Gas Man 03-13-2009 09:36 PM

OK you little whinny bitches... I was going to tell you tonight anyway....

OK... guys... well I closed the loan and signed the papers on the bikes today.

When we went the other week to look at the various bikes there, Uma got to trying on different bikes. She realized she really likes the smallness of the sporty. But would love a change. So I got thinking more...

I would like to have a new project and something more practical. I like baggers and they are the "new" choppers.

Plus side... she's getting the UBER cool 2009 Nightster 1200 with silver/black denim. No pics of HER bike cause its got to be dealer traded in and it wasn't in yet, the guys were still on the road with it, I guess it came out of southern ohio.
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload...XL1200N_01.jpg

I like the Nightster and it will probably also, when the wife's not around or riding it, be my small bike for around town.

They got my bike in the other day and the mechanic just got done going over it again (last dealership mechanic did as well, so that's 2 mechanics going over it which I like).

I like the look of the street glides but want the usefullness of a tour bag/trunk. Also, like the spot lights on the front. Hate the tall windshield on the Ultra. Like the usefullness and protection of the side bag bars. Like the lower fairing. Like the Ultra wheels over the Honda look Street Glide wheels. So already have the kit to make the trunk detachable, a short 4" black windshield and a bunch more extras.

So a 2009 HD Ultra Classic that once I'm done will be more like a "Street Classic"... Black Pearl with looks like a gun metal gray but because its a pearl it looks black then gray... its great. I've included with and w/o flash to help show the difference in the paint.

Will get real pics of the wife's nightster either Sat or maybe Sun when we pick them up. Then let the mods go on...

So what ya guys think?

And see Fat... its TRUNKED!!! Feel free to us my trunk on future TRUNKS!!

Trip 03-13-2009 09:42 PM

Nice he can trunk it more

rogue 03-13-2009 09:45 PM

Nice!

That's the first time I've seen a pic of the Nightster. That's a sweet looking bike!

Congrats and may both of you have many fun miles on them! :D

Porkchop 03-13-2009 09:53 PM

That is ALOT of fucking bike..... better not drop it or you might need a small crane to get it back right.

The color is nice, seat looks way comfortable, and the brake "pedal" is funny.

Uma's bike is sick! :rockwoot:

zed 03-13-2009 10:13 PM

nice bikes

but what happened to the guy that was happy to see another Kawasaki rider when I joined the other forum?

Gas Man 03-13-2009 10:15 PM

Hey... people change.

Dnyce 03-13-2009 10:16 PM

cool, the baggers are kinda like the choppers of a few years ago, my pops has painted a ton of em

Cutty72 03-13-2009 10:19 PM

Sweet rides Gman.
Didn't think you were that "touring" so I stayed away from the Classics

Looks great though, my friends dad has an anny edition Ultra Classic, and it's pretty cool... he even let me sit on it once

Gas Man 03-13-2009 10:31 PM

Well as i said... I will be doing some things... got Screamin Eagle pipes on order, new short black windshield, detach kit to loose the trunk for normal around the town riding but will still have it for a trip or if just needed, shorty ants, removing the fender bumpers, smoking out the blinkers and fender lights, and some functional things as well.

I really like the pic of Uma's bike... your's ehh... I respect them... but those big harleys do nothing for me... :idk:

but hey bro... if it keeps you in the seat rather than on your knees...wrench'n I mean... then it's a good bike

You just covered my exact thoughts.

Gas Man 03-13-2009 10:47 PM

I'll make it cool boys... don't worry... or I'll just laugh at you while i'm on the highway with cruise control relaxing... oh and jamming to some tunes

Im sure once youre done with it itll be more badass, but the stock pics just look like an old man bike to me.

Gas Man 03-13-2009 10:52 PM

Well out of the box it kinda is...

For you sportbike peeps... it may never be much more...

It will be a cross from above to this

http://motoaus.com/images/stories/ha...reet-glide.jpg

But with the lower fairings, spot lights, and better looking wheels IMO...

JoJoYZF 03-13-2009 10:55 PM

Thats not nearly as bad. I could live with something like that.

