Biker Greeting
Why do some bikers greet each other and other's don't when they pass each other ? Do you only greet certain bikes, jap bikes only jap bikes or Harley's only Harley's?
|
I don't greet just a certain type of bike/biker. If they wave I'll wave.
|
I'll wave at any bike and more often than not the cruisers are the ones who don't wave back. When I had my rebel everyone waved no matter the bike.
|
Will you initiate the wave?

I'm sick of waving. I want to get one of those stickum wavey hand suction cup things.
|
Hello Kitty wave.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqykE...eature=related I wave to all. Mopeders seem to give me a strange look. O well. If they don't wave back they either didnt see you, didn't want to wave back, or they are a dick. So with those three things you can either feel sad, heart broken, or so pissed off you whip a bitch and chase that mo fo down. Kick his sorry ass of his chitty bang bang bike. Pop his gas cap, let the fuel flow, and set it ablaze. Then a box truck stops next to you and the back door raises and Metallica stars playing MASTER!!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z-hEyVQDRA |

I wave less and less. I only wave at euro bikes now.
I give most touring bikes the finger. |

I usually give the ADV wave....with black gloves few can tell :idk:
This gets you covered if you pass a chopper and the rider is too scared (AKA thinks he has to look like a baddass and NOT wave) to wave so YOU look like the real badass  It's funny because if you go to a rally or big event (daytona etc) you can TELL who JUST got down there for the first time evah because they're waving...whereas the people who've been there before...or newbies after the first few minutes realize...you'd be perpetually waving the whole time you're there |
Quote:
|
I wave to all bikes...half the time I don't even look at the bike to know what kind it is.
|
Quote:
I don't really care what you ride since I ride all types of bikes. Quote:
|
Honestly, I'm sick of the waving thing.
Yes, I see you. You're on a motorcycle too! OMG! How fabulous! Let's wave like happy assholes! Fuck that. Go away. I was on the BMWOA site just before the rally this year. There was actually a thread about the "proper" distance from the rally site, when you could officially stop waving. I think they settled on ten miles. What, we need a fucking manual now? Assholes. Stop with the goddamn waving already, it's embarrassing. JC |
Glad I stated I "acknowledge" and don't actually wave.
|
Quote:
What the hell, it'll be a nice ride there and I'll get to wave a lot. Really, I wave when I feel like it. Don't care what you're riding. |

I'm going down the freeway the other day, and a couple on a Goldwing are coming the opposite direction. They're all decked out in their stupid-ass Frog Togs, blabbing away at each other with their stupid-ass helmety microphone head set units, headlight modulator blinking like crazy. These people are like 200 feet away, but there they were, waving their chubby little arms off. They looked like the Village People got stuck in a Hefty Bag. WTF is that? Stop it. JC |

Getting tired of the wave myself...
I'm not friends with these people. I don't want to be their friend. If they're broken down, ill still stop. But there are way too many bikes here... |
I wave/nod at all bikes, if I see them in time. There are also times I can't wave, too focused on riding.
I usually don't wave at solo-bikes, cause they rarely wave back. |
I wave to the bikers that arnt scared of some penile shrinkage in the winter.
|
I wave at everone on 2 wheels unless I'm in an area where there's a million bikes (like Americade for example)
|
i wave at all of them, but if i meet a pack of harleys and the first few dont wave back, i usually flip off the rest of them or wave really gay..
|

Quote:
All of my friends seem to own Harleys. That, I think, is one of the reasons I didn't buy one.... <------not one to be a follower They wave at everyone though... no prejudice. My SO won't wave at anyone... 'course, his bike vibrates so much he probably IS waving... |
I'm not a waver. I used to wave. Back when seeing a fellow motorcycler meant something. I remember back when fellow motorcyclists stopped to make sure other stopped motorcyclists weren't in need of help in someway. Back when people loaned tools, helped wrench, or gave aid in someway to a fellow on the side of the road. That time is for the most part, dead. I still stop when I can but damned if anyone has checked on me when I'm stopped roadside. i had a clutch adjuster back out on an EX500 that I was fixing. I looked under the seat and no freaking tool kit. Too much tension on the cable to start the thread by hand. I just needed pliers. I probably saw 10 bikes go by in the 10 or so minutes of me monkeying around to fix it. That's why I don't wave. There's no brotherhood anymore. It's people fitting an image.

