Default Electric gauges

I figure that this is some kind of a long shot, but I'll touch off this powder charge anyway. Has anyone ever tried to rebuild a failed electric gauge? i.e. rewrapping the thermal coil on an oil pressure gauge or a fuel gauge. If anybody knows something or has experience, I'd love to hear it.
