Cutty72 07-21-2008 10:40 PM

what holds on the exhaust slider? just pressure? wouldn't it slide off if you crashed were sliding etc?

It's mounted to a hose clamp.

There's a local dude named Roberto who does fantastic work. My buddy's got some sort of deal with him, so he grabs all our suits at track days and takes them to Roberto, then brings them all to the next track days all done.

If you need some repairs you could do the shipping thing though, I'd have to hook you up with his contact info.

Me either... I've got it all done pretty much... just waiting on the painter.

It's a big worm-drive hose clamp, you just tighten the shit out of it. It shouldn't slide off.

Rather, the slider itself IS a hose clamp, sortof.

A couple little updates.

Received and installed the woodcraft 3 piece brake lever that was backordered

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...6/DSC03011.jpg

Threw a Puig black double bubble windscreen on the stock front cowling. Have a clear oem for the race plastics. No switching necessary now.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...6/DSC03013.jpg

Threw on the new pazzo clutch lever, will keep the rashed one as a spare

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...6/DSC03015.jpg

Threw on a fresh set of stompgrips

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...6/DSC03061.jpg

Put most of the stock fairings and lights back on... now I'm just waiting for some things to come back from paint and I'm good to go. The painter has been really busy...

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...6/DSC03016.jpg

He has both my fenders... would anyone ride without one? I am thinking sand/rocks/debris would put lots of little nicks in the fork tubes which would then degrade and eventually ruin the fork seals. Thoughts? It seems like a silly thing to keep me from riding, but I'm not in a terrible rush and don't want to fuck up my forks...

One thing's for sure... for the next set of trackdays... she's gonna be looking sick ;)

Dnyce 07-23-2008 11:34 AM

id be more concerned about fucking up the radiator. dont think it would hurt the forks really, being on the opposite sides of the tire, but everything the tire hits gets shot into the radiator without the fender i think....plus it looks weird

are those stomp grips black, or thats the color of the bike showing thru clear stompgrip?

r!der 07-23-2008 11:57 AM

Yeah the radiator is a valid concern as well.

The issue with the forks is a car in front of you kicking up little pebbles and shit, if they nick the fork tubes your forks are toast.

Yes, this set of stompgrips is black, not seethru.

True... but do I want to disassemble and rebuild my forks before the next track days because I wouldn't sacrifice a week of street riding?...

I think you have a valid point but considering how many different bikes travel the roads with out any protection in the first place... HEY,do you have any of those wrap around beer cozys laying around your house or something to put on the exposed part of the forks with zip ties?

anything can happen-its only a week...thats almost over anyway. just wait. track beats street anyday, spend this week checking over everything, u just did one or two trackdays after putting it back together. make sure all that shit is clean and tite. then ballz out at trackday with new paint. :dthumb:

Gas Man 07-26-2008 08:35 AM

A week? Who's doing the work, Eurore? Could tear the forks off the front of the bike in a matter of mins... completely break them down in about an hour... then put them back together (need a fork seal pounder) and poof... done! Include lunch break, and drinks break... half a day.

no1 said it would take a week to fix i dont think.
half a day for usd forks? need more than a seal pounder buddy, and i think u got chop on the brain anyway. this is a r6

I was thinking about those... doesn't matter now though... I found out you need a fender to pass inspection and my bike needs a sticker.

Really it's not a big deal, I'm not losing sleep over it. It looks like I'll be back on two these weekend, on the street... for the first time in quite a while.

I haven't really thought about it... but I would have to get my PCIII retuned to run race gas. So at least in the beginning, I doubt it.

I'm picking all the plastics up tomorrow night. I can't fuckin' wait. The street stuff will be on for the week, then I'll throw the track stuff on.

I think I'll try to do the decals on the track stuff next weekend... it needs to be mounted to do it so I'll wait until then.

I'm not racing and will never race, unless I win the lottery. Too expensive. Riding tracks with buds is plenty for me. We still "race" during track days.

i thought u said u were gonna be racing next year, thats how the whole vortex sponsership came about. said u were running mid-pack times...

and i didnt assume either of u meant a full season, just a few races here and there. racing a full season is buttfucking expensive, but one or two races isnt that bad, and worth the experience...and also addicting:dthumb:

I told Vortex that so I would get the sponsorship. I really didn't have to. I do run mid-pack times, but it's too much scrilla to race for my ass. And all 1 or 2 races would do is get my dick hard, it wouldn't bust my nut or anything, know what I mean? If I was gonna race, I would want to race in as many races as possible.

