Default Battery help? (maybe)

alright so here is the issue. My bike hasn't been running the greatest, the other day it died when I stopped for a minute, but it started right back up but needed a little throttle to get her smooth.

next symptom, i have a second headlight wired up on my FZ and when I pull in the clutch the one headlight dims almost to off and as soon as I put load on it again it brightens back up.

So thinking that since the battery is 4 years old I go and check the voltage across the leads to my battery tender connector being that it is wired straight to the battery....0V. So do I have to have the battery disconnected to get voltage across it??? I can't think of a reason except maybe the starter coil why it would be 0V.

thoughts?

it sounds like you need a new battery, and to check for shorts in your wiring.

ya, well here's the answer:

First, had a blown fuse in my tender cable. And apparently a bad connection somewher in the headlight/heated grip circuit. Snugged all up and taped over each connection to make sure they don't vibrate loose. Seemed to solve the headlight problem.

Also the standing state of the battery was 12.78 volts which is good. But probably needs to be replaced anyway.

Well I thought about that but that is run off the NOS tank under the seat. I can grill really fast.

The battery is 4 years old, I know it is about done.
