Um...I'd say most who haven't served are been close to military life would pronounce it the same.
"corpsman" "corps"+"man" Even if you are an avid reader, if you do not hear the word often you will go with what appears to be the natural sounding of the word. ...on second thought, I could have sworn I heard him say properly in previous footage. whatever...I hate teleprompterbama. Much prefer it when he speaks freely. |

Texans would have pronounced it properly but with a long drawl, almost one syllable. Rednecks woulda made it 4 syllables.
You know everyone misspeaks. Especially when you spend ten hours a day talking in front of the press knowing the whole nation is watching. It happens to presidents and politicians, it even happens to smart people too!

It's likely that he hears (and says) the term more frequently than corpsman.
I'm not sticking up for him in this case because he should know better, but I can understand why it happened. |