Mr Lefty 07-31-2008 10:07 PM

I can't say what i get out of the sponsorship (it's in the contract). I don't think they'll pull it, there's other dudes on the local forum that got sponsored too and they're no way near as fast as me nor do they race.

balls deep is the best way-but im assuming the races are at different tracks and shit, didnt know you had that much extra time to do it.

whats your series gonna be like? how many races, what tracks, etc.
rules? novice class, so probably kinda strict...guessing nothin past a pc/pipe, clutch and gearing changes? stock internals, stock head? spec tires or whatever u want?

too bad you're so far, i'd roll to every race. checking split times, seeing where you're better than other riders, where they're better than you, where you're losing time, all that shit. i fucking love racing. period.

Actually there's a neat series up here the LRRS (Loudon road race series) that runs ONLY at NHMS in Loudon, NH. About an hour and twenty minutes... the track I do TDs at all the time.

It's a part of the CCS I think, which means if you want to you can also go to some other tracks and get points for CCS in addition to the ones you got from Loudon. Not sure about all of that though.

There are various classes I can run in, because you want to bump up to amateur fairly soon I think and you need at least 10 races and a good index to do that. At Loudon bigger/faster bikes don't have that much of an advantage because the track is so tight and technical. For example my buddy ran his 600 in the heavyweight superbike class and took a podium I think. Therefore when I get started I will just take a lot of races to get experience. There is supersport (pretty restricted), superbike (less) and then unlimited. There are also weight/displacement classes obviously.

I wish you lived closer too haha... a pit buddy is an invaluable resource. I don't need someone doing split times until I start to get fast though... I'm friggin' slow now.

Typically people run several races a weekend, like 3 or 4.

I think there are 8 race weekends per season roughly.

Dnyce 08-01-2008 01:18 AM

yea, way across the damn country
my homies like to do tracks days, which kickass if you're riding, but after the 1st one, its kinda lame as a spectator.

im too deep into drag racing to try and do both, by the time im good enough to be half ass competitive, dlit will be setting records for amatuers at lvms

load up on the sd cards for your cam, drag dubbs out there

racing both drag and track would be insane... but you should just get a track beater and do a couple TDs... you'll fall in love with turns and end up racing track

Yeah I'm getting to know a LOT of the track regulars/racers/etc the more TDs I do... so I think this one guy and I are going to trade some laps back and forth next TDs and both be filming... we should get some cool footage :D

Oh that's right you picked up that gixxer... be careful... once you do a TD... it's as good as done man. You'll be addicted and you'll be spending money left and right, dreaming about track riding, and be a full fledged addict like me.

I mean look at me... it's almost pathetic how addicted I am. By the end of this season I'll have 15 track days under my belt and I only sat on a bike for the first time in May of last year. And now I'm going to end up racing and bankrupting myself :panic:

ceo012384 08-04-2008 12:48 AM

Friday night I went and picked up all the stuff I had painted. It all came out AWESOME... the match to the OEM metallic black color is excellent.

Here is everything... full set of race plastics, oem mid fairings, airbox cover, intake covers, and fender. The race plastics have number plates with silver pinstriping around them. I got only one number plate on the front because I thought that looked a lot nicer.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03104Large.jpg

Race plastics:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03105Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03112Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03114Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03108Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03122Large.jpg

Since the race plastics are black I trimmed the black border off the red/white replica stripes that will be going on there. They're so large I expect to have some difficulty getting them on anyways, so I figured I might as well cut that part off. I'm going to install them next Saturday when I'm prepping the bike for the track. That will give the paint another week to cure.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03135Large.jpg

I also had the dent in the old tank pulled out and primered. I'll paint this at some point and throw another set of sliders on it to have as a backup.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03109Large.jpg

I also have another fuel pump so I don't have to switch it over. I'll get a keyless gas cap for it probably as well. Anyone know one besides vortex? I've seen those vaporlock and cause a bike to shut off mid-race...

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03133Large.jpg

My spare set of wheels showed up, just as described, just a bit dirty:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03110Large.jpg

Since the super glaze on the workbench was drying, I took some cleaner to them and they came out great. Just a couple tire-change marks, otherwise they're minty fresh:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03136Large.jpg

I installed all the street parts... she looks fucking awesome! Chances are, I'm going to ride with this stuff for the rest of the season, and then pull it all and sell it. The R6 will become track only and I'll start racing in the spring.

Notice the mid fairings (long skinny ones), airbox cover and intake covers are all painted now, instead of grey bare plastic:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03116Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03117Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03119Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03121Large.jpg

Then I took her down the street to put the tires up to street pressures, stopped for a quick photo. She's basically done:

This weekend in preparation for goign up to the track it was finally time to mount up the race plastics for the first time after the paint... stripped off all the street stuff, mounted them up, and WOW am I happy with how they look. Robbie Nigl of Peach Pit, from Canterbury, NH did the paint. Anyone who wants their track plastics done... he's your man.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03141Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03143Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03144Large.jpg

Then I applied the Valencia stripe decals... took me about 3 hours doing it very carefully. Soapy water, squeegee out the bubbles, a little heat, more squeegee, trimming the odd shapes of the fairings with an exacto knife... very OCD process, which is probably which I was able to get them to go on so nicely ;)

Here she is... DONE.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03147Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03148Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03149Large.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...03150Large.jpg

After that, I went up to watch the races on sunday and had track days monday and tuesday. I felt like I had a couple of 'off' days, but hopefully I'll still be able to get a hold of some decent track photos with the new paint.

