Default Throttle Lock

This unit is supposed to work excellent! I had forgotten about it and was just reminded recently by the fairing thread.

I have been thinking about getting something for the trip next month. I wa sleaning towards one of those paddle type devices, a few friends used them and said they were good and aerostich has them for like 10 bucks.

Hey I've seen those before... Mama Rae says they don't work... I'm secretely hoping to get the chance to take a look at hers and see if I can determine what's wrong with it. She's apparently had a "professional mechanic" look at it...

Just by the photo above, I can guess at the "real problem" - her throttle grip is not really well affixed to the throttle tube (i.e. the throttlemeister grips the rubber, but the spring on the throttle cable is twisting the tube closed anyways). I'd bet if she used a generous portion of grip glue to adhere the grip to the tube, properly adjusted the spacing on the throttlemeister, she'd have no problems at all.

Proper spacing for Throttlemeisters:

1) Set the throttlemeister at "half way" out
2) Loosen the entire throttle grip assembly from the handlebar so that it can slide
[sometimes this can't be done - there's a washer/shim trick if this is the case]
3) Tighten the retaining screw for the throttlemeister down (you did remember the BLUE loctite, didn't you?)
4) Slide/reorient the throttle assembly so that its rotation is corrent
5) Move the throttle assembly so that there is just light contact pressure between the rubber grip and the throttlemeister.
6) Tighten the throttle assembly down firmly
7) Test on an EMPTY stretch of road / very long industrial parking lot.

Almost forgot. If you use grip glue, you'll want to ensure that you move quickly. The stuff sets up very very fast. There are tricks to get a tight fitting grip to slide onto the tube.

(Cut it out, you preverts... Save the "jokes" for another section/post... )

Also, as a test for the above setup, use a spring or high quality worm clamp on the end of the tube near the throttlemeister. DO be very careful not to overtighten the clamp and crack the throttle tube.
