Oy Vey.

First off, if you want to secede, you don't ask the White House for permission.

Second- Have any of these idiots actually considered what a succession would entail?

OK Texas, ( I'm picking on Texas because they keep talking about this) here's the deal:

Step One: All Federal financial support ends now. Goodbye SS, Medicare, Highway funding, corporate subsidies (including agriculture) and everything else.

Step Two: No more FBI, Disaster relief, or Coast Guard. Fuck you, buy your own boats.

Step Three: Immediate closure of all US Military bases. All troops will be redeployed to AMERICA.

Step Four: The immediate termination of all Federal land grants and Oil Leases. Feel free to drill all you want on private property.

I could go on, but at this point Texas would be entirely fucked anyway.

It will be interesting to see if the WH even addresses it... or the pot one... which BTW, has almost 2x as many e-signatures that is needed for them to 'review' it...

That's fine, what's paid for STAYS and is maintained by the independent sovereign "state" of TX. Since Texans paid the federal taxes they are entitled to the roads as well as the equipment IN Texas used to maintain them. They will however have to pay TEXANS who want to be there to maintain them with the NEW Texas taxes

Step Two: No more FBI, Disaster relief, or Coast Guard. Fuck you, buy your own boats.

Not quite...as said above, what's PAID for by Texans in federal taxes has paid for the boats. However, from this point forward Texas would be required to MAN the boats, and maintain them, however.... Texans paid taxes to HAVE the boats. The FBI can GTFO and STAY out

Step Three: Immediate closure of all US Military bases. All troops will be redeployed to AMERICA.

As stated in both previous statements. The TROOPS need to GTFO of Texas, but the BASE and all of the equipment/weapons were purchased with money TEXANS paid, so it shall remain in Texas

Step Four: The immediate termination of all Federal land grants and Oil Leases. Feel free to drill all you want on private property.

Nothing goes in OR OUT of Texas...Agreed!

I could go on, but at this point Texas would be entirely fucked anyway.

OR they could end up just fine on their own and have more than Mexicans swarming over their walls.

Sorry Troy, but "you" don't own shit. American tax dollars from all 50 states paid for that stuff. If you didn't want or need it, you should have stayed in.

As President, I would drop the biggest fucking hammer I could find on you. I'm obligated by oath, to protect my country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

If I were President, I would have no other choice than to make an example of you. Anything else could result in a second civil war, and the country can't afford that bullshit right now.

As the state seceding, you're in a piss poor position to negotiate terms.

There would be no negotiation.....what I stated before would be "assumed Texas'" and everything TAKEN right then and there.

Now..of COURSE this would never work....it's preposterous. But I HAD to at least level the playing field somewhat

Maybe Texas leaving could fix our economy. You might be on to something Paul.

A for effort.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to order the carpet bombing of every square inch of Federal highway in Texas.

Actual Step One - Immediate repayment of their portion of the national debt.

Texas is net positive in simple terms of IRS revenue vs. federal funding, but AMJ is right in that those numbers don't include disaster relief, FBI and military support, etc. No idea where it stands on federal land acreage. That said, even though technically Texas and some other states like California could probably stand on their own, they would be nowhere near as successful as they are now. And how long before they become just another country waiting for a foreign aid check from the US?

States like Louisiana would be straight boned, right out of the gate. Louisiana is in the hole to the federal government by about $10 billion a year.

It's easy to click on an internet petition. Actually going it alone, different matter. Wonder how many of these arm-chair secessionists would still be lining up for independence if the president actually came back and said "Go for it." Wonder how many are currently drawing social security...

If we wanted to be dicks about it, (and why wouldn't we?) we (The Feds) could close all road and rail lines in and out of Texas, and restrict any and all trade with them. We could also impose a travel ban.

I would give them 6 months tops, before they came crawling back.
