However, older Aprilia RSV Mille wheels fit with minimal effort... and shave off a couple of lbs... If you pay attention, you can get a set shipped from eBay for under $400... that's on the 'down the road' list... though, I'm always on the lookout for a wrecked Busa, TL, or certain SRAD's with light wheels and upgraded forks for cheap... |
Found the vid I've been looking for for awhile now.

Been a while...
Not a lot to report... Tinkered around with the solo seat setup a few times, never got anything to my liking, but I think I got it figured out this weekend... Also, since the last update, I pulled the front brake master and replaced it with one from a Busa - looks way better... replaced the R/R with the MOSFET deal... Finally sorted out the wiring over the weekend as well... re-routing the battery to under the seat... tore apart pretty much the entire wiring harness and rebuilt it... now everything can be hidden behind the frame spars... This weekend I will be hacking/extending the wires to the gauge cluster and the starter relay so they can go where I need them... From there... all I need to do: 1) finish solo seat - thinking thin plastic lining the inside of the subframe (UHMW most likely) as a battery/electronics box... a fitted piece of aluminum on the rear to mount brake lights... and eventually, I'll make a fiberglass fairing of some sort... 2) make a sealed fuse box and mount it where the battery went... 3) brackets to mount the gauges on top of the tank right in front of the steering damper, some to mount the head lights (fog lights) onto the radiator... 4) exhaust mounting brackets... thinking of 1/2" AL that I have laying around, cutting it into 3/4" strips and bending it at the proper angle to use the passenger peg mounts... Not exactly sure how I'm going to go about that though... 5) make the tail lights and signals (acrylic block with LED's mounted inside, should be interesting) From there it will be mobile... Then I need new tires, finish the PAIR valve removal (the guy sealed the vacuum tubes with screws, but I want to do it right with block off plates on the headers), swap chain/sprockets, and make a trick coolant overflow out of an old flask I have laying around... I should be done by... well... let's just hope I finish... |
I feel your pain
|
Oh and I forgot mirrors... prolly bar end ones... not sure... probably forgot a 100 other things too...
Did I mention replacing the chain/sprockets? That's on a list somewhere too... |

Progress...
Today I hacked together some brackets and mounted new headlights: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000809.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000808.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000807.jpg |

After you give me your money... I have a Carbon Fiber wrapped tank, carbon fiber fenders and Performance Machine Chicane wheels. The fairings are beat up from me getting punted by a car, but everything else is great. I dont wanna part it out, but its in Va. and I wont get it here in Michigan till summer.

Rearsets would be tits if the fucking bike wasn't already so hard on my knees... up an inch and back about half that, I'd imagine... Those wheels lighter than stock? In general, I'm on the lookout for: lighter wheels, aftermarket shock, belly pan and brackets, possibly front fender, rearsets that allow me to drop the pegs and draw them forward slightly... maybe an aftermarket steering damper if the deal's right... well, all this shit is if the deal's right LOL |

Did some work...
Used masking tape and cardboard to box in my subframe to make a tray for the ECU and battery out of fiberglass... total hack job: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...P1000803-1.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...P1000804-1.jpg Turned out way better than expected - first fiberglass anything: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000900.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000909.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000908.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000910.jpg I'm going to fill the gaps in on the sides with AL sheet, so you won't see how ugly it is... Also extended five wires in the wiring harness about 18 inches, to allow for the gauge cluster mounting I want... Here it is set up, but it'll be up on the tank a bit more and the angle is off... it's just resting there: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000918.jpg Couldn't resist snapping some shots of her all mocked up: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000913.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000912.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1000911.jpg |
Looks a whole lot lighter and better
|
Looks like it wants to be rocked. Can't wait to see the finished product.
|
Got out of work early... Did some work... Finalized the wiring runs and mapped out my exhaust hangers... Sorta figured out how I'm gonna mount the gauges.
So, I've come to the conclusion that wiring and running wires can suck my sweaty asshole... It took me FOREVER to figure out how to run everything so it wouldn't pinch or rub or burn and shit... Still not convinced I didn't fuck it up... I'm sure I'll find out a hundred or so miles from home. I get it now... Why all the streetfighter guys start with old bikes... carbs... Air cooled... My next build... If I live through this one... Is certainly going to be something older and less electronically dependant. |

Yeah, it's crazy the stupid amount of wiring in a modern motorcycle...

Until I have the money to be pissing around with some different options and paying for dyno tuning, they'll stay long and strong. That said, I'd love to rock something like this, perhaps in a high mount: http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/a...0185Medium.jpg http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/a...0186Medium.jpg |
Also looking at airbox mods currently... breathing is a big problem for these things, so I'm investigating what to do...

I am not sure if the rearsets on the S and R are the same. |

Not sure either, but we both have R's so it wouldn't matter... |

Worked for a few hours last night... didn't get shit done...
Fucked around trying to make exhaust mounts out of some 3/16" AL, but nothing came out to my standards... I think I need to rethink the way I was going about it... Disabled my kickstand switch... the connector came off of the harness in a bad place and kept me from properly stuffing wires... plus the wire coming off the switch didn't have a good place to be ran, so fuck that thing. Bike won't start without the clutch engaged anyway so I'm not too worried. I hate days like this... |
After a long layoff, I actually did a little work last weekend...
Made up a bracket to mount the gauges... I hate it, but it's functional. I'm going to bite the bullet and rivet a bracket directly to the tank. Now, how do you do that without getting a bunch of shavings in the tank? Or how do you get them out aftewards? Tips would be appreciated. I also made the decision to run straight pipes... screwing around with mounting the exhaust, so fuck it. I'll get some slip in baffles and slash cut the ends... there are a number of TL guys who run this setup and say it isn't too bad... As she sits: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1010051.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1010047.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1010049.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...o/P1010050.jpg |
It's shaping up to be pretty interesting.
|
whats the plan for the subframe/rear. going to chop it off?

Nice, it can accentuate the exhaust that way, cans wont be burried among the rear of the bike otherwise

I ran my TLR briefly with the cans off when I was going from stock exhaust to the M4's and woke up everyone in the apartment building surrounding the garage where we were doing the work. ...yeah, it was like 1am.... what of it? :nee: |
Quote:
|
Yeah, I've scoped out a couple of guys who have stock pipes to sell me if I hate it... going to baffle it with an 8" wrapped insert... hopefully it's manageable... Honestly, I can't imagine it would be THAT much worse than with the Yosh's on there...

I think everyone should experience that at least once (being around an engine run without headers) if only to reinforce the concept that "internal combustion" doesn't mean there's a little fire in there... it's little EXPLOSIONS! Quote:
A baffle or two should tame it enough to be bearable, but your neighbors are still going to hate you. |
I hate my neighbors anyway... Well, I dont really know them but they know ONSSP's cousin and won't hang out with us... So fuck them... And their newborn baby... I smell a light night finishing session brewing... Gotta do a test ride sometime...
|
Wait until about 2:30am.
They'll just be hitting REM, it's about 30 minutes before the baby's feeding, and you can come back and catch a few Zzz's before morning, feeling satisfied in knowing that you've thumbed your nose at them in boss-like fashion. |
