What, a nine dollar hover-craft was unreliable?

Those things weren't nine dollars. They were like 50-70 bucks when they came out.

worked great for me, lasted a long time too, a few years, just had to keep a fresh layer of duct tape as a wear strip on the skirt or it wouldn't glide right

And the battery would last 10 minutes if you were lucky.

Yeah, kind of like the Air Hogs Storm Launcher of recent. I've seen vids and reviews from people who are veteran RC folks, but as a beginner, I got a bit over-zealous and crashed it hard after about 4 flights. The battery didn't last long at all, so I just tossed it, rather than trying to repair it. I've thought about getting another one, along with a second or third battery, but I'd have to make sure to temper my ego and keep it in beginner mode for a LONG time. I'm not sure I'm patient enough for that.

Which means they were making the thing for nine dollars.

You suck at capitalism.

I had one that worked great for a long time. Then I started hitting jumps with it like they do in the commercials and the tracks started falling off. Of course the Battery Door got the Duct Tape treatment as well. Then the Scorcher came out and people started arguing over which was faster

I had this one. It worked AWESOME. It would shoot the same distance no matter how many times it was pumped. It had one problem though...It came with a big warning on it that you absolutely could not leave pressure in it without firing it. I brought it to the beach one day and forgot I had left pressure in it. A huge BANG came out of the inside of it and it never worked again...