Mr Lefty 03-13-2009 10:55 PM

like I said... hope it keeps you riding more than wrench'n... but it just doesn't do anything for me...

Uma's bike looks sick though... what are your plans for that?

Gas Man 03-13-2009 10:56 PM

Uma's bike will get pipes, engine gaurd, seat, tach... basically the same thing she had on her old one.

Cutty72 03-13-2009 10:58 PM

By riding time I should have cruise control and tunes too... what's your point?

Throttlemeiser and Ipod FTW!!!

Amber Lamps 03-13-2009 10:59 PM

Ha I was kinda right,I just don't know the models that well... A full bagger for you and a 1200 Sportster for Uma that you can ride as well. Good choices,Bro!

:idk: eh same diff.

My Ipod was free, so I'm not complaining.

So who's got a website that sells throttlemeister bar end cruise cheap?

Mr Lefty 03-13-2009 11:04 PM

my throttle lock sucked ass... Rae had the throttlemister and it wouldn't work for shit for her either... :idk:

I may still get one... if only for a 2-3 min break for my wrist... but not to use as a true cruise control... nothing is a substitute for electronic cruise control

Yeah, but you had a gay ass one.
I'm looking at the bar end cruise. I believe it was Jtemple that has one and said it worked wonders.
All the buell guys say it works great on the 1125.

See... there's your problem.
You took advice from Drewpy...

And Rae is probalby just too short to reach the bar end while riding

Amber Lamps 03-13-2009 11:33 PM

No,no,no! The throttle meister is 100% dependent on installation (sorry Rae) if it doesn't work,I guarantee it's the install. I've had it on every bike since 1995.

I've installed a lot of Throttlemeisters (> 20 sets, mostly on BMWs). There is a 'trick' to getting the adjustment right. The primary cluprit for difficulty in operation is usually traceable to properly cutting out the end of the grip rubber to clear the attachment point. The other problem(s) for most of the installs is either in not cleaning out the inside of the open bar end or overtightening the adapter/insert into the end of the handlebar. If you have threaded bar ends, the adjustment is by moving the throttle tube assembly.

I've had 100% success in installing these and having happy users...

YMMV (and apparently has).

< / Thread Highjack >

The Ultra Classic is a great bike! :rockwoot:

I've only had a few miles to ride one, but its comfortable and a lot more capable than most people think. Congrats! I've come close a few times to buying a Sportster 1200, also an excellent choice. :)

Yep,in fact I had to buy a new throttle tube for this bike because I had cut the tube too short at first.

Exactly... its the real deal... the other shit is imitation.

I know its not the cup of tea here... but then we also have the nightster which is more inline... so its all good.

I'm not much of a cruiser person, even though I started out on one, but the more I see pics of the wife's new bike, the more I'm digging it! Very sporty looking for a cruiser and that's what really appeals to me.

You'll have to let us know how well it performs when you get a chance to ride it! :D

itgirl 03-15-2009 08:34 AM

nice choices Gasman!! i am anxious to see what you do to the nightster. Uma will love it! it's so fun to ride. i think i may even prefer it over my 636...shhh! she needs some drag bars and VH sideshots for it though. then it'll be cool. ;) you're officially a HOG member now. there's no turning back.

Well that's why I guessed the Road King and a regular Sportster 1200... he faked the criteria. He said that he wanted to get bothbikes with his trade in money free and clear,it's none of my business but I doubt he got both those bikes F&C for what he told us he got in trade...but :idk:

Gas Man 03-15-2009 04:25 PM

Not F&C... like all things in life... want in one, and especially now a days... shit in the other!

Itgirl... I knew you would like them. We don't have bigger plans for her sporty as of yet. We got ALLOT going on this year with money out so we need some time to regroup. Just booked a vacay for mexico, and obviously all the home improvements... we have been spending like its money is going out of style...

She will get everything she had on her sporty on her nightster. The biggest difference is the uber cool new look and about 45% more power. I pick it up Tuesday and I'm excited to get it in the garage as well!!!

