Good gawd people!!!
First I must state that the world may be coming to an end fairly soon, Tigger and I are agreeing on yet another topic, altho I am not as forceful as he is by any means. For those of you hating on Icon, please refer back to some of my other posts... In the past ICON was all about flash and appearance, but the R&D they have done in the last few years has upgraded the quality of their gear considerably. I have this first hand from personal experience and also my local Parts Unlimited Rep. Does he need to sell this stuff? Yes, but does he tell it like it is? Most definitely!!! Currently ICON is street gear, and like someone else mentioned, very flashy, but they also have low key stuff. JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER!!! Until you actually try it out and see what its like, dont knock it!! Keep an open mind and stop harassing brands just cuz you dont like how it looks!! At some point in time we all wear something for looks and not performance! And as far as the performance goes, I'll trust ICON with my body and head every day, just like I trust my Joe Rocket gear, my Scorpion, my HJC, etc, etc etc...Yes, I am a Gear whore and I can vouch for the quality of MY ICON gear any day! If you dont like it, dont wear it! But dont knock it till you have the experience to say one way or another! oh yeah, while i am thinking about it, most ALL of the stuff discussed here is made in cookie cutter factories overseas...so whether you think its better or not, its most likely all sewn by the same people in the same areas...you want super high quality, go custom!! |

100% of these jackets are for suckers..... They might offer great protection, but I don't need to be looking like a clown when I roll down the street. Edit: Of course this is my opinion on the mens gear. They make some cool stuff for the ladies though. |

Seriously, would you at least go to Icon's website and look over the entire line up before you pass judgement. Pretty please with sugar on it?!? |
ICON does not make track appropriate gear. I can't trust something on the street that can't be track approved... for a few reasons. First of all, it doesn't make financial sense for me to have two wardrobes... one for street and one for track. Second, if I can't trust it on the track... it's not worth it.

But, I will say it is for the *pretty* factor, not a protection issue. Street plastics generally have the same protection as track - possibly better in the cases of Godfather and similar where they shatter on impact. I don't know many that buy gear for that attractive factor ;) |

Which a lot of Icons stuff could improve if they got rid of the patches. |

I might have to retract my love of Teknic. I got the Chicane pants from Newenough.com and the front of the crotch started to tear at the seems. My mom knows how to sew well so I can get her to fix it. But if I were to get pants again I'm not to sure on the Teknic. Of course the "Sport" or the higher end Teknics might be better but sharing my experience.
Which Teknic fits me well. A lot better than Dainese. |
when did you get them? if it was recently send them back! fuck sew'n up a factory defect...

yeah I saw that he has it over at :twf: (I saw a link that trip posted)
yeah they've changed my password twice... (I have my passwords saved so I don't have to type them in) but didn't change the e-mail address so I can just request a new password... morons... |
Yall should be ashamed of yourselfs thread jacking to talk about :twf:
|
it's more to talk about sbg  but yeah I started a new thread... they change my e-mail account too

as I've said before I have no issue with Icon... the whole argument I was making was that they don't have the track record that some others have.
and they're not my style... for the most part |

when I said track record I didn't mean road track... I just meant reputation.
but it's a moot point... |

Hello all, I figured I would post up in here as there seem to be several ICON fans in here.
I seem to like Icon's stuff, and most of it seems cheaper then the Astar gear that I would really like to get my hands on when I have the money. Have any of you seen the Domain 2 Mechanica in person? I liked the graphics on it on Icon's website but the photos on kneedraggers.com seems to show a much more colorful impression of it. I would like to see it in person, or find first hand pictures of it but I can't seem to find it in stores or on any forums. I don't really know why I like the helmet so much. I was a big fan of the Decay with the skulls and stuff but at this point I figure everyone in my age group will order something cool with skulls on it and I just thought I would try a different route. I like to think that the white/silver would help with visibility as well. Thanks guys. |
Well, I got my Icon Auto mag leather pants a couple days ago and I have to say....wow! They are Fucking nice! They are ALL black and relax fit with boot cut legs. I will take the look of over the boot against tucked in any day!!! Just to be fair,I ordered the A* 's Rodeo jeans. They have removable leg armor which neither Draggin' nor Icon have. We'll see how much I like them when they come in!
Back to the Auto-mags,the leather is very thick and well put together. The legs zip-up to the hip for easy removal. They have a zipper in the back so they will attach to any Icon jacket. BTW they provide you with both sides of the zipper, just in case your jacket didn't come with one. You can have it attached. They have gathered knees and that "spandex" stuff at the back of the knee for breathing and flexibility. Outstanding pants and perfect for street riding and with the CE approved armor,it's my opinion that they'll provide extremely good protection in a crash!! |
i have the icon recon jeans and i like them.. price was good.. never tested them but heard good things.. i know they are better than regular jeans..
|
how do you like that all mesh crotch for extra nutsack cooling and support?
|
It's looking like they are going to be next on my list, thanks for the added word on them.

I saw them in a mag for the first time yesterday, and they had me intrigued. They do have a zipper... that's good, didn't say anything about a zipper... How do they fit? Is there some sort of adjustment in the waist area on 'em? Thinking about these for overpants... Last question, what you pay for 'em and where you get em? thanks. Also, my local dealership just started carrying full line of Icon gear... this is good. Bad thing is they quit carrying Shoei helmets... I really liked my shoei... guess i'll have to buy online now. |
I paid $200 otd. They have a "strap" at the waist. If you want them for overpants. Order your normal waist size,if not go one size smaller.
UPDATE: A* rodeo pants are FUGLY! and they use pads instead of hard armor, which are flat and make you look like you're wearing catcher's shinguards!!! Thanks anyway,I'll just keep dealing with my Icon Field Armor leg guards under my regular jeans!! |

Thanks. |
Good info. Thanks. I, myself am looking into new gear. I don't really have a preference on brands. I (and I know this is a typical girl answer) would like something that would match my jacket or not clash with my bike. My bike is Blue and I would like to find gear that is white, grey, black or blue. I also am tall for a girl and have a 34" inseam. So trying to find riding pants are turning out to be impossible.
I also want to find a new helmet. I am not very informed about them either but between reading online and cutty, I am finding out more and more. |
Great Post.... Would you have any recommendations for me on Riding Pants? I work 22 miles from home. Its half interstate and half county highway driving. I dress business professional everyday so I don't want my dress pants to have the bug guts on them. I am long legged too. So finding pants that aren't up to my knees and still fit my waist is proving difficult when I look at the measuring charts. I am also looking for a new helmet too. However, every helmet that i tried on fits differently. I tried on the same brand as the one I currently have and I take a size smaller. However it fit the same way my current helmet did when i tried it on again.......

Pants depend on how "casual" your work is. If you have to wear suit pants/skirt you can get overpants or change at work. I don't have any experience there. If you can wear jeans, I can vouch for Cortech's Mod Denim. They're great! Bug guts aren't really a problem as most sportbikes have enough fairing to deflect a large amount of air away from your legs. |
