay on

could you fit a 17" laptop in the tail bag you have? that's gonna be the deciding factor for me.

oh... and where did you get your tank bag again? I thought you said Iron Pony but it's not on their site

they come with rain covers... but you can always just pack your shit in a garbage bag