Now, I picked up the UC today... rode it to work where I'm at now... and OH BOY... let me tell you... ITS FUCKIN NICE!!! The tunes are awesome and while its not fast its not as slow as I was expecting. Plus... Tigger can verify that michigan roads this time of the year are SHIT!! But when I'm on that... its "What pot holes? I didn't feel no pot holes!"

marko138 03-16-2009 08:59 AM

No one can say Gas Man isn't doing his part to fix the economy.

Rider 03-16-2009 09:00 AM

A full dresser? :panic: I'm nothing short of disappointed. Glad you got what you want though. At least it has 2 wheels and not 3.

z06boy 03-16-2009 09:46 AM

Congrats on your new rides and to each their own. I'm just not into the full dressers. I loved the Big Dog...I used to have one and I enjoyed riding it alot.

If I'm going to ride something that big I'll just take the Vette.

I have ridden a newer Honda Goldwing and that was a nice bike I have to admit...just not my style.

Put 50 miles on the wife's nightster today after picking it up...

And let me tell ya...

Before I even left the parking lot I knew it would be fun! Got onto Telegraph Rd... whipped the throttle open pretty good... OH BOY!! Its small, v-twin, and fast. 20# lighter than her 883 and up from 55# torque to 79#. Can't WAIT to get the SE mufflers on it so I can hear it more!

But those are V&H and I'll never own another set of V&H!

Rode again today... only about 50 miles and hit a little rain in my travels. Never felt a drop on the UC but the bike itself is good n dirty... oh well... will just give her a bath in the next couple days...

Also, starting working on the nightster tonight... got some of the stuff on it. Pipes are on and oh my... they sound even better on this version.

You know someone with 20 years experience installing throttlemeisters and he couldn't get it right? Maybe he should look into another business...J/k

Well,I'll look at it during the rally if you want and I'll try to remember to bring some of the spacers, etc that come with it. There's an art to it,mine works perfect.

I did some things to the Nightster the other day but haven't got the pics of it, cause I hit a road block... will get to that later once I get the new part.

So after a bike wash... I got the UC on the lift...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods012.jpg

Got the parts setup to go on... all kinds of stuff... the big box on the far right is all the parts for the trunk detach kit... I'm sure that will take some time to put on...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods008.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods009.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods010.jpg

New oil temp and level dipstick. Pretty slick dilly... all digital, tells you the oil temp and level. It even adjusts the level for the oil temp.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods013.jpg

I don't like the orange lenses on the front...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods014.jpg

So switch out the bulbs for the orange ones, and put on the smoked lens covers. Also, swapped out the front fender light bulb for a LED and a smoked lens there as well. Then ditched the front fender bumper. Bumpers belong on cars not on bikes!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods017.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods018.jpg

Then carry that same theme to the rear. I don't like the orange in the rear. Always preferred the side lights to double as parking/brake lights as well as blinkers.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods023a.jpg

So I took off the seat to install the relay for the light change
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods020.jpg

Then here's the newer lens look
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods026a.jpg

Then I pealed off the stock pipes and put on the new Screamin Eagle II slip on mufflers... also in this pic you can see the removed rear fender bumper
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods040a.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods041a.jpg

Now onto some comfort/function features...

Put on a set of side bags. An easy grab bottle and some on the road access bags. May see if I can get cd's into the one larger bag... you would be surprised how quickly I get bored of one cd.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods043.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods044.jpg

Some new long angled highway pegs
Left
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods028.jpg

Right
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods032.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods035.jpg

That's it for now, still have some more things to put on tomry as well to tackle the big box of goodies for the trunk detach kit....

Quick281 03-23-2009 02:26 AM

Looking good Gasman but I am sorry I can't give you any sympathy for getting tired of a cd during a ride.

Gas Man 03-23-2009 03:44 AM

Well I just found out that the CD player also plays MP3... so hello 150 songs per cd!!!

wildchild 03-23-2009 09:42 AM

Let me know how you like the SE pipes. I thought about putting them on mine as well. Not interested in switching fuel maps and all the jazz with other pipes. Besides I don't like the crazy loud noise out of some pipes, just looking for something with a little menace in it's voice.

marko138 03-23-2009 10:24 AM

Looking good Gas.

