Mine are on any time the key is in the on position, even while the starter is cranking, which is why I don't think I'll ever install HIDs on this bike.

You could always wire in a power switch in line. That way you just turn them on after the bike is running.

check out Tripageled.com they make a relay to delay the HID's. I didn't need it on my ZZR as the lights delayed anyways.... but the RR Trip killed his battery numerous times... so I bought the relay to avoid that (he got one too eventually) mine worked great for a while... then boom I had no lights... disconnected the relay... and they worked perfectly.

the relay was fine... just the way we wired them the wires touched and shorted the relay out. oh well.

I think the relay was like $50

Me and Trip have already had this fight but I say again... 3 years and no problems with the HIDs and my battery is the original unit. what was going on with Trip and I don't know where he got his HIDs but DDM swears that their ballast only draws 6 amps during start up which is actually LESS than some aftermarket halogens. Especially those with the higher lumen/wattage ratings.

Maybe Honda uses a crap stator. I have my Power Commander, HIDs, LEDs, J&M Integrator, Valentine 1, alarm, phone charger, and my GPS hooked up to my bike and I have never had a problem.

Well I thought current draw (amps) was calcuated by dividing the watts output by the voltage. So if I have a standard 55w halogen, divide that by 12V and that's 4.6 amps continuous draw. Right?

Thanks for the links on the relay ebbs..

If this HID is really only 6 amps startup.......then I probably wouldn't need the relay........But I dunno, seems hard to believe.

Oh and then they drop to 3.4 amps, I think... Heck, I ran 100w bulbs on my '03 without incident... In fact, no bs but I haven't even bought a bike battery for at least 15 years, I don't think. Of course, I've only owned Yamaha and Suzuki in that time frame so...

I think my HD is the same way. Want to double check it.

I'm calling ddm monday.

I was told by a guy I know that sells HIDs, that he use to sell the same black digital ballast versions that ddm does. But he had problems with them. So he sells a different brand that has a silver digital ballast. Not sure what that is about. Plan on asking him and ddm.

oh i know... I used the relay for a while but tossed it shortly after the rally as it shorted out... ran the HID's longer with out the relay than with.

I'll not have a relay on the DRZ