Bike = complete for now. Well, except for the red numbers that I'm planning to throw on there this winter... ;)

I was think'n the same thing... I think the number plates are what throw's it off... maybe if they were bordered in red instead of gray? :idk:

other than that Awesome

I think it's the yamaha on the front too and then being so empty on the rest of the fairing. Eck, the nascar scheme designer in me is coming back out, must suppress.

How did I miss you getting pit bull stands, you were such the pit bull nazi back on TWF. You were all about the t-rex stands and criticized us pit bull owners.

looks like i should have taken you up on that offer so your stickers didn't go on crooked and misaligned you jack ass hahahaha

Thanks dude. And nah I'm not fast enough to need that shit. The main thing I need now is a damper. There are parts of the track where I've always gotten shake but it's not a big deal. As I get quicker there is a section where I'm way fucking forward on the bike and still getting some nasty headshake. I need an ohlins damper...

How did I miss you getting pit bull stands, you were such the pit bull nazi back on TWF. You were all about the t-rex stands and criticized us pit bull owners.

The fairings could have plenty of shit there but I am not putting stickers on unless someone is giving me parts/tires/money/discounts/etc... we'll see what happens in the future.

I still think trex's are the best for the money. I sold mine to mondo because he needed a set. I'm going to be using warmers and putting the bike up and down on stands many times a day... figured I'd be a baller and upgrade.

Amateur: yellow plates, black numbers
Expert: white plates, black numbers

They're perfect, like everything else I do.

Amber Lamps 08-17-2008 11:16 AM

Hey why don't you take a few days off and come help me put my bike back together? I'm buying the beer and the new crop of targets,I mean students have just arrived at ECU......

Dnyce 08-17-2008 04:20 PM

looks good...im with trip on the stripe, looks kinda afterthoughtish. mostly the piece on the tail just looks weird to me.

still looks badass tho, hope u go with some old skool style font 4the numbers, instead of a simple normal block font.

kinda surprised u dont have a dampner already-u mite not be fast enough for susp yet, but susp could help u get faster....think about that lol

The tail piece is there because it's from this:

and compare to this:

Anyways, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

A steering damper and probably a gearing change (stock gearing is silly at loudon) over the winter are the only mods in the near future. And bumping to DOT race tires when the corsa IIIs are done and throwing a set of rains on the spare wheels.

JoJoYZF 08-20-2008 04:46 PM

So when you start racing next year, are you gonna be done on the street completely or you still gonna swap back and forth?

marko138 08-20-2008 04:46 PM

I like the stripe man. Looks good.

I'll be getting a motard for the street and a truck in the beginning of next year. The R6 will be track-only.

Looks like I'm going to be doing some or hopefully all of my safety wiring on the bike this weekend.

I don't have any money until I'm out of grad school. Then I will have plenty, hence getting a truck and another bike in the beginning of next year.

I will be getting a motard because

1. 60-70 miles a gallon.
2. Actually fun to ride on the street.

400sm's get around 40 to 50, less if you mod it or get another more high preformance brand, they also have a small tank. They aren't that much fun commuting/regular street riding because they aren't a very comfortable ride. It's mostly just made to go be a hooligan on.

i know where its from, but if you look at the shape of that tail, and the shape of your tail, its a different shape. thats why the same stripe on your tail looks off to me. doesnt flow like the white bike does.

its your bike, and u like it, so it dont matter anyway, just making an observation.

looking 4ward to lots of footage of u racing next year too :dthumb:

exactly... now if the colors were reversed... white blocks outlined by red.. that'd be pimp.

but yeah... your bike... as long as you like it... fuck everyone else

quote of the night, who gives a fuck what everyone else thinks, do whatever the fuck you want to make your bike look the way you want. If you want a 6 foot swingarm, buy yourself a 6 foot swingarm. I listened to a lot of opinions with my SV and quickly learned I didn't like the bike, so I did it my way and ended up with a badass SV in my opinion. I hated the parts of the bike that I took advice on.

Mr Lefty 08-20-2008 09:01 PM

your SV was a POS

how many miles do you even have on that bike? Out of all the places the military could send you, they really fucked you over motorcycle wise by putting you in alaska.

Mr Lefty 08-20-2008 09:17 PM

6k or there abouts... but not bad considering I only got about 2 months of riding time total in AK... and it only had 618 miles when I got it.

funny thing is I should double the milage with this trip to Indy

I looked at those, but the maintenance is more of a factor. The 690SMC is far more streetable but also expensive.

I think the slowtard (drz) will be what I get.