I greet all bikers as long as I see them. If I stick the hand out to wave and they don't wave back, the two fingers down quickly turns to one finger up.
|

I stop now no matter WHAT the conditions, where or what I'm driving/riding. I piss my wife off something terrible when I do that, because she's always paranoid about a trap or "bad people" but I stop regardless. One chick (didn't know it was a chick, she was built like Karl) simply needed to unchoke her carb, but the others this year I've stopped for were all waiting on a pick-up or the harley roadside service and just thanked me for stopping |

I see people wearing the brightly colored safety vest and wonder about that too. Does the military require that now ? :idk: I'd hate to have to wear that too. |
Quote:
I thought they also required the vests :idk: I see a boat-load of them being warn when I'm near fayette-nam |
 this thread cracks me up... how fucking hard is it to wave... why is it such a big deal...
I wave at any and all... shit I'll wave to bicycles and motorcycle or bicycle cops. Hell yesterday I had about 10 people wave to me from their yard, the church parking lot, or a car on my way to the single track... |
Ebbs, I see hundreds of bikes a day..
When I lived in the sticks the wave was the coolest thing ever. Now its a distraction. |
a distraction? not sure I buy that... but I can only speak for me... doesn't take away from my riding to raise my left hand... :idk:

Harder than not waving. |
I wave like a special olympic torch boy.
I get it from all kinds of bikes (and none from all kinds of bikes). I noticed lately less and less waves as the number of motorcycles seem to increase. And in Atlanta itself you rarely get a wave because you are surrounded by bikes and scooters anyways. I did have a guy today on a Harley full dresser pull up next to me (and I think split traffic) to say hey. It felt kind of awkward so I ignored him. |
Quote:
I'll wave at most bikes I pass but I don't care too much if I don't get one in return. I could care less. |
I had a harley guy wave to another harley who was about 1/8th of a mile ahead of me... then just stare at me as I went by... caught up to the guy in front of me at a light... looked at him and waved... he just stared...
Damn... must be hard living up to the image... |
I find around here there is no point even raising the hand, 9 out of 10 bikes are Hardleys. I've heard "rice burner POS" so many times in the last year that I just say it for them.

Screw that waving shit!!!
Do I know you? If I do then I'll wave to you. If I don't then why should I wave to you? Or vice versa? |

Not waving is becoming more and more popular around here. Everyone used to wave. I'm over the waving...but I still do it. It's habit.
|
I still wave, and still feel good when I get a wave back. Just sayin' :idk:
|
The safety vest is required for the military, yes.........But personally I think it's a good idea for anyone whose bike and gear are all black. Unless they enjoy being invisible, that is.

shit my Squadron's motorcycle safety rep wears a Joe Rocket Red ballistic mesh... and that passes... they've seem to gone to more MOTORCYLE jackets rather than the safety vests... but I agree I think it's a good idea... hence why I bought this to ride on my black DRZ http://image.motorcyclistonline.com/...front_view.jpg |

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community—a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and the half-helmets—God, they drive me crazy.
You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don't wave at them, either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180-degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two-wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they've got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grampa, and while you're at it, I'm not waving to you. Ducati guys—I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color you want, as long as it's red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys. Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I don't wave. I just keep on going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys. I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two-piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at—those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet–like I'm going to wave back to that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots. To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special? |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSVg3Gg4LmA That's a guy I work with up at the track. He teaches the Lee Parks ARC classes at our events at Loudon NH. Good guy. Not the fastest rider out there, but he gets that thing leaned over pretty good! It's funny the first time you ride behind him.... big huge boat of a motorcycle... then you see his knee come out like an outrigger. He's so tall it sticks way out... then "plink", his pucks are on the ground. |
Quote:
|
Looks like his is moving off the bike quite a bit and allowing it to stay more upright, which is obviously what ya gotta do on a bike that big.
|
Yeah he moves around on it quite a bit.
