Why B group sucks

I don't get it? :scratch:

Too much traffic?

Strict passing rules?

Slower riders?

If you're not ready to bump up a class, be the first one on track to get some clean air. :idk:

Sean 09-15-2009 01:55 PM

Does that traffic not seem rediculous to you? Passing 4-5 people a corner and still not seeing green air?

I bumped after that session.

It seems ridiculous but not surprising.

The Novice and Intermediate groups tend to bunch up especially at the begining of a session.

It seemed like once you got by the majority, the track opened up. The only way to avoid that is to jump out in front of them at the start.

Or bump up.

You chose the better option. :dthumb:

Sean 09-15-2009 02:47 PM

Yeah, I was scared to death to bump up. Just started doing trackdays on the 675 and this was my first on "real" tires so I didn't think I'd have the pace...but I did just fine in A. I could carry a lot more cornerspeed than I was used to. I was all excited about bumping LOL

I need to drive a LOT harder into 8 and deeper into 1...and carry more cornerspeed.

("that's what SHE said")

How I handled it since I was never fast enough to ride advanced is to let the idiots first on the track (which they tend to be the first ones to line up) and they tend to be very aggressive with each other and slow themselves down. Let everyone go out and give it about a minute and then proceed out. You usually catch the easy back markers pretty quick, but it gives everyone time to spread out and as they tire themselves out from racing each other, easier to pass when you catch up with a cool head and plenty of gas left in the tank.

This seems like a solid approach.

The only problem with that is it can take a lap or two before you thread your way through the douche bags.

karl_1052 09-15-2009 04:55 PM

I would be in E group

OreoGaborio 09-15-2009 05:02 PM

Save yourself some frustration.... Pit in, give yourself a big gap then come back out.

depends on how small your track is, give them plenty of time to scatter and do a normal warmup lap (if you dont run tire warmers) and you can get in some laps before you catch up. If you are catching them in a lap or two that should be the back markers and you should pass them easy. The real douchebags up front will take longer to catch and if it doesn't, you need to be in advanced.

Yet another reason why I eliminated B group altogether. :dthumb:

So where do you place the mid-packers?

In with the newbies that are slow and nervous or with the fast guys that may be 5-10 seconds faster?

With the newbies - and they have to earn the right to move to the other group.

It's actually working REALLY well. Unless you're approved for Group 2, you don't get to sign up for Group2. It means, they play nice and learn the track THEN move up. We also have 30-minute sessions... with four hours a day and 20-people in 1.8 miles of track "traffic" doesn't happen often.

I think it usually depends on what they're capable of. If they can handle being passed midturn, if they can hold their line while it's happening, if they can just plainly hold their line without a major startle, if they don't continuously overbrake for turns, if they're predictable enough on the track and not taking random lines, they don't wreck? And last - speed. It's just a trackday, not a race. Therefore that's a relative in the equation.

These are all things I see based on the dividing of Elite's 2 groups, but ultimately it's up to managment and the instructors ;)

Sean 09-15-2009 08:00 PM

There was an org that did 2 groups, 30 minute sessions out here for a while. That and they gave you free pizza. Everyone loved them until they ran off with everyone's money for a trackday and disappeared.

It was okay because they never had that many people there and tended to not attract the experts. This org has ~90 people per trackday, if you had two groups it'd be even a bigger fustercluck. And they're the only ones running at this particular track now.

Sean 09-16-2009 10:02 AM

This is what A group looks like there:

elite sportbikes does a pretty good job with group size, sportbiketracktime does a terrible job. Nashville is about the only track I liked to do with them, because not many people like nashville, so it was never a sellout.

private track days are the best, 7 people on a track at a time = awesome.

I'm sorry, but that group looks like a so so C group. I bet that was a weekend, right?

Every Willow or Streets that I ran with Trackdaz had hella fast people in B group. That group running was slow as fuck.

I thought Parhump ran A, B and C all together, no?

Your perception is off. Xtian was running 1:44s all day long out there.

HokieDNA01 10-05-2009 09:54 AM

Ok so is B the intermediate group or Beginner group. I have seen B for Beginner, I for intermediate and A for advanced but you guys seem to be saying the A group is the beginner and C is advanced?

Sean 10-05-2009 10:45 AM

A = advanced
B = int
C = beginner

CrazyKell 10-05-2009 11:00 AM

Seems like a lot of traffic. I'd do the sit and wait approach as well.

It's funny to hear you guys say A,B,C groups etc. Here we call them Beginner, Intermediate, and Hotshoe. :lol:

I don't know times for squat. I look at how fast he is flicking the bike over, hard on acceleration etc. etc. It just looks like he was riding fast, but not hard.
