Good Deal on track bike?
I found an '06 Ninja 650R with two sets of Cheetah bodywork, two sets of sprockets, Race Tech emulators and Traxxion up front, Penske out back, Pilot Ones, Pazzos, Double Bubble, Woodcraft Rearsets, Braided Lines, and a Power Commander for $4,000. Already safety wired.
Waiting for a reply from the seller :tremble: Don't know if I'm hoping it's true or not- that's a BIG dent in my savings if it works out! |
Seems like a solid deal to me.
|
I'm thinking I can sell off the extra race fairings and stuff. Doing a track day a month (if I can manage that many) won't be very hard on parts.
|
You should keep it anyway, if you are gonna do 1 trackday a month, you will need a new set of fairings eventually. Unless you really need the money to buy the bike

DO EET! Sounds like a decent deal, check the bike out thoroughly before buying tho...

F'n A man. F'n A.
|
$3500.
|
He reaced at a couple WERA/CCS events, and did a few track days.

Has the bike been crashed? Is it a salvage title? A frankenstein?
Things to look for! Have you heard back from him yet? |

Everything sounds good up to the point where he doesn't have a title. Fuck. Now I have to do some research.

Better make sure the frame is straight if it's been crashed.
I would think there are better track bikes out there than a 650R in the same price range. Isn't the suspension non-adjustable? I've ridden one and it's a nice street bike (nice and comfy) but it seemed pretty heavy and too upright for track duty. |

Anyone know if AAA can do a VIN search relatively cheaply/easily? Pretty much the only thing stopping me now is the lack of title. Besides my legality questions, it's going to be hard to unload when the time comes. I've heard it's fine to sell a track bike with no title, but I don't know how exactly it works. I don't want to put this on the road. May end up applying for a R/Salvage title. |
Assuming I get all the right answers to my latest email, anyone know where I can find a decent free bill of sale?
|
CA puts them on the DMV website, try your state or the state the bike is in.
|
My humble opinion... You are probably better off with a more popular bike, like a gsxr. You know you are gonna crash it eventually, and there are enough gixxers on the road that parts aren't hard to find or too expensive, I don't know about the 650, but it is something to think about.

Getting more details now. Still seems a bit sketchy, but it's something I can check out. Originally came from a salvage dealer in NH, then the current owner bought it off a guy in Conn. Crashed twice on the track. This place sounds interesting. EX500s for $1500, EX650 for $2900 Crackhead ZX6R for $4500 http://www.argocycles.com/imgcache/c...cde2018d37.jpg http://www.argocycles.com/imgcache/1...ef9d0219da.jpg  |
I think you'd be better off with a different bike.
I'm not that familiar with the 650 but you don't see too many of them on the track....there's a reason. :idk: |
I would stay away from a 650 for track purposes, you will have good corner speed, but you if you think getting passed by straight line queens riding 1000s on a 600 is annoying, wait til you try it on a 650. For the price, I would just go with a wrecked 600. More parts, easier to sell. You will be hard pressed to get rid of a 650r track bike with no title/salvage title.
|
I forgot to mention that if, like others have noted, the suspension can't be adjusted....what the HELL are you going to do with that thing on the track??? Steer clear!

I could spend $3000 getting any bike to where this one is. |

Lack of a title is not uncommon. It could be stolen, or it could have been crashed in a state that would not allow for salvage titles or retitling, its very common for track bikes not have a title or be registered.
You could check on carfax, sometimes they have motorcycles info on there. It does have some good upgrades, but perhaps you could save cash and have a bit more piece of mind if you did pick up a beater gsxr. The good thing about that bike at the track is if you crash, theres usually a few people who have spare parts to donate and get you running again! Get what you want, opinions are like assholes... |
I dont see the appeal of a 650R either, but whatever floats your boat, guy.

I just feel like you're getting swayed by it being a good deal and all. :idk: Maybe I'm wrong. If you want a track bike, figure out what's important to you and find a bike based on what YOU want....not just because you stumbled across what seems like a good deal. |
you can find alot of tracked preeped early SV for less then $3k
|
I'd pass on the SV as a track bike for the same reason as a 650r. They are basically the same bike.
|
i'll disagree w/ you.........its fun to pass liter bikes in the corners......
|
SVs put down some stupid fast lap times at Willow even while being down ~30+hp from the 600s.
|
Svs teach you how to ride vs using HP to get ahead. and yes they are very formidable track bikes when ridden by a good rider.

The 650r is the same bike, why down it for the SV????? If he found a 650r, he wants, he has a 650r already, so he probably should get that over a SV because he already knows the bikes in and out and will have parts..... |

I know some of you (Tigger) could find a deal in the dark, with your hands behind your back, and earplugs, and a clothespin on your nose  So what are you seeing out there? |

lol...let the guy ride what he wants. Who gives a shit?

The '02 636 doesn't have any of the aftermarket parts I want, and it's carbed. Not low enough price for me to get the parts either. The F4i has potential. The 96 honda is too old. The 98 honda is again, too old. And no goodies. '03 Zook is a good deal- for somebody else. '03/'06 600RR wouldn't be bad, but it's a frankenstein. And no suspension work. :lol I know I'm being picky here. This isn't something I need NOW. I know most people know almost nothing about the 650R- but I have pretty extensive knowledge  Everyone says the SV is a great way to start on the track, the Ninja is just as competent. And if I eventually decide to try racing it, the 650 level racing shouldn't be as ridiculously crowded. |

I would LOVE to have another bike identical to the one I have now solely for the track. |

I know riders with all sorts of bikes... including gsxr's, r6's etc... and they thought the were the cat's ass... best thing ever... then they rode something different & were like "holy cow, you mean there's something else that's fun?" Just cuz you think the R6 is the best thing out there doesn't mean it is. I've ridden ALL SORTS of bikes around different race tracks, from 500's to 600's to 1000's... v-twins, I twins, I fours, thumpers etc. CR500 Supermoto to MV Agusta. There's no ONE BIKE that's the best for everyone out there. Although I've never ridden one around the track myself, I know first han that the 650r can be turned into a very capable track/race bike. I race against them regularly in the LW classes at Loudon & am friends with people that race them... It's a little down on power compared to the SV, but not by much. They still handle VERY well and can be incredibly quick in the right hands. Not only that, but they make great LEARNING TOOLS... more-so than a bike that you can twist the throttle on to make up for your mistakes. They wiggle around & flex a little to let you know you're not being smooth without biting you in the ass. It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. |