Will do. I will say this... the volume increase is not as much as it was on the nightster pipe change. They are the same line of pipes but where the nightster had little noise, the bagger had some decent HD sound on the stockers.

You got that thing out of the garage yet? You need to ride it down for the rally, if not just to get away for a few days and hang out with us lot.

Appreciate it man. You are a good guy regardless of what Marko says about ya.

I decided that a busy guy keeps said guy's mind sharp... aka... I just wanted to keep my mind on other things that bring me joy.

So I had a few mins and tore into the front fairing to add in the electical for the light bar.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods046.jpg

So buttoned it all up, with the new light bar, the 4" shorty black windshield and a 2 pocket setup to boot.

derf 03-24-2009 01:09 AM

Yellow lights make it look like a taxi bike

I actually like it, If i ever wind up going to the dark side thats pretty much the bike that i want, and if I ever go back to the stan and the stars align I might just do that cuz the prices on HD there are incredible.

derf 03-24-2009 02:31 AM

Honda shadow, I ve put many thousands of miles on an old one that I used to run on. I would love to have one again.

But back in jan the price on street glide from kuwait was something rediculous in the range of 15k, with no other fees or taxes added

Gas Man 03-24-2009 05:23 AM

taxi cab bike... sure I'd buy that for a buck... taxi cab for HOWT chicks! Got the spare helmet in the side bag!! :dthumb:

marko138 03-24-2009 08:55 AM

Gas, I was at the dealer yesterday and saw a 36,000 dollar UC. WTF? That was a pricey bike...but was damn good looking.

That was a CVO version probably with the SE 110 CI motor in it. That is the only version that is more than mine in the HD line. Biggest problem there is that they have been having oil problems and therefor over heating probelms with the 110.

ceo... that is true on both counts!

ive ridden a shadow, nice bike. think id still rather have the V4 though, if for no other reason than the sound

Gas Man 03-30-2009 10:08 PM

Time to bore you with some BS Harley junk...

Well I been working on the bikes little by little throughout the week with all this family stuff going on.

I had the Nightster on the lift already to start to bolt up the parts from her 883.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods005.jpg

The chrome don't match but got it installed anyway.. a temp gauge
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods013.jpg

Put on the engine bar and highway pegs
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods014.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods010.jpg

Got the tach put on... it was a 2 trip event because the damn 1200 speedo bucket is part of the riser clamps vs the 883s are seperate pieces. So I just ordered a new riser top clamp to finish the job
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods012.jpg

The windshield really kills the looks but its function over form
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods017.jpg

Got the cruiser-mate installed
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods006.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods008.jpg

Pulled the front fork reflectors
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods021.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods023.jpg

Smoked out the front blinkers... looks great with the black pods
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods026.jpg

Then I ordered some 1157 red bulbs on ebay cause I wanted to smoke out the rears... but HD don't sell red 1157's. Also pulled the reflector off the rear fender.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods027.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods029.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods030.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods033.jpg

Then I finished up some stuff on the "Street Classic".

During my few trips to the dealer I decided I wanted to pick up a few things to dress it up.

I picked up the Willie G skull pieces for the gas cap, timing cover, and derby cover
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods058.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods059.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods062.jpg

Gas Man 03-30-2009 10:08 PM

Then worked on the final pieces... I tell ya while HD directions are far superior to many others... this particular mod was complete choas in the directions. I ended up just looking at the parts and pictures and did it on my own.

Pulled the map pocket, liner, tourpack, saddlebags, and seat all out/off.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods064.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods066.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods067.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods069.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods070.jpg

What was left....
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods071.jpg

Then I installed the 2 new fender strut covers, and the quick disconnect adapters. Also the new lisence plate mount
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods072.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods073.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods077a.jpg

Slid the new trunk mount onto the bike
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods079.jpg

And the bike is back to normal
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods083.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods085.jpg

But now its detachable... YEA
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods091.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ic/Mods093.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods097a.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...c/Mods099a.jpg

I'm very happy the way it all turned out... Can't wait to get some miles in now that the family stuff is calming down and hopefully the weather starts to get better.
