Thinking about a new project
Doesn't run.....owner doesn't know why....but might be a great winter project...OR it could be a money pit

Damn cool looking machine though.
|
wow... if the price is right you'd be crazy to pass that up Troy
|
Saweet!
|
good lookin cafe.
|
Is that a CB?
Looks like it. If so, I'd grab it. Parts are plentiful. |
Um....um....buy it.
|
Fucking do it. A cafe racer build is my next project, and the CB is a great platform. If that is a CB, it probably won't take much to get it running- those things were over-engineered tanks. ;)
|
Yeah it's a CB. It looks exactly like mine. Well mine is not quite as awesome.
|
Does the engine spin? With that exhaust, if the previous owner didn't rejet the carbs it might have been running lean. It looks like a well sorted bike so I would think that was taken care of, but the color of those headpipes may indicate otherwise.
I can't tell, but if it is a CB engine I would think parts would be cheap. There are a number of CB750 motors on ebay for $200 or less. The difficult part (bodywork) looks done. Whatever is wrong with it shouldn't take a lot of money, just time. That is kind of the idea for a winter project though. |
It's actually a CB550

Does the engine actually turn for that 3/4 of kick lever movement? I'm not familiar with that bike so this is just my gut feeling, but it sounds like it may have a seized engine. I would still look in to parts and mods (big bore kit?) to see what can be done if the bike is the right price. Buy it with the assumption it has a seized motor. If it doesn't it is a bonus.

Sounds locked up to me. Looks like a 750 swap in the making. ;) |

I played wuth a 77 CB750F a few years ago that the Mid 70s bike have difficulty with intake valves still is it short money the single cams are cool bikes. DO you know if it started as a F or a K Bike? It would tepmpt the hell out of me. I have to go pick up a 74 Cb750 K next weekend (someone is giving it to me) Know any one who is willing to tell my wife I am getting 5th bike?

other then engine being frucked, thats a cool bike.

im pretty sure the problem either has to do with the starter or the transmission. when i try to start it electrically, it just clicks and when i try to kick start it, i get about 3/4 of the way down before the kick start just stops. i know it's not the battery because ive fully charged it That almost makes sense, except for the transmission part. If it was truly seized, you wouldn't be able to kick it at all, let alone 3/4's of the way. If he's able to kick it 3/4's of the way repeatedly, the problem is more likely with the kickstarter itself (broken teeth, fucked up spring). JC |

If it were simply a fubar'd kicker, the electric starter should turn the motor. Of course he may have "fully charged" a worthless battery and totally ruined my theory. |

You're right, he could have surface charge, but no amps to back it up. I could see maybe a 1/4 turn worth of play, but 3/4? Nah. Not buying it. (the theory, not the bike). Troy, for me it's a no go with the 550 motor. Too much weight without enough power. I would be tempted to squeeze a CB750 motor into it, or go the opposite direction, and put a CB350 in there, and save on weight. Decisions, decisions... JC |
You need to get over on SOHC4.net and get some info from peeps that know their shit on these old school mofos.
