Any injuries? |
um failure to control veh. ticket woulda been given to you in TX.
|
How much UNDER the speed limit was the Minivan traveling when it entered your path?
|
and how much OVER were "you" traveling?
|
yeah cause Racer X teaches MSF and knows everything
|
Aw come on guys... she got cut off may mean that the van came in from a side street...

isn't that how it is in your state? you hit the back of a car, it's the rear cars fault? Quote:

Oh, and congratulations on riding so many city miles. That's amazing. |
Sorry you crashed. That sucks.
That is what this thread was about, right? I couldn't tell with the e-pissing contest going on. |

It's not "automatically" your fault, there are possible mitigating circumstances. Um this isn't a single vehicle accident, Bro... I know that sport bikes get into a lot of single vehicle accidents and I've heard the "gravel" excuse plenty of times myself BUT that doesn't mean that every accident, regardless of circumstances is the rider's fault. I just don't appreciate the guilty until proven innocent POV when it comes to sport bike riders. Anyway, I hope that you are all right and that you and your bike are back on the road asap! |
Fuck that..accidents happen. She's up here posting so she's ok.
What can we learn from the accident? What can be shared? I will say whenever I hear someone say they were involved in a motorcycle accident, my first question is "What dumbass thing were you doing?" Minivan cut her off, and she locked up the brakes? What the hell was the speed difference that you locked up the brakes and where the hell was your buffer zone? Where you scanning? Checking cage mirrors as you over taking people? |
Sorry to hear about your spill Zippiechickie. I am always weary of vans/minivans because they have horrible blind spots and are often filled with distracted drivers/kids. Hope you heal up and get your bike fixed and back on the road soon.

I almost got taken out by a lady in a black Sedan DeVille last night. She cut right in front of me while changing lanes without even looking.(parking lot speeds)

Too much jumping to conclusions here, theres not that much detail she gave so its easy to speculate. And like the gravel I will always blame the minivan ;) Tom |

That, and say 10 'Hail Eds', and all will be forgiven, and you will once again be allowed to ride only the way Ed instructs you to. |

How horrible. Accidents suck - hitting objects with your motorcycle sucks - I'm so sorry that happened, and I'm very glad you're alright.
As a tip - when you approach a vehicle that is at a stop perpendicular to your path of travel, watch the vehicle's wheels rather than the entire box. Unless said vehicle has spinners, you will be able to determine if they are rolling much easier than watching the big box. There ARE such things as accidents. It is our own personal responsibility to be able to minimize accidents happening to us by being aware of our surroundings or path of travel; and setting our own pace able to maneuver should something happen. |

Also, try to make "eye contact" with the driver. Slow down if you are unsure that they see you and cover your brakes just in case!!! B I O N, I do this everyday and it has saved my ass many times. |
Sorry to hear, hope you are okay, look at this situation in preparation for future ones.

If it was only your rear tire that locked up (most likely), then try relying on your front brake alot more. Go to a track day and do some braking drills. The front brake will make the bike stand up WAY before the front tire would ever lock up, unless of course there's gravel or an oil spot, which is rare. Keep in mind however that the more front brake you use, the less rear brake you should use, because your weight is transferring to the front and therefore the rear tire can lock up more easily. In the twisties I use the front brake ONLY.
|
that sucks zippie hope you are ok, my first and only stoppie was caused by a dipshit in a minivan not paying attention
|
Always a horrible situation.
I had one merge into me so hard that I had to veer into the oncoming lane and gas it. It was my closest call. This was on a 4 lane crowded bridge during rush hour. Flexin can attest to how dangerous it is. I missed the oncoming car by feet, and I could practically feel her mirror on my shoulder. |

first of all, I am fine. concusion and bruises. i'll live. my bike is fairly lucky also seems to be major cosmetic damage..and that's it (broken left mirror, snapped left footpeg, amputated left turn signal, etc). This is the situation: I was going 40 in a 35..the van was on a sidestreet.. and pulled out as I was about one foot from the sidestreet. I'm well aware I shouldn't have been going 40 in a 35, I should have expected the van to be a douche...If people want to critique my riding skills thats cool, but it's not like i'm saying im perfect and the minivan should get it in the ass...im saying I got in a crash...that's all....
ps thanks for all the good wishes those of you who offered them :) also no, I didn't get any tickets... |

and my plans for the bike are to pick up more hours at work and slowly replace what needs to be replaced...it's gonna take me forever with work and school but at least I rode alot this summer...it'll get there I'll make sure for certain it's mechanically sound and take it from there |
Happy to hear it didn't scare you off.
Get right back on that horse! |
it's gonna take more then that to scare me off...I love riding
|
I remember after my big wreck. I was more pissed that I couldn't ride, than I was about being out a lot of money and full of scars..
|
4o in a 35, you god damned maniac what is wrong with you
At least you prety much walked away from all of it but it does suck having to fix the bike, any shot of insurance kicking in some? Tom |
Zippie, what did the driver of the van say to you in response to the accident/incident?
|
Quote:
|
to be honest the driver didn't say a word to me...i woke up on the pavement with people teling me not to move and first thing i said was MY BIKE!!! actually it was witnesses who told me not to move the driver was parked like off to the side in the distance...w/e but yea haha I was buggin out...she didn't speak a word to me...we both gave our statements to the cop...now I have to wait on what my insurance says but i'm just gonna make myself beleive i have to pay for it all on my own that way if i by chance do get any help from insurance it'll seem like some damn good shit haha
|
It's probably best that you didn't talk to her. Nothing good can come of a conversation with someone who fucked you up.
Glad it wasn't worse. Glad you are willing to get back in the saddle too. :D |
